People complaining about auto-filled supports

But if not enough people want to play support at all, what's there to complain about? It is what it is. It's like complaining that someone else won't wash the dishes while you haven't washed the dishes in a month.

I think where the anger from people comes in is selecting the two desired roles, but then being forced into one not selected. It's reasonable for them to be angry.

I played back when it was pick order and that always sucked but it made since if you were last pick more often than not you supported. But Riot, should not implement a system to select the role you want and then force you into a role not selected. I see both sides of the coin. I lean more with the ones angry that they didn't get selected role. Because now it's a case of why did I even pick the role I want?

And if it's to prevent multiple people wanting the same role together, the system fails in that regard because I've seen countless games that have had 4 people all wanting to be mid, or jungle, or adc, or what have you.

System would be more sturdy if there was a more even distribution of support players in regards to everyone else. There isn't, so it isn't. You can't blame anyone for that. Either change something about the role so it appeals to more people or just eat shit.

I say it that way only because it is that way.

Or....do what many have put forth already. Let the queue times be longer. Many have said they do not mind at all waiting longer. While their isn't the same number of supports as other lanes, there are still a good bit. I say let the queue times be longer for the sake of better games with people. Or just eliminate the ability to select roles all together and go back to the pick order we had before.

Hahahahyena3 votes

pick order was the most stable imo. queue times were moderate and everyone knew their place in the game.

chipndip11 votes

"Give me mid or I'm going Garen support with smite and clarity" sure was stable, huh?

Hahahahyena1 votes

i never said it was stable, i said it was most stable

chipndip11 votes

I'll let you know when having 3 support mains in the same game is "stable" by any means.

I'd prefer queue times being 2-5minutes and having to play support once every 5-10 games. Then queue times being 7-10mins

nice table5 votes

id rather not go back to 40+ minute queues thank you very much.

Then pick support.

nice table2 votes

yeah let me just pick up that role that you need to avoid like fire so you can get your shit served to you on a silver platter

Borkahn1 votes

Not sure how you get 40+ minute queue times. My longest was 10 minutes, averaged at 5. But yes you should pick support if you don't want to wait too long. I gave a simple solution that would make games have less flaming. What you seem to have forgotten is forcing someone into a role they don't want will more likely than not make them play worse. And when someone does bad, flame on. And that will lose a game. So you tell me. Wait 2-3 minutes for a chance at a game that you are more likely to lose.....or wait 5 minutes where someone is in that role who wanted it.

nice table1 votes

actually from what i have seen most people that get autofilled don't actually do bad at all, unless its one of the "gg wp got autofilled into support so ima pick full ad anivia".

also even if people were god awful at support when they get auto filled into it enough they will become decent.

Here's the real question though:

How long do you want to wait before the system is forced to autofill you?

Would you rather wait 30 minutes before discovering that the system has to autofill you or wait five minutes before discovering the system has to autofill you?

The answer is that players don't want to wait 30 minutes just to find out the system has to autofill them. That's why long queue times don't make sense.

You might think, "But I'm willing to wait longer than other players are willing to wait as long as I get my role." But the reality is that other players shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes to get their preferred role just because some players like you are willing to wait even longer than that to get it. That isn't a fair and reasonable system for general ranked play. It works for things like Teambuilder where all the players who feel that way can go and sit around for as long as they want in a casual queue, but it's a horrible idea for general consumption.

Using OP analogy, you're basically saying 'lets just wait longer and hope someone else does the dishes' Eventually, someone just has to man up and fucking do the dishes. Queue times is only part of the problem, and making queue times longer still doesn't fix the issue that support is still an underplayed role. Doesn't matter how long you wait, there are STILL GOING TO BE LESS SUPPORTS in queue. If you wait 2 extra minutes, well then there's 4 more mid/top/adc/junglers queuing up without a support queuing. The 'dishes' just keep piling up and up till the whole queue system fails.

You guys complaining about 'why can't we just have slightly longer queues' don't get basic math. If 5/6 people don't want to play support, well then, someone is eventually just going to have to do something they don't want.

Borkahn1 votes

You do realize that it worked well before. Queue times were like maybe 5 minutes for me. And others I played with averaged around the same. Yes I get basic math. And support is actually played alot more in recent weeks than in the past. For some reason people love the new items and want in. Now try to keep cussing out of your posts because it loses it's intellectual integrity. And as for your analogy, it's a very poor one.

Didn't work for everyone before. I once had a 32minute queue, in a normal game, with mid-silver mmr.

Also support secondary+fill was broken as fuck. (Yes, I'm going to continue cursing. I'm not cursing at anyone, just using curse words to make a point, so shoot me, or go play an E rated game.) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CnOT5giWcAEYX7z.jpg

Before, if you put support or fill as anything you got support nearly every single time. Now, if say you want to be a mid/support main, you actually have a chance of doing that.

People are ok with putting support or fill as one of their roles now because it's not dooming them to be support 9/10 games even when their main role is not support. System was mid-crash before, it's just on a massive scale so average player wouldn't even notice till it completely broke down. But it was breaking. In the form of discouraging people to play support, and mmr integrity collapsing.

It's more about how it autofills you after 30 seconds in queue. I once got sup and my top said "Can I support? I got autofilled"

Phyuq Yiu2 votes

I main supp and I'll gladly top if top asks but when jungle asks if he can supp, then i know my team is fucked

The Deckowner1 votes

the system is quite fucked up, as a support main I experience this a lot.

xelaker2 votes

it's funny how much people detest support, but everybody likes to give the supp bs, like really? someone literally has to play the role every game, and (most often) eat damage or be a heal bot while other people get flashy whoo kills

and no, playing an ap carry at bot isn't support, Velkoz 3/2/0 with no wards isn't support....

I'm a tolerant person, I detest both support and ADC.

If 20% of the playerbase chooses support in some fashion, then why's there a problem now? We wouldn't even need autofill because the game wouldn't need to funnel anyone that even gives so much as a "maybe" to supporting into the role just to start a match.

Maybe Riot prettied up the numbers a bit, but from season 6's sup/fill debacle and this season's autofill, I ain't buying that support's healthily populated. Otherwise a good deal of history would be reading differently.

Except people got auto-shoved into support whenever there was the slightest inclination that the system could put someone there because there was a support shortage to begin with. If there wasn't, we wouldn't have auto-fill right now because one could pick support or fill secondary and not play support almost all the time.

During last season, someone went through the effort of picking fill for a shit ton of games. He played 76% of those games as support. 76%. If there's not a support shortage, it'd be 20% in an ideal world and even 40% - 50% in a more realistic one. This is 76% though. What makes you believe the numbers changed THAT hard without auto-fill's influence?

The lack of players for the support position was the bigggggggggggggggggest problem with Season 6 by far! If more players are putting support as primary or secondary, then it shows that autofill is working.

ADC main here. The Problem is that most of Auofilled Supports cant play that Role. I rather wait 1h then getting a support that got autofilled and feeds. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

No you wouldn't...and if you would, watch your jungler feed after that one hour.

I got autofilled supp so I picked Karma who is free. I went 7/5/25, now I know what people mean when they say carrying from the support role.

Troll for Trump1 votes

It's more like "buy two, get one free", but the store pulls a fast one and makes it "buy three, get one free"

Supports just need a bit more love and I feel that the role will start to become more popular. It's all a matter of feeling powerful. Slowly, over the years, I've watch support itemization get more specialized and powerful as Riot works to update the support role. They have come a long way from being 20 ward holding vision dump bags. I suspect Riot will continue to improve support itemization until it reaches a point where supports FEEL impactful to both support player and their teammates and not just having an impact.

The Deckowner1 votes

As a support you rely on your team to be competent so your contribution can be effective.

For example, you lay out vision as the support, but if your team has no map awareness, those vision you put down are basically wasted. After awhile of playing support it creates a huge amount of frustration because you will feel like you simply don't impact the outcome of the game as much.

Also laning in a duo lane can cause a ton of toxicity and frustration, especially when you queue as support solo.

BTW the autofill/role system is comoletely retarded, it randomly puts support/fill players to non-support role then forces someone to autofill to support.

Dolasaur1 votes

I hate autofilled supports. I get to lane, ready to have a nice exciting bot lane battle, and then they'll just sit under tower on Janna and not even cast E. Or they'll go hyper aggressive and tower dive at level 2 and give me kills. Or they'll complain in /all for 5 minutes about how they hate support, and my ADC kills them while they're typing.

I sort of wish Riot would match auto-fill supports against other auto-fill supports just so I wouldn't have to deal with them...
