Don't stand in their death zones and you'll be fine
Irelia is definitely the stronger of the two by a mile, but akali is actually pretty cutthroat for the akali player, if you have any experience with mechanical skill champs she's dead.
Irelia is more about prediction, akali is basically "Uhh imma walk out of the smoke and then just all in her when it's down"

I play a lot of Akali myself and unless you're playing a counter pick or are just far, far ahead simply walking into auto range as a ranged champion will result in you dying. All champions can be beaten, but that doesn't mean that they are balanced. Both of these champions are overloaded and give up nothing for it.
