melee vs that champ has to be by far the most one sided thing in the game, she is balanced longs she does not hit her E if she does one of these things happens.... you auto die get half hp or loss a bunch of farm in lane and still take huge damage, would not be as stupid if the E took some effort to hit.

Seriously, keep moving and she won't be able to beat you. All her damage is in the tentacles, which show you where they're going to hit before they do, so you can probably escape.

There are several picks that give me trouble, and several that stomp me in lane, I can honestly say the reason I snowball and have over a 60% win ratio is because people do not think ahead.
Taking thunderlords ignite and going all in on Illaoi is your own fault.
Counterplay is all over, If she lands an E on you, pre 6 just punish it. Post 6 minimize damage and run away, dodge then engage.
If she ults without E, go all in.
Cho'gath and Jax both do extremely well against Illaoi.
Sometimes kennen, but it places your team in a tight spot because your jungle is forced into a tank to cover.
Her damage is pretty easy to dodge though...

I heard right-clicking to the side of a skillshot is possible, believe it or not. And, wait, hear this out. It's amazing, there's this thing called Grievous Wounds, it reduces healing. Oh right, want to know another cool fact? She's a melee juggernaut with no mobility, and is thus extremely vulnerable to kiting, as are her tentacles which can easily be killed from range. Want to know something else neat? Try not fighting her inside her ult. Wow, incredible, yeah, I know. Ah, almost forgot. Did you know? CC does exist in this game and it completely ruins her.
She will mostly attempt her E in range of a tentacle so that she can chunk it down quickly. If you prepare yourself to dodge her hook while she is near a tentacle you can avoid the hook to start with. Otherwise, clear her tentacles to deny her the opportunity. If she hooks you without tentacles nearby you can easily pressure her off of your clone.

So why couldn't you buy tier 1 boots and start dodging? Her E still has her counterplay as long as you stop thinking you have to build the same buildpath every single game.... Also it IS possible to bait it out.
I agree, her tentacles are the same to dodge at melee or range, but her E is pretty dumb if you're a melee.
Illaoi is literally countered by just walking away from her when she presses R. It's like Singed back in S4 only worse.
There's plenty of counterplay
q - dodge, simple, and relatively easy w - dodge the passive tentacles and the actual spell itself wont do much e - dodge, or failing that, attack illaoi directly to avoid getting vesseled r - walk away, wait for it to wear off.
Lots of melees can actually beat her fairly easily, but the ones who can't really can't
She could use minor touches to make laning against her more fair Particularly her Q hitbox should be decreased or the delay increased, because without boots its just not dodgeable There also needs to be a more effective way to contest her E, because for an immobile melee trying to contest it currently is just you eating free damage
I say this stuff as someone who has played Illaoi and finds her very fun, and as someone who mains characters who normally beat her. I'm just looking out for the poor sap who still plays Garen and the like.
So long as a champion like Darius exists I will never complain about the person with no CC and waits for you to come to her.

Illoai doesn't even make it in any of my games. I instaban that cancerous champ every single time. Dude its not only melees, playing kennen against her in a fucking nightmare. I'm certainly not new to Kennen either (900k+ mastery points) OTP him for a full 3 years. Illoai doesn't needs nerfs... she needs to be removed from the game completely, and the designer needs to be punched in the dick.
considering she can have her abilities dodged and walked away from, I think saying there's no counterplay is a stretch
I don't find her OP. Go something like Trundle and do hentai on her all time or go Nasus and stack on her tentacles :)

I'd imagine everyone here is much better at dodging skillshots than the 29% win rate Bronze Illaoi Main. I also would imagine the average person could play Illaoi and absolutely crush that guy with his own champ. Just because you're terrible with the champion you play doesn't mean the champion isn't toxic or overpowered in the hands of the average player.

I have one simple tip for you when fighting Illaoi, no matter if you are melee or ranged. Wanna hear it? Here you go: never stop moving. Never. Her main damage goes from her tentacles, whiches delay is long enough to juke them. Kite between every auto attack, don't go into extended trades if you know you can't with them. Like seriously, she has shitloads of counterplay, just you need some skill to utilize it.
