The Upcoming Preseason will be the most unbalanced state League will have been in since launch.

And I don't mean that to disparage Riot.

The core fact is that the rune system has been in place since 2009 and beforehand. It's a system that has become core to the identity of league. The numerical bonuses can make or break certain champions and Riot has always balanced around an optimal runepage with around 1k extra stats. With the preseason rune changes, we're completely scrapping a numerical system and mastery system. Everything is likely going to be VERY weak in comparison unless Riot does a sweeping stat change to any/all classes.

I don't say this to talk shit but I say it to be aware. Because nothing is going to compare to the gutting/utter change that we're going to witness here.

I love preseason. The fire always has such pretty colors.

But it will make those champs easier to balance

I like this. It means all you people that have 2 or 3 years of experience on me will now be rebooted back to noobcake status.

The implementation of keystones was already a numerical change that already made things harder to balance. It's not going to be any different from S6 start. Well, I mean it will to an extent, but I doubt it'll be a drastic difference.

Keystones were a big change, yes, but masteries do not affect the game nearly to the degree runes do.

Runes offer around 1k extra stats right out of the gate and can make or break the laning phase. ESPECIALLY if you're a jungler.

That's kind of why they are being changed.

Runes should offer choices, but you're almost forced into takin armour, ap/ad, mr, and penetration/attack speed. Outside of these the only real changes are Hp and/or CDR.

Once they change runes, that also means they can tone down on how heavy things smack you for in the early game to compensate.

Changing the game around the new runes will be infinitely easier, because it's simply a case of readjusting the hole left by old runes, which is simply numbers

Man early game is already rough with some champions I can't imagine how awful it's going to be without the free stats. I already know riot isn't going to give many non-favored champions any attention so it's going to be months to years before the fallout from it is addressed.
