I'm looking for a mid with the following characteristics:
So far, I'm considering TF, Ekko and Anivia. I tried Ziggs too quite a lot but he fails too much in certain matchups (like Kass again), doesn't scale quite that well and seems too unreliable.

QuantumPanther1 votesI'm not high-elo (obviously) but is Ahri not a highly contested pick? Between her mobility, her pick potential, and her wave-clear, she seems pretty strong. I'd imagine that if you pair her with a strong front line and a strong ADC, she's a great and versatile pick...?
Ichi Ni San1 voteshonestly, Vel'Koz is the most reliable main in the game right now. he hasn't been touched balance wise since the patch after 2016 midseason and does sooo much damage, even dying solo to your laner isn't enough to keep you from carrying your team with cc and aoe nukes/wave-clear. if you can work on last-hitting with q in the practice tool and figuring out your max range of influence then you will start winning in no time
DrCyanide1 votesXerath still has very few bad matchups. Yes, he's weaker against the anti-mage assassin, but what mage isn't? I'd give him a shot and see how it goes.

nm10101 votesLast time I played Ziggs you could literally farm perfectly from FoW with 0 interaction with the opposing laner. Even Kassadin has trouble dealing with that kind of range + waveclear combo.

you need ludens to completely clear back wave and if you're good at her you don't have too many bad matchups. even though talon yas and fizz are considered her hardest counters once you get good enough to land q on them whenever they try to go in you only really have a bad matchup against ahri and maybe zed if you cant bully him out early

Everything else listed is either too weak against mobility/tanks or has to get too close to their opponent (i.e. a fed ADC).
