Most dueling champions have an early power spike. If she's going to hit her spike first try manipulating the minions to push in your favor.

Thanks for solid advice, though this appears to be a QQ thread. Anyway, expanding upon your tips, Fighters in general (instead of ADC's who ramp up over the course of the game), spike. That's their power. After a certain level, they can do X damage, or CC for X long. They all hit spikes. Knowing those spikes is the key to fighting them, or, knowing when to back so that the potency of that spike is wasted, and you return with items that nullify their spike.

what i find annoying is her not even having to build any sort of damage not even triforce to 1v1 the adc and jungler at the same time. her stun is ridiculous. ive never seen something more broken then irelia stun.

Trotongo1 votes

what i don't understand is how she gets to stun even if your hp is lower than hers, baffles me.

legit need to wait for her to regen so that u can even trade with her.

Irelia stun is dependent on % health comparisons; not flat health.

If Irelia had 1000 total health, but was at 500 and you had 100 total health and were at 75 health, equilibrium strike would stun you because 500/1000 = .5 while 75/100 is .75. You have a higher health percentage and therefore will be stunned.

When playing against her, building health is a good stat to pick up to mitigate her true damage; since it doesn't scale with anything except attack speed, the damage she gets (unless she is building damage) tops off when she hits 9 (level where first ability is maxed).

It would also be wise to take a champion that DOESN'T rely on poke for the damage; if you rely on poke, you are more likely to let her trigger stuns (which will help her jungler when they gank as well).

whos going to build health on a riven?

masterdragon4811 votes

Riven vs Irelia is actually a skill matchup, it can go either way.

But in response to the question: you wouldn't. I'm guessing she counter picked you.

Requiemsfire1 votes

Black cleaver's always been a nice item on Riven along with Sterak's gage if you felt yourself a bit squishy ;)

Irelia stun is stupid in the sense that it punishes you for being the aggressor. If there ever was a fuck off spell Irelia has it.

Lee Sin main complaining about Irelia's level 6 damage and CC, the irony is real.

better nerf her... just to be safe.

Anyways im more annoyed by Pantheons level 3, man you get in range of him and its automatic death, W, E, Q, Ignite...

Kuroi861 votes

This is why bruisers are dangerous. Their early game, anywhere between 1-8 is scary. For Panth though, I typically have to have an enemy near half health or lower to ensure a kill. Then Q, W, E, Q, Ignite. 95% of the time this results in a kill. Best way to handle Panth in lane is either bring lots of sustain, or a champ that can safely farm under turret.

Stephenizgod1 votes

I thought i was ok with Darius, but i was very wrong. I tried farming from a safe distance with Q but his Q has longer range. Getting in exp range also brought me into his range (with his naturally higher mov speed it doesnt take long for him to catch up to you) and after 2-3 Q's i was as good as dead 100% of the time lol. Even under turret i was not safe, although im pretty sure i was dealing with someone who was better with Panth then i was with Darius is all. Still it was very unfun lol

Kuroi861 votes

That is classic panth style, poke down with Q, pop a mana pot and at three once you've got them low enough, kill them. With Darius you've got to force trades as early as lvl 2 with your pull and spin. Panth isn't very tanky early on, if you can force trades, you can force him back and make him burn potions.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Ye thats what i did, i have fought Darius vs Panth once before (i won lane pretty easily which is why i didnt know how dangerous he could be), but this guy started Flask and Pots. I really underestimated how much he could heal from that and ended up using all my mana trying to poke him down.

Kuroi861 votes

Oy, Darius is typically a scary match up for Panth. Any of those trades, Darius can typically go all in, if he does then it could be GG open the shop first blood to Darius lol. Flask and pots is a pretty common start on him, one of my preferred starts if I know there could be a lot of poking back and forth and need the sustain. What you want is to try and extend the trade and get full stacks of your passive on him before ending the trade, it'll force him to use up potions. I think Doran's shield and health pots may be enough for you, hopefully lol.

I find it annoying how she can buy a triforce, then build full tank, and still do more damage than an adc.

Pollyanna Wright2 votes

Yeah and I bet Lee's 6 isn't the same either kappa

FyshinaTux2 votes

Because everyone else is so weak that she appears stronger?

FalconPawwwwnch2 votes

Because every other melee champion got deleted from top lane

Are people really complaining about Irelia again? It's top lane, and Irelia is the problem? That's laughable! Darius Vayne MonkeyKing Rengar Nidalee Quinn Kalista and people are complaining about Irelia ?

Wow.

Just, wow.

did u really just say darius, rengar, and kalista top are a problem? kalista GETS SHIT ON by irelia. darius gets shit on by almost everyone. rengar is just retarded top because 1 gank and hes screwed for the whole laning phase. serioussly i dont even need to check ur rank to know ur no where near high elo.

I really am confused about where exactly Irelia's damage and power comes from tho

None of her abilities really do that much damage, and yet they do?

Her Q is a standard weak dash, 100% AD + 20/50/80 etc Basically a GP Q without the Crit, WAY less damage than a Pantheon Q

Her W is pathetically small amounts of true damage At Rank 3 she would need to auto you like 3x for it to equal a single Olaf rank 1 E

Her E is starts strong, but nothing overwhelming 80/130/180 etc Is a good chunk of initial damage and scales pretty well, but like Jax's leap strike does almost the same base damage while ALSO having scaling that he will build

and yet... She is somehow so strong I really cannot pin down where in her kit lies her overwhelming power

EndlessSorcerer2 votes

Her Q applies on-hit effects, like Blade of the Ruined King, Sheen's Spellblade, and her W's true damage.

Her Ultimate has surprisingly high base damage assuming you can hit all of the shots and is great for providing multiple spellblade procs if you space it out a bit.

Her W might be a small amount of true damage, but you can typically get quite a few autoattacks off in it's duration.

Irelia also typically takes 21/9/0 masteries, so you get some damage amplification there.

Assuming she just has Trinity Force, Irelia will begin fights by dashing to and killing a minion near you, AA a couple times, E when you try to run, AA a couple times, and Q to you before her W falls off. So, you are essentially taking damage from about 5 autoattacks, 5 hits from her true damage, 2 spellblade procs, and her E after she has Trinity Force. I can add up pretty quickly, especially at later levels when she has the CDR to use Q and E more often and without counting the additional damage from her ultimate.

I don't particularly think that her kit has overwhelming power, but I find that it has most of the tools needed that you can turn most matchups into a skill-based matchup. It's not that she's overwhelmingly strong, but she's not particularly weak against anything or she has the tools to help her survive most matchups.

Also, a lot of people are taking squishy ranged champions top lane at the moment and Irelia does really well against them, since she can farm with Q and can easily kill squishy champions she can stick to.

Irelia can easily serve as an assassin while building pretty tanky due to how her kit works. My typically build is item 3009 item 3078 item 3110 item 3065 item 3153 item 3143. She can easily kill squishy champions with just a Trinity Force, so I get defenses and CDR immediately after for ability uptime and survivability while diving the enemy. After some basic defenses, I'll typically get Blade of the Ruined King to deal with the tanks and for some extra sticking potential, followed by a final tank item. item 3074 is a good purchase if you want to splitpush or additional burst damage against squishy targets. item 3172 is situational, but a viable option.

Your name is "Maximum LEE SIN" and you're complaining about Irelia?

What the fuck?

Kuroi861 votes

Her kit is such that nerfs won't work. They can curb her power some, but she still remains a ticking time bomb. Truthfully, the only way to really fix her is a rework, not sure how drastic, but I really don't see any other way.

Yea a good irelia can be strong at all points.

Her combo at 6 does not do THAT much, But when she has phage or sheen it does a deceivingly large amount.

And then there's this top viable beech: Vayne

Trinity force. Almost all of her damage comes from Hiten style and sheen procs.

BloodyTompon1 votes

why is irelia so strong?

She goes to the gym 5 times a week.

Requiemsfire1 votes

It's not so much her total burst as it is her stickiness, most irelia's go for the combo where they Q to a near dead minion so they can walk up to you, W, E and then Q to you again when you try to run and generally this will kill squishy champions such as Teemo especially if Irelia took ignite at level 3+. Being near a dead minion means you're basically guaranteed to die since Irelia's Q cooldown resets upon killing a unit. Not that I'm against it being there because I feel like it is the most clever and simply fun mechanic in Irelia's kit and to me it defines Irelia as a whole.

What's made Irelia strong or at least made people complain about her is the changes to Trinity force gave her core item an extra 25% attack speed totally 40% with the trade off of removing Irelia's crit. What this change did was ensure that Irelia will be able to put out more sustained true damage within the time her W is up while completely removing an unreliable 20% crit burst she didn't need.

Now as Irelia if I'm against a squishy champion I would max E and against someone who is aggressive/tanky I would max W first.

Irelia isn't that strong, you're just weak

Just because both champs are the same level doesn't mean its even, champs have different powerspikes at different levels and item completions
