Runes are boring, viable champion pool is small, no counterplay, game sucks @RIOT

Getting close to not caring about the game anymore.

It seems Riot really doesn't give a shit about their players, as long as whatever changes they do generates money.

Other companies exist. Other games are being and will be developed. You are going to pay for this in the market place, when your customers leave for something better. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but eventually.

But by then how many people will have left? Playerbase continues to drop and we have to wait till November to hope anything gets better?

They all ready had a lot of players leave. League isnt even a big game on twitch anymore.

Yeah, consistently in the top 3 games on twitch yet "not a big game on twitch anymore"

Numbers on twitch are sad. Playerbase is sad. The fact that riot starts putting out league ads and starting to care about new player experience should tell people something. Riot NEVER does anything unless they absolutely have to.

Because he's still sticking out to the faintest inch of hope that soon enough, Riot may eventually get closer to a fix and he'll be able to enjoy the game again.

Certain elements that work will never change. That's why people will keep playing. To a certain extent.

You can hope the game will get better while NOT playing and following along. The fact he DOES still play religiously says something imo.

at the same time, it could also mean that the alternatives just aren't good enough

dota: horrible learning curve and terrible interface (seriously, try scrolling individually through 100 champions in a line, that's Dota if you don't know exactly what champion you are going to use and then you have to do that in 30 seconds)

blacklight retribution: not a moba, declining player count

command and conquer: all of the current players do not speak english except for that rare occasion you meet ONE player that does...

starcract: almost the above but only SLIGHTLY more popular

DDO: declining player count (which was one of the hit games before league), gear restricted for higher levels, pay wall or 2 hours of endless grinding for 1/32nd of the requirements of a content

WoW: huge download, level 20 wall for free players, very generic appearance (though I appreciate this if it reduces the graphics requirement)

unnamed MMORPGs : games that are so unknown that they hide behind pay-for content

runescape: I played this for only a few hours because it was nothing but an endless grind of get X to beat Y

MOBA games: can't comment on them because I would be playing league but can't due to external problems including being on a budget PC

A lot of those games are pretty strange examples. But even then. Trust me there are plenty of other games or online games for people to enjoy. If league is your ONLY solace there is a much bigger problem going on.

How is someone who doesn't play a decent amount supposed to have any idea on the current state of the game?

I finally got to where I was comfortable with a role in bot lane and felt that I could possibly begin to climb with some extra work. In the beginning of the season I had climbed to gold 3 and was happy with that considering I spent the beginning of the previous two seasons in bronze. But here I am after all these changes, sitting in Silver 5. Trying to find a champ that feels natural to me hasnt been easy. I really wish that Riot would change things back to how they were.

Janakin8 votes

I'm just waiting for some massive changes (like a new gameplay design team) or a new, interesting MOBA game to be released. Until then this game is garbage for me.

There are legit a set of runes that are counted as 'Good' right now (Conqueror, Fleet Footwork, Press The Attack, Aery, Comet, Electrocute, and Grasp) Rarely ever do I see someone running Phase Rush unless they're playing Aurelion Sol or Xin Zhao, Lethal Tempo is basically pointless because if aren't dealing damage, whats the point of having attack speed, that is unless you don't have a item 3153.

Guardian is a joke of a rune, a shitty Yasuo passive that requires you to be literally on top of your support for it to be useful, Aftershock isn't getting too much action either with the current meta having so much damage in it, that the extra armor and MR is basically pointless (Rest in piece, Iron Skin).

Dark Harvest and Hail of Blades are just weird to me, Dark Harvest literally makes you a mini Nasus, and I rarely ever see it ran unless it's on a Kha'Zix (Out of meta) or Rengar (Also out of meta), Hail of Blades is really stupid, it only gives you bonus attack speed, FOR 3 AUTOS, only against champions. Its legit a watered down Lethal Tempo, it has no point of being there, at all.

Yeah I know I'll get hit with down vote for expressing myself, but fuck it, sometimes you gotta let it out.

P.S.: Triumph is the best rune in the game, if you're running Precision and you don't take this rune, you're out of your mind unless you're taking Presence Of Mind, in which case I hope you're playing Lux or Zed, because those ults are based around killing something.

Giga Baboon4 votes

Don't you like seeing Zoe and Leblanc every game bro. Yo they play yasuo and vlad bot now, so clearly we in the most diverse meta ever. Not like these champions are played in every other lane as well.

The game is already rolling down hill fast in NA and EU

Velasan3 votes

Except Riot barely makes you pay for anything unless you just don't want to take the time to grind it... they even give away skins which is one of their only sources of actual income.

Weird that people keep saying how all the changes are for the sake of going after players money. In what way? In fact old runes did that better than the new ones. They give you pre set pages right up front.

Prestige Eve3 votes

The rune changes weren't out of greed, but they should have made rune pages free after that. The whole loot and BE system was a massive nerf to player income, especially old players who got screwed over when the rune to BE conversion happened. The crate based loot system is just a copy cat of Blizzard's cash cow system in Overwatch, nothing more. All it does is abuse gambling addictions and force people to play with RNG until they crack and buy what they need.

Now if we're talking about rune balancing, the new runes did nothing but break the game since their inception. It didn't give players more options, it gave us less. The rune system right now is just 'choose what kind of free damage you want'. The old system could have easily just been made free and had their stats edited or given addition effects to balance them out. What happened to letting players have 100% control over their play styles? Why can't someone go in with full AD runes darius and play high risk, high reward at lv1 to 6? What happened to letting someone rock full MR runes and just soaking stuff up in mid lane? We have way less play-style options than we did before, and we didn't even sacrifice that for a more balanced system.

All the changes are there to promote flashy LCS plays and this has even been admitted by pro's and riot has also accepted that they wanted players to be more active. Not that this is bad in itself and i would be glad if riot was to earn a fortune through LCS, but at what cost?

We players are not leaving this game because of Riot is earning money, but they simply have forced us to dislike this game. Btw a free to play game earns its money by attracting as many players as possible. Being a free to play is no excuse for the game to suck, if anything it'll just lose some of its playerbase that way. Whatever riot cares or not is up to them.

Failog1 votes

Mokiller51 votes

just letting you know league is free 2 play

Failog1 votes

Its not free to play. It costs YOUR TIME. Also, its potentially free to play. Many players spend money to get the champs they need to be able to play ranked once they make a new account. The fact that free to play games make more money than P2P games means that the customers, as a whole are spending MORE money. It aint free.

I didn't like the old runes.

one reason. It felt like I was restricted to what I can Play from what runes I owned. Specially with only 3 rune pages and only 2 filled.

I hated being Jungle because the only runes I had were AP Midlaner, and Supp tank.

Well at least I returned to my old love - Counter Strike 1.6

No changes for 20 fucking years, still relatively high number of players, still fun and interactive. They didn't change shit every 15 days to make it "refreshing" , yet it still is refreshing and fun and rewarding. Funny and ironic at the same time. League's refreshing changes are killing it, they were killing it slowly but lately they have been murdering league at a steady pace. Just keep it up RIOT and in 3 years when you file for bankruptcy I will sit here and laugh because, while you gave me many many hours of fun and joy, YOU fucked up the game for no reason at all. You reap what you sow.

Runes are boring: Seems more interesting to ahve actual effects as just getting stats from old runes, boy that was exciting: Grinding hours for ip to get a quintessence of 3 armor.

Failog1 votes

I don't like all champions being able to have the SAME effects. I would rather a rune system that lets you pull your champs in different directions, instead of everyone being able to summon a comet for some reason.

Häxel1 votes

you already have items to pull your champs in diffrent directions. But how is it cool that every mage/champ can take and use a zhonyas hourglass for some reasonbut not cool that every mage/champ can take a comet?

Farthrmore the cool thing about runes is that unlike items youa re not bounded to stats. mostly. In a perfect world maybe, cause the paths still ahve their stats and mages fear precision cause it gives attackspeed and tankjunglers take precision and fleet footwork for this case even if the keystones suck for this. But this could be solved by maybe seperating completly the path boni from the paths. And then a runesystem would remain that unike items is not bounded to stats. At items you can't just take a zhonyas on most adcs or a maw on mages. qss on non ad champs also sucks. But on runes i can decide if i want klepto or graps gp, press the attack or comet mf, aery or guardian taric, or jsut take some crazy inspiration runes. you have most times to get at elast the same 2-4 items every game on most champions but it is easier to change up runes as to change up items. And well, old runes were also mostly all time the same (adc/jungle runes) with maybe 1/3 changed if you had enough rune pages (taking mr instead of armor runes top vs a mage, wow how cool).

Its very sad cuz this is one of my favorite games. I have a ps4 and literally i havent touched it in over 6 months, cuz i have been too busy grinding on league. But now its starting to get boring...playing my favorite champs suck cuz they just get super kited, enemy scales infinite times better than me and my champ still gets nerfed, or i get bursted down from 100-0 without a chance to make an impact or come back.

Constantly used to say i will play league until something better comes along, havent really found it but i might leave it anyway cuz its not fun anymore.

MalrothDragonia1 votes

I would be curious what your definition of 'small' is in terms of viable champions. I've seen some of the most diverse team comps since I started playing in this meta, and it's insane. Like, list me every champ you think is viable, and then tell me that it's 'small'. I'll fill in the blanks I'm sure you'll leave.

Failog1 votes

This isnt a fair question. In the hands of a skilled main ANY champ can be viable, but for most players that may never be true. For example, in the last...100 games, (not on this account) I haven't seen champs like Zac Cassiopeia once. NOT ONCE.

MalrothDragonia1 votes

you named 2 out of 140+ champs that you're not seeing. That doesn't really make your case. The fact that you say a skilled main makes any champ viable PROVES MY POINT that the state of champion balance is great.

For 'most players' part of this game, whether that's what you want or not, is improving over time by jamming more games, and learning new ways to win, new strategies, new champs.

You want to see more Zac and Cass? Learn Zac and Cass, I literally played against a good Zac yesterday and I played 3 games for the day. The fact is the playrates of many champions are going up, I can't remember the last time I've seen a comp that shared more than 1 or 2 champs from previous, and even that is rare, and my point stands.

Failog1 votes

Okay but I haven't seen zac or cass in the last 100 or more games. So my experience seems to be very different from yours. I have seenZed Ahri Yasuo MonkeyKing DrMundo Brand Soraka almost every other match at least

MalrothDragonia1 votes

that's anecdotal and not necessarily representative of the state of diversity in League, which is my point, which you have yet to refute. Also Brand and Yas are banned nearly every game I play, maybe start banning some of those.

Failog1 votes

So Brand and Yas are banned nearly every game? Awesome, it must suck to be a Brand or Yas main and never be able to play your champion because Riot leaves them in too good of a state.

Everyone loses when some champions are too strong.

MalrothDragonia1 votes

and yet even with their high ban rate, I still see them. You're also changing the subject, but cool. Either you just want to be angry, or you're trolling, but either way man, champ diversity is at it's height, and it's great. I just played heimer support and won last night, was crazy!
