This is actually extremely punishable, and solo queue lacks the team coordination necessary to pull it off.

For example, taking smite/flash top means you have no tele/ignite. If the enemy top has tele, you can't follow if he teleganks bot lane.

Taking smite/teleport top means you have no flash. Any decent jungler will know to kill you, as you have no escape and can be cc'd down. Even you you do have an escape, the lack of flash hurts in that you have less playmaking ability, and less "I gotta get out of here" ability.

In addition, your jungler is more than likely going to rage at you for stealing camps :P

3k health with two items? Yeah if you're truly playing a tank and know how to just farm instead of trying to get kills with no kill pressure in your lane its worth it. That is how bad cinderhulks passive is. If you could buy machetes without smite I would be getting cinderhulk every game and even then its still worth imo

If a player can acknowledge the weaknesses and play around them, then anything can be done. That applies with everything in League, including in-meta stuff.

Example: Jungle Sejuani Weak early game; therefore get a strong leash and take safe paths for clearing and ganking.

Taking Smite in Top Lane Lower map pressure OR lesser play-making abilities. Therefore, force opponent to stay top lane or play cautiously in lane.

Yeah, people will find it weird, but it's not going to get too much rage I'd imagine. Just make sure to explain that you are not the jungler. Maybe have ignite or flash there until near the end, explain you are bringing smite top, and get smite.

That will prevent people who tabbed from thinking you're the jungler and leaving your team without a jungler.
