5v5 as Support: "Gamble on good allies or Play Mages."

As support, mages are the only things that carry. Everything else depends on your allies playing well and if they troll or play badly, your impact is irrelevant. If your other lanes aren't hardcore stomping and smart enough to leave their lanes once in a blue moon, you're literally stuck for the remaining 10+ minutes especially if they don't ff at 15. I absolutely hate that support has come down to "play a mage or gamble on a good team."

Thats why I just play 3v3. If its good, its good... And if it's bad, the game will close out in 5 minutes if ur team isnt smart enough to ff.

I agree with you, at least in the ELO I am in. My scores and warding are fine for the most part (I think I need to buy control wards more often) but as a support main in mid-high silver I rely way too much on teammates to win the game. I constantly get teammates who have less than 10 ward score at 20 minutes into the game and when the opposing team usually has 2 or 3 duskblades it can be hard to keep vision alone.

One of the biggest problems and frustrations for me is the inability to push lanes as a support. Now that banner is gone, I can't go to a side lane and push after my team wins a teamfight and they either decide to chase the straggler all the way to the fountain or just recall for no reason. It is extremely awkward to clear lanes as a support without banner, so you need your teammates to push to get objectives and pressure.

It is not uncommon for me to have a perfect KDA , more than 50% KP and still lose the game.

I'm a support main who was placed mid silver last season but B1 this season. I literally can't play support, because good bot lane players don't exist in low elo. I can't even properly babysit, because my carry will always find a way to get caught out and die

I’ve seen people carry with soraka. The issue is that YOU aren’t as good as the master soraka who won bot and then won the game despite me snowballing off mid

To be honest as a Sona one trick I haven't really found any major trouble with not having a competent botlaner.

Like sure sometimes I'll have the rogue feeder like the Ashe in one of my recent games, but honestly 8 or 9 times out of 10 they're a capable player in their own right.

And no, I'm not an AP Sona player either, so I dont even have that fallback.

It doesn't matter if you go AP Sona. Athenes, Ardent, will still pack a punch and you're spamming Q in lane anyways. In other words, she plays like a mage. So you're not having issues because you're playing the meta.

My problem is that mages are the only things that carry bad players down there. If you're not a poke mage, you're basically taking a gamble.

The only exception I can think of is rakan. But he's basically an assn.

As a long time supp main I'm not here to agree or disagree but there are factors to the lane.

Yes mages are being played in the botlane..I've suffered Malz..Brand Annie YOU NAME IT, I've seen it and had to deal with it.

So maybe I can maybe give some tips/tricks.

Brand is being picked alot ( I tend to ban him cus I hate the poke+free ignite) Sona Roka and Nami help keeping your adc alive. Suss=Poke=Longer in lane.

I cannot stress this enough.. READ YOUR ENEMY LANERS. What I mean by this is read their actions, if they're going hard af on you in early lvls use that to your advantage! This means their supp will be blowing mana and possibly a few sums at lvl 3, Com this with your jungler. If they're agro af play more safe, and look for a opening to make a play. Most of the time a agro mage supp like Brand is all kill hungry and will separate from their adc JUST to try and land some spicy kills. With this being said, if that player/players are in that mindset you can use it against them. Coordinate with your jungler. EX " Hey so ___ flashed WEQ, adc was farming we can Iso him and pick up a kill bot". Now if you jgler is braindead you can try to coordinate with your adc or mid laner as well.

Synergy is important in the botlane as supp players you should know this, and if you can see the Ops lane has zero use that!

If you are recalling please take this time to look at other lanes and try to read what the enemy team plays like, so you can use this later on.

Now for the main complaint "Mage or gamble" do you have to play a mage in the botlane to win? Nope..I like people with hard CC..Like Leona Hard AP team build MR Heavy AD..Build Armor. And Just in case someone asks I take Coin over relic cus I cant depend on adcs letting me hit that spicy minion for my supp item.

I also adjust my play style to what the enemy team has picked...FOR INSTANCE- I pick Roka..I see a Zed Garen Jinx Brand Uydr. I swap my runes to tank and play Roka tank vs AP. Get my Ardent then full Warmog tank cus My Hp/Regen=More juicy team heals= I stay alive longer. Hell I even play Karma as a tank..nothing more fun then running up in their face taking all the skill shots and still locking them down and getting out with 40 hp and my team picks up a double kill.

IT MAY NOT BE META but it works. And play what you feel comfortable with cus your knowledge of a champ will always help you over someone who got auto filled and is picking the most "OP" shite atm.

AND sometimes..no matter how hard we try as a support and how smart we are...We CANNOT help stupid. Just keep that in mind <3
