LoL seasons from best to worst?

  1. Season 4 - Best balance of burst and sustained damage dealers, no bullshit concepts apart from Yasuo who just outkitted the whole damn league roster, old masteries, old runes, game not being stompy and comebacks being a pretty realistic option. The only problem that i remember was balancing of early game junglersElise Vi LeeSin and feral flare farmersMasterYi Udyr Nocturne . Apart from prenerf freelo champions Khazix Fizz Lucian it was pretty good.

  2. Season 3 - Best balance of all roles. ADCs could carry late game, mid lane could carry the whole match, top lane could carry the whole match, junglers were nice, supports were useful. Overall gameplay was less team reliant and a couple of good players could certainly pull the match in their favour. The overall skill expression was the highest during this season. Baron calls, meta picks, counter picks, macro play took shape in this season. Assassin meta was tiring and kinda overwelming in the end, but it didn't make the game worse.

  3. Season 5 - Best season up until the Juggernaut rework, after that it became one huge hilarious clown fiesta. Fiora rework marked the expiration of date of outdated champions, who just couldn't keep up with the new reworked overloaded juggernauts Skarner Darius Mordekaiser . Bullshit champion releases Ekko . Unkillable tanks, Every ADC not named Sivir Vayne being out of meta was many of the core problems.

  4. Season 2 - League in its young days. Was pretty nice, but bruisers being able to outtank and outdamage every single champion in the game was frustrating. Oh and botlane balance being practically non existant Graves Ezreal Corki just ruled the botlane.

  5. Season 8 - It has it's problems, but many of more innovative approaches entered this game (botlane specifically). New runes allow for some customizable options instead of old cookie cutter builds that we were used with.

  6. Season 1 - It was pretty bad. Ranged roster outdamaged and outkited everything everywhere and everytime. It as league at it's infancy so it was extremely unbalanced, however more simple and accesible.

  7. Season 7 - DIdn't play much during this season, but last i heard it was Riots continuing love letter to ADCs.

  8. Season 6 - Two words: Dynamic queue. Runned the league down into unrepairable state. This was a time when league was finally past it's prime and became another generic cookie cutter call of duty type of game. Skill expression was at it's time on all time low. Whole season could be summed up in: Thunderlords decree, Graves being the best ADC, top lane and Jungler at the same time and tanks pretty much outclassing the whole assassin class.

My personal list:

  1. Season 3.

  2. Season 4.

  3. Season 5.

  4. Season 6.

  5. Season 7.

  6. Season 8.

For me, League has just gone downhill over time.

(I didn't really play during either Season 1 or 2 so I can't include them in my list).

Everyone knows season 8 is the worst, i've never seen so many posts about the unbalance in the game. Never even started posting until recently cause of my same feelings.

S4 and S3, S3 because jungler items weren't locked to junglers so you could buy them on anyone, and the game was healthy with long teamfights, many come backs, and turrets still felt like a safe place in laning phase (and not going down in 1.5 second even with 5 champions focusing them). S4 allowed more various junglers with better jungling items and the jungling axe which allowed you to kill the big mob and his minions at the same time and get many HP and MP back, so jungling was doable for any champion and you could play for fun, trying everything. Zephyr Still existed, Divine sword made me enjoy Garen with 3 crits guaranteed on E XD.

S5 killed turrets and jungler variety. It placed the pro play over everything else for the 1st time.

S6 killed even more of the game with, correct me if I'm wrong, the key masteries like deathfire touch, thunderlord (now electrocute), and some other frustrating elements of gameplay.

I don't remember if s6 or s7 brought up the shield in MHP for stunners, but this was real bullshit. This mastery was completely overwhelming (I remember winning a 1v3 with Poppy with 4 tank items and 2 damage items in TT, it was so easy it was disgusting). Still I loved Nocturne jungle during this season (nearly won a 3v3 with 2 bots on my side against 1 on the ennemy side, I lost 1 fight and they ended but otherwise I would have soloed the game alongside bot programs against Ryze and Galio XD).

S7 strengthened S5+6 problems.

S8 strengthened S6+7 problems and created new ones with the new rune system and the removal of level cap and the free exp (it seems like level ups are way faster than before pre-season) while the level 30 requirement for ranked stood there like it was still useful. While we're at it why not allow ranked for level 1 players, so we can play with players who don't even know what they're supposed to do in the game? There are 140+ champions and players with barely 1 month of playing experience are allowed to go ruin games for people who are trying to climb the ladder in order to play with fellow veterans, not forcedly good players, but at least experienced ones who know what a jungler, a support, a tank, a bruiser, a mage, an assassin and an ADC are, how they work, and who won't go get suicide 24/7 in ranked games. So s8 is by far my WORST playing experience of LOL (I uninstalled the game 3 times in 1 season, never done more than 1 before and never at all before s6 even during s5 when things began to screw up with turrets falling in 3 autos).

4 > 7 > every other season is the same

Madstone Udyr and ragequit-inducing Nunu were the best

I almost got plat 1tricking Jax in season 7

Rengar was the most fun champion in seasons 5, 6, and 3, but still not nearly as fun as those 3^

LOL kassadin, kha, leblanc, thresh, and ori dominated every single game then.

The game was in a similar state to now but just more people all have crazy burst and mobility now. While back then you needed crazy burst/mobility or Burst/utility.

Just now half the roster has that and those who don't can take a rune to give them the mission puzzle piece.

That being said I enjoyed season 3 and this season for the most part.

But best balance...cmon bra.

Started playing somewhere in the later half of season 1, but got really into it during season 2 so here it goes for me: 4. season 3. season 2. season (huge nostalgia from pro scene) 5. season

i stopped playing in s6 and came back for a little during s7, lost interest until preseason 9 so i cant really rank them

Two words: Dynamic queue.

I was actually disappointed when DQ was retired. It was fun playing ranked games with friends instead of having to choose which of your friends you leave behind in favor of just one. I really loved DQ. Was one of the most fun times for me.

Corrections:

  1. Yasuo wasn't released until late Season 4, and he was generally underwhelming as hell, because melee brawlers were prevalent in gameplay and just knocked him on his knees. He sported at best a 46% win rate Season 4.

I could 1v5 in Season 4, so the part about not being stompy is simply untrue.

  1. What I know of Season 3 was generally in Normals, so I can't really comment. I do recall 1v1ing adcs with Nami though. Still kind of can early game but mid - late.... forget about it if they are fed.

  2. Season 5 had no real game breaking new champions. Part of the reason you liked it. Ekko could be performed by any new player, so he was potentially disruptive.... Sated Devourer made melee junglers more oppressive and was more of a problem than Juggernauts any day of the week. It didn't stack forever, but the double on hit effect which is now on Guinsoos got them there quicker and stronger.

  3. Not enough info to really partake.

  4. I think it's pretty balanced if you aren't trying to play champs who have no outs/disengages. It's a sad state for champs who can't disengage though.

  5. Not enough info

  6. I wouldn't call Season 7 an adc season..... it was a Support/New mobility champ season, namely Kayn Camille Rakan . They all forced people to play more move speed runes and less raw stat builds, and at least 2 of them remain popular and are generally banworthy. Once learned, they generally single handedly changed the pacing of games. It was also the season of the Katarina rework that has made it MUCH harder to isolate and shut her down with the almost infinite shunpos she has now.

It also had a brief stint of level 2 jungle Malzahar Drake solos, because his minions respawned themselves.

XinZhao rework was considered broken and generally drove me out of jungle and back into Support.

Warwick also became a mainstay meta jungler as his gameplay shifted from late game dominance to early game monster no one could outrun.

Akali gained everything on her kit which now lets her win low elo games uncontested..... her current self healing and blinking W came from that.

If anything.... Season 7 was anti ADC from the perspective of increasing the viability of assassinations. It still had its crit meta, etc, but it was easy to kill them.

  1. This is where the adc meta came from. Lethality items, removal of Zephyr (mainly a jungler item), added tank busting with Lord Dominik's, added range with Rapid Fire Cannon.

It also added Infernal drakes which made adc a win or lose situation, because a bad adc = no drakes.

If I had to order the seasons based on Riot/Tencent, I'd say:

3/4/7/8/6/5/1/2

If I had to order it based on player behavior.... that's obvious....

3/4/5/6/7/8/2/1
