Riot, AP users need a counterpart to Giant's Slayer

Watching all the Mundo's lately, I've noticed that many mages simply don't have a proper means of killing high HP opponents. For instance, a Lux has NO answers at all for dealing with DrMundo , Volibear , TahmKench , etc. No matter how many spells or passive procs she lands, they can never die to her.

Yes, this is also due to Mundo being too strong, but mages in general have a lot of trouble actually hurting Champions with 4k or more health. It's kinda dumb how little they can hope to do against beef-tanks.

The new Giant's Slayer lets ADCs absolutely mutilate high HP targets, but there's no mage counterpart. Is that something we could get, or would that be "toxic"?

Pretty sure mages aren't supposed to be instagibbing tanks.

Then what is a Lux supposed to do, if anything, against Mundo?

Cc him and kite as best she can. If she could delete him there would be no point of playing tanks. I sure don't like tanks, but that doesn't mean mages should be able to easily kill them.

The best way to deal with them as a mage is to go liandries morellonomican boid staff.

You realize Mundo is pretty unkiteable thanks to Burning Agony, right? That and Lux is a bad Liandry user, as Liandry's isn't really meant to be a health shredder; it's designed for continuous damage mages like Rumble, Cassiopeia, etc.

I'm pretty sure 6-12% of current health + 80 AP and 15magic pen is litterally the best way to fight a tank as a mage. I doubt that ludens or something along those lines will actually deal even 1/2 as much damage as this. Plus morello procs on liandries. 6% of 5000 hp is 300 damage. 12% is 600 (I think her passive applies it as single target? Might be wrong).

Regardless, getting that and getting max cdr+ mana regen and whittling away at their team is better than being able to burst their adc but losing because of a tank.

that's kind of the point, burst mages aren't supposed to be beating the class that is itemizing specifically to survive what they excel at. The only exception as far as raw burst goes is Veigar just because he has infinite AP gains

giant's slayer doesn't do anything to high HP targets, either. it caps at a 500 HP difference, meaning there's no penalty for just buying more health. it punishes squishies who have like a single health item, maybe two, much more than it affects tanks after they pass the threshold

Riot has specifically stated that Liandry's was never really an anti-tank weapon; it's simply an item that's good for DoT mages like Rumble, Cassiopeia, etc.

Where the hell has rito stated this?

AP kog buys the hell out of it, how many DOTs does he have? None.

Vlad buys it on occasion, how many fdots does he have? None.

...the point of Tanks is their ability to counter Burst.

What's funny is Deathfire Grasp would have probably been balanced in this meta.

darkdill2 votes

Sure, with some modifications. Maybe if its damage amp/nuke was dependent on your target having higher max HP than you.

And oddly enough, that's a pretty good fix to balancing DFG in previous seasons before it was ultimately removed.
