Is it just me or does tham khench auto targets allies ?

Just played a fat fish game, was gonna eat a tasty renekton to secure the kill * cough cough * somehow ended up eating our jungle that was in-front of j4. Given jungler was low but that brings up my question.. does it auto target low hp allies ? I clearly targeted renekton before he died and still ate my jg... this can ruin a lot of team play potential if it did happened on it's own...
