With all the mid-lane Varus going on, what about mid-lane Sivir?

If you think about it, Sivir could also fit into mid-lane pretty well. Her Q hurts like hell if you land both hits, she can spell-shield (which is REALLY useful against mid-laners), and has a nice utility ultimate. Plus she gets overshadowed by standard ADCs bot-lane such as Graves, since she doesn't have the best scaling with AS or crits, and lacks safety due to her low attack range.

Could mid-lane Sivir work? Maybe we'll see a rise in it once the Inhibitor/Nexus turret nerfs make split-pushers better.

Sivir's poke isn't as good as Varus' due to having to hit twice to do meaningful damage and his ability to make use out of item 3004 make him a better choice in the midlane than varus.

Not to mention his Q is physical damage, while Sivir's is Magic damage. Meaning he can build Brutalizer and LW to boost his poke damage, while Sivir can only build more AD and it won't have any penetration behind it. And it has more range than Sivir's Boomerang, and it moves faster and he can build CDR more effectively, meaning he can spam it more than Sivir. It's just better for burst, poke, and waveclear really.

Note: Sivir has hella waveclear when she uses her W; I was just talking about comparing their Qs.

Sivir can't beat tanks as easily as Varus can, and on top of that, though her ult is very useful, I would consider Varus' to have more utility.

To be fair, most mages aren't supposed to beat tanks anyways, AD casters included (besides Wukong).

I've said it before and I'll say it again

AD Mids used to actually be meta back in the day. Like, waaaay back. Season 1 or Pre-Seasons, so as far as "is it possible", its already been done. I still remember playing Ez Mid religiously, and actually Sivir was one of the most common match ups in mid lane - one of the few great pure skill match ups.

Anyway.. point is, she totally can. Her Q does hurt but its unreliable, since it lowers damage per target hit (making it less effective through a minion wave) and needing to get both hits - but with practice its easier to just nick them at the end of its range, and if you get the sweet spot it'll immediately hit them twice.

The changes to her Ricochet, though, in addition to her Q being situational, makes her damage output just underwhelming overall. Her really short range makes her an unsafe trader, her ricochet damage is pretty weak early game.

The difference, I feel, is her Spell Shield. Being able to absorb one enemy nuke in a trade can be a game-changer sometimes.

Depends on the match up. Against a combo-mage, like LB, absolutely. I actually ended up, somehow, in an odd match up in top lane as Sivir vs LB, and made her rage by blocking her combo almost every time.

For someone like Zed, who can just poke and poke and harass and bait out her shield before going full ham? Nah, not really. That probably has something to do with her popularity as a mid laner anyway, is how useful that shield is based on the metapicks for her lane.

There's also one other thing she's got going for her compared to Varus: movement speed. Varus has NO mobility, while Sivir has her passive and ultimate, letting her either run from trouble, split-push, or help her team position in fights.

Sivir counters Graves. You can spell shield his Q or ult, but I digress.

Varus is good mid lane for the same reasons Ezreal and Kog'Maw are. He can act as a poke champion despite having the traits of an ADC. Additionally, his Q is a lot more reliable than Sivir's poke. If Sivir misses her initial or return hit, she risks going into target-ed spell range to attack. Her spell shield is nice, but most mages/assassins have abilities with cool downs a fraction of the shield.

Unlike Varus or Kog'Maw, Sivir does not have a slow or some kind of CC/mobility to get away from assassins before level 6. A Varus can rain down some arrows and a Kog'Maw can lay down an ooze carpet, but Sivir have no defense if a Talon decides to chase Sivir.

Although technically, anyone can be played in a solo lane. You can try out Sivir in mid lane, and maybe she just might be meta.
