Tanks besides Sejuani and Amumu are USELESS right now!

Im a tank player, i tried all the item combinations early mid late it doesnt matter, mid to late game they lack survavibility and they are useless and the nerf to health in tank items is the cause, when you cant achieve 4k health due to build anymore is no wonder champions like graves. lucian and yi can delete you in midst of teamfights.

Im just soo sick of this biased AD META you riot is trying to pass because of LCS play, you created this game BEFORE LCS always remember that!!, its not a selective people that deserve to be heard on top of millions of players in the community you know?!

You can downvote me all you want, just remember we told riot over and over that reworking fine champs would be disastrous... did they hear us? ofcourse not. Champs that were fine and got reworked to be useless and unfun like zac, malzahar, maokai, mordekaiser and others the next one might be yours.

Btw where are all the tank players here can we get an awe?

remember the meme build of item 3748 item 3053 item 3071 item 3078 item 3022 item 3047 ? it was impressive how this was almost as tankish as most tank builds late game, the tank update made it actually more tankish than real tank builds for most champions.

Spoofghoul3 votes

yea that kinda looks like my new sion build

i ditched most of the tank items they are useless they wont make you live longer so why bother building them

Damage items are simply better especially the AD ones since Riot has a fat boner for AD

item 3194 ...Singed I cri evry time.

Item is complete bullshit for the dot champions in the game. Like wtf.

i mean we had to get rid of swain and cassio top cancer somehow

I agree, i feel malphite is still fine even though not much play him anymore. But yeah, I have seen less and less tanks played.

Normally if my team needs a tank, my go-to tank is Chogath because he has been my main since I've started playing League.

Rapid fire cannon and youmuu's aren't anti-tank items.

Rapid fire cannon also isn't an item Yi should ever build, and if one ran a train on you it's because your team played like hot garbage.

Honestly cho can easily 1 shot a yi.

You simply drop your q on top of your self so when he pops out of alpha strike he gets knocked up then silenced and feasted.

Dead in like 1 second.

Any champ with a easily predicted ability should get DESTROYED by even a moderately skilled cho.

Baron of Bread8 votes

Except a moderately good Yi wouldn't use Alpha strike to close on a Cho'Gath. They would save it to dodge the Rupture.

statelesskiller4 votes

he cant dodge if he is silenced though

Ahristocats1 votes

the silence has a delay actually, whenever yi sees cho doing the animation he can dodge the silence and then dodge Q with R bonus ms

I'm not going to worry about that in low gold.

New maokai is actually pretty strong. Mageokai at least. Can't talk about tank maokai

Shen feels underwhelming mainly because of his ult changes and the HP reductions.

Poppy, on the other hand, is rocking hard with the new resistances.

Poppy is #53 out of 57 for winrate on Champions.gg for toplane. League of Graphs put her as #127 out of 136 champions for Platinum+ players (#114th for Diamond+). Um, yeah - rocking hard...

kasfas3 votes

She really isn't. Her win rate is lower than ever. She still feels ok to play though.

Oh please. Maokai ult was a tad disappointing but throwing his babies into bushes is really fun. He's far from "useless".

I think the point is that it's really hard for him to carry as a pure tank now.

Pure tanks were never good at carrying.

Sejuani Zac were fairly good at operating as semi-carries though

Not really true. I've carried in the past on my other account using Mundo, Shen, Poppy and Rammus - in pure tank modes. You could still fall behind in lane and outscale in mid to late game versus the Rivens, Dariuses, etc. As long as you knew your job was to shutdown the squishies and take the turrets, and not deviate from your role, then you could carry quite well.

BreadSammich4 votes

I honestly have to disagree with the entirety of this post. I have felt like each game I've been in has been decided by who have more tanks on their team. I've played almost strictly tanks (mainly Galio and Malphite) and haven't felt useless. In fact I feel like I bring a lot to the team. Riot has said that they want tanks to be doing less damage and more CC. You have to think about tanks more like supports. Instead of carry-tanks they are now like standard MMO tanks where they literally only provide a frontline wall for the DPS champs. Once you see what your role is in the game you see that you definitely aren't useless.

Ralanr2 votes

The problem with thinking that tanks are more like supports (which I do agree with more or less) is that people start to think (and maybe fear) that tanks belong in bot as a support.

Sometimes, I feel like the only tank main who liked the update...

The increased resistances really work well with Poppy.

Maokai Sejuani Chogath Galio Amumu Alistar

Um, not if you build them like tanks. Here's what I mean - the best odds of winning are building them not as tanks.

Maokai is a broken AP support - sapling bombs(!). The successful version of Amumu is a twist on Grenade Amumu. If you want to win with Galio, then you build him as an AP damager - not a tank. Sejuani is acknowledged broken, and even then you aren't building her as a true tank to win lane - you build her for Attack Speed, otherwise you are stuck with the lousy clearing ability that's cursing the other tanks on top. Cho'Gath is not built as a tank either - if you want him to have any chance (mind you, he is still faring nearly as poorly as the rest of the "tanks").

As for Alistar, the one I might agree with you on - well, he doesn't leave bottom lane as a support, really - because he has terrible wave clear (his winrate outside of botlane is sub 45%).

Troll for Trump1 votes

The Ap builds become cheese, because people like to carry. Yes, I build AP on Cho, but tank build is by far better.

The AP builds are good early, but are much worse than their tank counterparts lategame. That doesn't mean tanks are bad, just that the game is often too fast for them to get tanky enough.

TheSingularity5 votes

Mageokai magalio Mamumu

Cho and sej are the only ones who can legitimately build full tank (not off tank with a ROA) and still work. If ALI didn't have his ultimate, he probs wouldn't either and would join the other 3 as malistar.

Anti tank is too strong, tank is too weak and kit dependant (hence sej passive, ali ult or cho ult) and thus instead of wasting time trying to survive an extra second tanks are opting into "pop goes the weasel" builds.

Geshultz2 votes

Definitely possible to achieve 4000+ health with proper build.

Example build top lane: With nautilus lvl 18 Item:item 3083 item 3047 item 3068 item 3065 item 3025 item 3742

800 hp from warmongs+ 425x3 from items = 2075 bonus health. Nautilus base health at lvl 18 is 2038

2038+ 2075 = 4113 total health from build plus 215 bonus armor from items and 60 magic resist along with 40% cool down reduction

On top of all other stats given.

Likely issue is that your not building warmongs or frozen mallet within your build to make your resists more effective. As the health from the items is now more valuable then ever.

TheSingularity1 votes

It shouldn't take until lvl 18 to hit that. Tanks already "drop off" in survivability as the ADC scales up, going from eary-mid game meat shields or disruption tanks to CC bots that combo then die soon after.

Tanks, as they did last season, should scale faster than other classes but drop off harder when the builds are even. As it becomes base damage vs scaling damage which usually results in scaling on top.

AgeOfTheMage2 votes

Braum i'd say braum is a good tank, same for leona.

Galio is super strong right now, unless counter picked and Gragas is still relevant

and mine was Fiora. As far as I'm concerned, she's 100% changed from what she used to be, and i hate her rework up to this date. Even if a lot of people love her new rework, its disgusting to me

Try Mundo, he seems about the same. though i was worried about the hits to hp items. So i changed keystones for slightly less surviveability early game. from grasp to the new one bond of stone or whatever. Simply with the hp hits, I wanted the exstra %5 hp. I honestly think Cho'gath is useless. Simply without his ult he simply doesn't even have the damage to even push people 1v1 off him.

I've sort of strayed away from Mundo, as the utilities/items that sort of negate what makes his kit interesting, grow at a rather gross pace.

Makharya5 votes

Lane is very safe. Moreover Mundo is more a juggernaut than a true tank he lack the engage and the utility for that. You're just going to kill/zone their damage dealer thanks to your mobility/sustain/CC reduction. You can have pretty decent damage couple with a perma slow that's pretty decent but yes utilities isn't the best thing.

Vallalan1 votes

i like the idea riot has gone with in response to this general idea. while its not 100% true if tanks are as useless as some people make it seem, if they are too squish for what riot wants riot says they will buff the tanks base and scaling stats rather than itemization.

I like this. because it means tanks get tankier but bruisers and everyone else won't be abusing tank items. you'll slowly over time get less of this fizz tank bull shit you see. i think there's a lot of flack right now because its an adjustment phase but now riot has the tools to adjust tanks accordingly. and i Think they could use some defensive stat buffs for sure. to scaling at least. it will be cool to someday see tanks as actually tanky.

kasfas3 votes

Buffing tank kits just leads them to build more efficient items. Sion for instance could already build steraks and do well with it. If items don't get buffed, he's likely to gain steraks as a core item.

Tank itemization is bad, and buffing tanks will just make them ignore the bad itemization and get the good bruiser items instead.
