Can we get an item that provides damage reduction while under the effects of unmitigateable cc?

It feels really bad to play into a team comp with lots of displacements and knockups, and with Thresh being popular, Cho Gath being strong, and now Ornn being released, this feeling is only becoming more dominant.

Since non-mitigatable cc is (by definition) unable to be mitigated, can we do Tenacity-dependent champions a favor and give them something to reduce the effectiveness of being locked by displacements and knockups?

EDIT: This would be a full-tank item to avoid being abused by squishy damage-reliant carries. This could also potentially provide health regen over 2-3 seconds equal to % of damage taken instead of damage reduction so that you have to be tanky to survive the cc and gain the item's benefits.

I like this idea.

Would have to a pure tank item tho so marksmen wouldn't break it.

Yep. Could additionally provide health regen over 2-3 seconds equal to % of damage taken instead of damage reduction, so that you have to be tanky enough to survive the cc on your own. If a squishy tried to pick it up, they'd still be blown up because they wouldn't survive long enough to gain that health back.

Yea but please don't give it AD or our adc overlords will abuse it.

It'd be great if it was a stoneplate-like item, with both armor/MR and some decent damage reduction passive/active.

So we should reward people who get CCed with DR?

SzGamer2271 votes

If you really want to use the word "reward". It's no different than Tenacity rewarding people who get cc'd with reduced cc, or Sterak's rewarding people who take damage with a shield.

Yes actually because you're effectively making them harder to kill.

Tenacity isn't a reward. It's more to help you (tenacity doesn't do anything unless you're under CC. It gives nothing else) fight against CC. Granting DR is giving people extra survivability when locking them down to kill them.

It shouldn't be harder to kill everyone when locking them down. You lock them down to make them easier to kill.

This would be a beneficial ability on a champion like a juggernaut or something. But only as a kit ability, not an item that is easily accessible by everyone.

How many knock ups are even point and click? Blitz E? You can dodge almost every knock up if not every knock up because that is the counterplay to knock ups. Not getting knocked up

Honestly the only reason tenacity used to be good or more prevalent was because this game was a lot more point and click than it used to be. Pretty sure Blitzcrank's original Q wasn't a skill shot.

Every defensive item in the game boils down to "I am harder to kill when someone tries to kill me".

You can't dodge knock-ups or displacements if you are under the effect of a stun, slow, or another displacement. Singular cc isn't a frustrating problem. Chain cc is.

Hence why you're supposed to dodge CC.

There's a reason point and click CC is slowing dying.

So that Skirmishers have zero counterplay? Just my Speculation I guess

Take that salt...well I was going to say somewhere else but gameplay is where you take salt.

Eh. An item that allowed you to reduce/remove CC would be better.

Imagine an item that builds out of Quicksilver Sash and shares a CD with it and Mercurial Scimitar (ADCs won't want it, then).

Activate it - become Unstoppable for 1.5 seconds. Requires a certain amount of maximum Health to activate, similar to Warmogs.

Stats include Health and MR. Maybe AD if you make it build out of item 3052.
