mobility creep got me thining (again) and i found an error that lies somewhere else

And this time i think that i came to meet the problem from diferent perspective than people normaly did including me. I analyzed thematic fitting of overall power into champions.
When you say mobility creep people usualy see a dashing lee sin and yasuo in their heads (at least i did for the most of the time), but did you know that chammpions with dashes are usualy very fast runners, because it fits the theme of mobile champion which kinda contradicts ballance logic (by ballance logic getting strenght A means you get weakness B). So we have 2 diverse types of champions that should behave in 2 diferent ways, one is mobile nimble and precise and other is slow and hard hitting both should have 2 diverse playstyles that dont overlap too much, both represent 2 diferent types of finghting decided by their theme

And i didnt realy notice that untill i started thinking about what makes immobile guys special, what do they gain thanks to their lack of mobility that would logicaly fit and define their diference from mobile guys. She easy answer is strenght or simply power, mobile guy is fast and nimble, he dodges and hits the weak spot, immobile guy is big and strong he crushes you without mercy and takes hits to the face , the same thing can apply even to mages, a jumpy mage thematicaly is able to unload magic damage at one target with precision, while immobile mage causes hell to go lose with his insane power going on rampage everywhere

and now let me get to the point since i explained my thought process to you

What is the easiest way to conwey the theme of strenght without anything that involwes your raw damage output ? My answer is hard crowd controll as we know it, knockups stunns and stuff, thematicaly it fits the theme of power. When you slam someone with immerse power he gets stunned or knocked out, when you kick someone with immerse power the guy flies back.

Abilities that have cc are usualy tied to skills that represent the theme of raw power

  • dragons rage is an insanely powerfull kick that sends the target back -unburrow causes rek sai to jump out of the ground with a force that can lauch anyone above him into the air -vault breaker is a punch so powerfull that it pushes you back -second part of counterstrike is a lamp post slam to the head that cuases concussion

and the list goes on and on, basicaly most of skills that are used for cc are made on the theme of power
unless we are speaking about mages where this gets tricky with their design there are champions that fit my description -azir slams into you and bumps you back -power theme is there his ultimate creates a wall of shiel.d guys ramming you up and pushing you back- power theme is again there -xerath slamms you with a power ball- power theme is there and guys who dont -fiddle scares you with one key- no power theme here -ahri charms you with a kiss- no power theme here Owerall most of mages cc conweys the theme of power by either being an explosion shockvawe or a ball of raw dark power slaming into you and binding you but there are exceptions, but they arent limited to that.

And what is the error that i found ?

the error is that the champion design didnt count cc into being an expression of strenght thematic that should be mainly used by immobile champions who incorporate the strenght thematic into their core, so mobile champions got their share and now prove to be straight out outperforming immobile guys in 90% of the cases where they are both mobile, dangerous, durable and have that cc on top of it

Thematicaly speaking lee is a fast guy who is nimbly maneuwering through combat to help his allies and catch his enemies, but does that theme say he has the power to kick an enemy so far away ? i would say that his theme says he is a soft hitter that is just omni present, not a mega ton powerhouse being able to lauch you into an orbit with a kick

But look at mordekaiser, he is a metal giant with a gigantic mace, do you think that you will be still standing once he slams you into the ground with it ? nope you will be lying on the ground or you will just get launched away. Does that theme say that his mace shouldnt stagger you ?

So in our current design lee is a guy who is both a fast runner and nimble jumper but also a body builder with legs strong enough to launch a gient metal armour into the air.

I think that most of mobility creep problem rises from the fact that riot didnt think about leaving an area for immobile champions to live in when they started adding mobility. So in the end mobile champions just do more things overall.

That does not mean that being mobile excludes having cc, but that also does not mean that mobile champions should be able to outrun you outdamage you and have better cc than you.

Soft cc and short cc, any kind of minor cc can thematicaly go to mobile guys, but it should be the immobile guys who master the art of slamming people into the ground or launching them into space.

So my opinion is mobility creep is not a ballance problem but design values which didnt give any unique feature to the immobile guys that wouldnt be accesible to mobile ones when increasing the champion pool. But i dont blame them becuase noone of you would think about future so far and with such details in mind when creating a game.

I hope you can work for riots to se this post. MMaybe it helps them. Because thats what is the main problem, that immobile guys dont have anything that they do that is their job and speciality. If we actualy enforce those 2 diferent themes it is possible to create a viable and quite healthy interaction beetwen mobile and immobile guys where they wield similar stats but just fight in diferent ways both having pros and conns Riots money goes more and more towards the reworking of champions so making riot aware of this is even more important.

Im realy proud of my thought proces thou im not sure if its flawles (people who read it maybe will help me to make it better), also i need to thank the reds who posted on forums before, some of their posts explained the generalist problem with lee sin as an example, and that was what mainly allowed me to deduct that mobile champions in out current game are generalists compared to immobile ones

I could be wrong, (it was a long read) but basically what you are saying:

"Riot doesn't value mobility as an expression of power as high as they should". (ie if they have high mobility they should have draw backs in other areas)

i didn't even read the whole post 'cause of grammatical errors and typos. But i came to that conclusion BEFORE reading the article.

"Riot doesn't value mobility as an expression of power as high as they should". (ie if they have high mobility they should have draw backs in other areas)

its more that riot doesnt aknowledge hard cc as something that is core to expression of immobile champions theme so they didnt hold back at giving it to mobile champions, nor tried to give it to immobile ones (the likes of morde and darius exist and they cry)

in result this made immobile champions obsolete, as they are just balls of stats that dont compete anything besides their stats most of the time, while mobile champions tend to do everything, from jumping to dealing damage through soaking damage to having usualy good crowd controll and being the play makers

this design aproach realy distorts the powerbudget of champions for example -darius has good damage and good tankyness, thats all he has and all he does and the only way darius can express his power is through his numbers -jarwan is capable to get similar damage and similar tankyness while being mobile and having good cc on top of that

(ie if they have high mobility they should have draw backs in other areas)

ye thats the case its more of a global take on generalist problem riot faces with lee and j4
lee and j4 do everything so there isnt much of a reason to pick them over other champions in most of teamcomps (thats why they are so popular in lcs) mobile champions tend to do everything immobile champions do and more so there isnt a reason to pick immobile champions over them in any teamcomp

but riot kinda centered their design of immobile champions around numbers (damage and tankyness, not cc and utility), which ties their hands when it comes to ballance (check ryze problem, he has 0 interaction so his winrate is dictated 100% by numbers, players skill becomes almoust obsolete)

tl;dr i think that mobile champions have kits overloaded with stuff that it out of their theme, while immobile champions kits are lacking stuff that fits their theme, which makes it look like there is mobility creep in our game while riot just goes full retard on champions powerbudget
