The rework marathon
(Pending edits for clarity, etc) (If you see these messages, I suggest you refresh to see my changes)
Let's make something clear here. There is a bit of a rework addiction going on. DOTA 2 has 107 heroes. We have a few more than that. Reworks, are necessary, and important.
In fact, they are absolutely imperative to champions that are newly released.
However, not everything, my friends, must end in a rework. There are over 100 champions. If you wanted a 100% perfection rate so that every champion could be picked up by you and played to a carry, I would say something is wrong. If you have over 100 champions, I think it's time to realize that it's normal to have a few outliers that aren't played often, however might fill their own niche really well. There are some people who just enjoy these outliers.
But please, stop suggesting the rework as the solution to everything. I appreciate your patronage and all, but... let me explain what I mean by asking why you don't want to play ashe very often. She doesn't do damage? Bad champion? Very weak, and has no escape? Or whatever? What could it be? I mean, she isn't "bad" at all... Well why don't you ask a rework for her? Because people of course, simply don't. And she isn't played particularly often. (At least not when you get above level 20)
I mean, you'd think that by the whole rework logic, that since Ashe isn't popular and I mean, has very standard gameplay, people would want her buffed. But no. It's because she's a very standard and mainline champion. It's hard to change a champion like her. Furthermore she's arguably the most basic, simple, and default champion ever. Think about it... she's pretty damn simple. However, compared to someone who is popular for a rework, like Yorick or Skarner, people just can't stop itching the word "rework". Why? What's the difference between a champion who arguably is lacking in complexity in the whole race of champions who are getting more and more diverse, vibrant, and dynamic.. and Yorick?
Could it be... Well, they are a bit irregular. Yorick... Skarner.... They don't play like most champions might, and they're also rather obscure... Unlike Ashe.
This whole "rework" addiction seems to be purely based on personal bias. I, would goddamn rework Ashe the first thing. Why? Because compared to some new champion like Yauso, she is utterly outplayed in every way. Well, let me explain what I mean. If you can't notice, the new champions are getting crazier and crazier. That's not bad, nor good, but if you don't see it, Kalista has the most interesting passive in the game. Yauso (is pretty awesome), but, look at his wind wall. That's pretty damn creative. Rek'sai has a goddamn teleport. Don't think I'm criticizing them. Just note that newer champions are getting more and more complex. That's all it means. However, when we compare it to Ashe, Ashe is just a very linear champion. Compared to rek'sai, she can't do all these crazy things, such as block projectiles, jump fifty feet, spin attack and stab, drill a hole into the ground, call in an airstrike, or do anything particularly amazing. She's just very basic, very straightforward. In a way, I would say she's much less dynamic.
So let me continue by saying there is, however, something wrong when you call out to destroy or alter champions other people like a lot. Let's not consider historical context, let's just suppose an angry mob riots and says something like, Teemo is OP, and all his abilities are deleted. That's clearly wrong. Well... in the same way, Let's say Yorick is fix'd like that.
WHY??? What did he ever do to you? Really, he doesn't even have a bad win/loss rate... Not positive, nor negative. And you don't even suggest to put Lee Sin on the guillotine first? How about you check yourself before you start suggesting your stupid patronizing little reworks for those oh-so disadvantaged champions?
As far as I am concerned, Riot's reworks are inventive, but have ultimately destroyed the champions. I really personally appreciate Riot's thoughts and efforts and results... but now I can't lie to myself.. these reworks don't always go so well. Sona's rework was clearly unpopular... Taric makes no sense (sorry Taric players) Urgot and Yorick... well, I admit defeat, they're unpopular now strictly because of their full rework. Oh, and poppy. OH, and my once-favorite champion, Evelynn. I would just like to digress and elaborate why reworks are ultimately, not well-done. I think evelynn's perma-stealth is simply spectacular. I played her for so long (I played her after her rework) which I utterly enjoyed. However, soon, when I got above level 20, I realized that something didn't make sense. Evelynn is an assassin. At least.. that's what she's supposed to be reworked as. So why is the only viable build, a full tank build? I really don't blame Riot, but this is crazy. You can easily see that in pro games, almost no one builds an AP, or AD eve. In order not to get destroyed, I unfortunately was forced to build a tank eve every single game I ever played. This is... just stupid! At least, before her rework, it made sense to build out full AP........ So... that does suggest why she may be that unpopular.
So in champions who are on the rework list, like Diana, Yorick or any of the other ones that aren't particularly popular, let me explain something.
Not everyone needs a rework. But I'm not against reworks... I'm against thinking about this wrong. First of all, if you would consider, Ashe could probably use some help. And you, you are just suggesting some other champion that you couldn't figure out well requires a rework--- because you couldn't figure him/her out. There can be reasons why people would ever want a rework for champions like Ashe, and champions like Yorick. However, the reasons separating the two are minute. Now this is up to you to decide. But I just think it's ignorance. Some people love Yorick. Skarner. Mordekaiser. I personally like DIana. And it's not as if these champions have terrible win/loss rates.... they just don't fit everyone's playstyle. They can be hard to get into. And that's when people start yelling for a rework.
I would be devastated if some of the unthoughtfuls on this site, who have never even touched Diana for more than one game and concluded she was terrible, got her a nice and pleasant "rework". But that's all it takes, a big voice. It's totally possible for a rework to be summoned on some innocent champion by people who haven't tried it.
So please. Stop using the R-word.
