Is anyone trully satisfied with rek'sai being a tank

Knight SoIaire ··51 votes·5,641 views

Since some patches thats basicaly the role she serves ...

with every patch that had changes for rek sai she usualy got hit ... being present allower the map has it perks so she was indeed realy powerfull

but with any champion that is flexible nerfs have a side effect ... they dont reduce the power but change the direction it is channeled

so from a damage dealer rek sai evolwed into a "knock-up bot"

i personaly dont like that about her ... you have 6 skills and only 2 prove to be usefull late (unburrow and tunnel)

i would like to know what is others opinion on this ... do you like rek'sai as a tank or would you prefer her to be a hunter (she isnt a marksman so i dont think that word "damege dealer" would fit)

edit: also the thing that i trully consider most important but derped too hard to write it first ... the theme of a champion rek sai is a ravenous beast that stalks and kills stuff to eat it ... its very dangerous and agressive when rek sai is a tank she just doesnt feel like a predator riot advertises her as ... instead she feels like a " knock up bot" that people call her

Because she was given way too many tools

She has no mana, she has innate sustain, she has (had more) good damage, she has good cc, she has a global

She was given way too much so they had to nerf something

Nerfing her damage was the most obvious way

Her kit is overloaded as hell so yea that's whats going to happen eventually.

Zenthon Prime12 votes

But it was the wrong way. The nerfs she's finally getting to her utility are what she should have been getting to begin with.

Agreed. Rek'sai is another Nidalee type champion that Riot created, one with 6 abilities. In the past, we've ALWAYS had a point when these type of champs were extremely OP (Jayce, Elise, Nidalee, Rek'Sai), and had to be nerfed. So its really no surprise to me that Riot has to nerf Rek'sai now, and she's STILL being used in the competitive scene regardless. The next time Riot creates a 6 abilities champion, lets hope they learn from their past mistakes (who are we kidding, not gonna happen.)

While I do think it has made her more balanced, I just don't find fun in playing Reksai anymore. I used to play her a lot before with warrior enchant as a bruised with killer damage.

Now, I basically HAVE to go tanky because her damage has been nerfed significantly. And why play Reksai for anything but the burrowed vision. Other tanks are more fun because they have more varied cc.

Ever since she was released she has been nerfed except for tunnel CD. Now she's not very fun anymore ( for me at least).

Harrys Nut Shack4 votes

This. She still manages to appear in my lane at 4 minutes with nearly full hp at level 3. She's not ult reliant and she has no trouble with resources so her early game is unbalanced and her lategame kinda sucks.

Are you talking about Lee Sin here? except the global ult? :P

I think the problem is the sheer amount of power budget that they loaded into her utility. She has immense mobility when needed, she has a semi-global ult that gives her a lot of weird strengths in terms of ability to check objectives and just generally reduced downtime regarding getting gold and experience, she has an amazing vision tool, fog of war reveal, and her knockup.

I think it's difficult for them to justify her being a damage dealer when she offers so much just by walking around.

junglerboy166 votes

Nope, when she came out I was excited for the first DPS/duelist fighter the game had seen in ages, but then in cookie cutter fashion, Riot chose to nerf everything about her damage instead of nerfing her durability or utility. When Riot gives us a true damage dealing, steroid heavy DPS champ, you expect them to keep it like that, instead we're left with a tank that still deals a lot of damage and is good at everything.

Cloud Potato5 votes

Consider how her damage is supposed to be dealt:

  • Basic attacks as a melee champion without any movement speed boosts or slows. Not good.

  • AoE basic attacks on Q. Best used in the middle of the team.

  • E dealing more damage with more rage, generated by, you guessed it, basic attacks.

  • All burrowed abilities drain her rage, including her gap closer, which isn't even that fast.

So basically all her damage is in basic attacks and E, which needs basic attacks to build up in damage. Not only that, but she can't use any of her burrowed abilities while generating rage. She simply cannot function as a damage dealer because it's far too difficult for her to build up rage for an E nuke, which is her only damage source besides burrowed Q, which doesn't deal that much. It's absolutely no surprise she ended up as a Tank.

The problem is that she already has a rather opressing earlygame, she has the best gankpaths and mapmobillity of all junglers while also haveing great clearspeed and sustain. If her damage would be any higher, her ganks and counterjungleing would become insanly powerfull, and if her damage would cale better, she could snowball that early advantage even more...

So where would you nerf her to compensate for a damage buff? What would you take away from her to prevent a insanly oppresive early with insane snowball potential? Her kit just gives so much power to her early jungle that her damage has to suffer for it, and without changeing the kit and with that some of her core gameplay, you can't really allow her to deal more damage. If you minimize her utillity, she would become rather binary as she would get reduced to a ball of stats with global mobillity, so devastateing if ahead, usless if behind.

I totally understand where you're coming from, beeing more dmaage focused would be thematically better, and damage reksai definitly feels more statisfying to play, especially as her sounds and animations deliver the ravenous beast feeling quite well, but damage reksai would simply not be healthy gameplaywise.

Knight SoIaire 2 votes

there is just too much of the tools and handles to ballance her out ... her kit is built in such a way that you will never run out of ways to ballance her

for instance ... hitting her bbase damage hard and uping her scalings hard ... its a nerf to her early game and buff to late

you can also tweak the cooldown of her tunnel so she wont be able to sustain a network this easy ... and will have to choose beetwen a tunner network or a dash during the gank

there is also the movesped her w gives her ... and its cooldown .... recast block

there is just too much space to sum up all the ways and possibilities ... it would take pages and i would probably miss a load of them

so i cant agree with you that it isnt good for the game ... rek sai's kit is built in a way that will allow you to change her into anything you want

Fadedpf4 votes

Yes. Full damage reksai can be pulled off if you are snowballing massively. Buy a thornmail on top of triforce/hydra and crap on everyone. So I am glad you actually need to snowball because her ganks are insanely good. No one has questioned that.

Knight SoIaire 2 votes

yeah but for some reason i feel like that wont be as succesfull as normal tank also if enemies catch up ... you get hit hard for not working good with the items you bought

if you mean riding the advantage that you wont lose ... you can do it with most champions you can find thou

Heckin Support4 votes

Is everyone satisfied with evelynn being an off-tank? No Is everyont satisfied with Elise being a tank? No

Riot needs to stick with an idea of a champion and go with that single idea. Stop trying to make champions strong in more than one thing because it just doesn't make them up to par. At least be happy with the fact she's a tank, and a damn good one at that with decent damage.

Lugg3 votes

Rek'sai literally has everything you could want in a jungler. Extreme mobility, high damage, tanky, can easily invade and evade, poke, true damage, CC, the list goes on and on. Riot either needs to do a sizeable nerf on her damage or her health. She is miles ahead of any other jungler for all around play.

Zunori3 votes

I think she's fine now. Her winrate has been at a steady 50% this patch after the knockup nerf.

Lugg3 votes

That didn't address the problem with her though. Still does way too much damage for being that tanky.

Rinky Dinky2 votes

not really.

Her damage is below almost all other champions in her class as a fighter.

In fact, I think it might be the lowest.

That's the trade off for her utility.

Rek Sai is balanced now

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

but couldnt it be that she loses up on durability instead of damage

she doesnt have to remove anything she finds ... with her utility she could easily become a type of a hunter ... mixture beetwen a fighter and an assasin that handles teamfights worse but lives on her map presence to catch popple who wanderr off ?

Lugg1 votes

Her damage starting out is average for Fighters and it scales into the top third by late game. She starts out stronger than either Pantheon or Yasou and she is about even with Darius and Riven.

TurquoiseYoshi3 votes

She should be a bruiser. Not a tank.

ChaoticPinecone3 votes

The problem is that Rek Sai has too much in her kit, as well as having a non-damage ult. Champions with 'damage' ults can be gated by it, weakening their other spells for the powerspike at 6. You cant put the 1v1 Bruiser damage of Xin in 3 spells and achieve balance. If her 3 spells were stronger you overrun everything at level 3.

And she isnt a tank any more than Lee Sin is a tank. You can still build damage on her and do well. Just like you can build damage Vi, Jarvan, Nocturne, and Lee Sin. With cinderhulk going out of the meta and the popularity of Runeglaive and Devourer, you can actually build damage Rek Sai again.

The Loveless1 votes

Warrior is shit though. She's better as a dps top than a dps jungler. I think her true damage could be her bread and butter burst, but people prefer maxing q.

James Stone3 votes

Rek'Sai is said to be as big as a house, and the Broodmother of all Xer'Sai. So I think yes, the "Tank" role fits her quite well.

dr lichdeath2 votes

no clue i still play her the exact same way when i bought her devourer blue botrk boots randuins spirit visage and then frozen mallet or warmogs and well more dmg nothing less

Zunori1 votes

How well does sated devourer work on her?

Erockandroll1 votes

{quoted}

How well does sated devourer work on her?

Her passive rage generation, possibly her Q, would be the only things that Sated scales with. Probably wouldn't be the best user of Sated Devourer.

But it's a matter of what you want. If you want late game dueling, get devourer. If you want early game pressure, get warrior. if you want survivability, get Cinderhulk.

dr lichdeath1 votes

well it does have advantages as you get more fury in less hits which lets you do true dmg a lot earlier so its good especially with botrk but i feel like it has some limits now so perhaps i sould change it over to something else not sure tough

Is anyone trully satisfied with rek'sai being a tank

She's covered in an exoskeleton, which is essentially full-plate mail.

Also - bugs are kind of dicks when it comes to their hunting. A lot of them trend towards the Spider pattern of paralyzing their prey and slowly eating them alive, rather than the Tiger pattern of going straight for the jugular and instantly killing their prey before it even falls to the ground. I mean - army ants just swarm things and eat them alive, wasps lay their eggs in things, praying mantises mostly grapple their prey then slowly much away on them, ant lions basically do the praying mantis thing but with a sand trap. Not exactly insta-gib assassins.

Additionally, Rek'sai does look more bulky than lean.

I don't see Rek'Sai's aesthetic conflicting with being tanky.

i would like to know what is others opinion on this ... do you like rek'sai as a tank or would you prefer her to be a hunter (she isnt a marksman so i dont think that word "damege dealer" would fit)

Marksman aren't the only damage roll, they don't have a monoploy on being a damage dealer.

There are also fighters, assassins, and mages as major damage dealers.

Usually post-game damage stats from all 4 damage rolls are pretty much the same. What differs is more their means of surviving long enough to deal damage: fighters have tankyness, assassins mobility, mages range, marksman a combination of range and mobility, a few fighters a combination of mobility and defense.

The only thing damage is really counter-balanced against is CC/utility

Unfortunately for the future of assassin Rek'Sai, her global presence is a lot more in the CC/utility direction than anything else.

Knight SoIaire 2 votes

I don't see Rek'Sai's aesthetic conflicting with being tanky.

not aesthetic ... but thematic

when someone tells you about a rawenous mole type beast that dewours anything it finds ... it points you towards the tiger type predator ... very dangerous and agressive

being someone who is meant to recieve the beatings instead of giving them to people just doesnt fit a champion whos entire theme is about agression

67chrome1 votes

not aesthetic ... but thematic

I'm fairly certain "Aesthetic" applies to theme. It's basically the overall feel of something, how every part works together to create a whole.

Also - "ravenous" gives me the impression of something akin to a Barbarian. Same thing with high aggression. Rage, fury, brutality: that's more of a theme for fighters, tanky DPS, strength based classes. Someone who gets in the thick of things and isn't afraid to take a hit while they're giving a beating. A bruiser, a brawler. Someone or something that fights for the sake of fighting, or kills for the sake of killing.

Assassins are usually associated with being stone-cold and devoid of emotion, which is largely the opposite end of the spectrum. Focusing on skill and accuracy, high coordination, stealth, and cunning. Someone or something who essentially doesn't fight at all, preferring to catch their opponents completely off-guard with as little resistance as possible.

Rage bug strikes me as more of a barbarian-class that kills for the sake of killing. She does use Fury.

being someone who is meant to recieve the beatings instead of giving them to people just doesnt fit a champion whos entire theme is about agression

I think you might be getting to caught-up in a JRPG/Final Fantasy/Pokemons paradigm for this. Not every game is limited to characters being Tanky or DPS

Within LoL's mechanics, range or mobility provide about as much, if not more, surviability than actual defense. So LoL has tanky DPS, ranged DPS, and mobile DPS champions, not just Tanky champions and DPS champions.

Being able to take a beating and give a beating aren't mutually exclusive things. Aesthetically or in terms of LoL's mechanics. Rek'Sai's aesthetic indicates she does both.

SoMNia2 votes

I want Bruiser Rek'Sai back. Unfortunately, since they hacked 40% of the damage off of Queen's Wrath, and they scrapped the new Warrior enchantment, that won't be happening any time soon.

ABlueQuaker2 votes

Her Utility needed to be hit in the first place, not her damage. Reduce the Range of her R, or limit the number of tunnels she can make, or make it so her tunnels have to be in a certain range of each other so that they can only cover a single quadrant of the jungle. Something like that.

Her only CC is her knockup. Her knockup doesn't benefit from CDR therefore she can never really be a tank because she can't keep someone locked down.

She should be a Bruiser/Off-Tank at the very tankiest. Tank Rek'Sai is just... underwhelming. It's like 'hey guys, I got 5 kills and rushed Randuin's and SV so much damage!' and is irrelevant in the mid-to-late game.

Maybe do the old nerf base damage and buff scaling on her Q and E to discourage relying on base damage and encourage players to get TriForce + Hydra or something along those lines.

But nerfing Base damage on such a binary champ (at least in terms of combat effectiveness) with no compensation is never the right thing to do.

Mandang02 votes

I'm not satisfied with Reksai being a global presence with innate sustain and being slippery as hell, not to mention the whole tremor sense and extreme poke range because reasons. I think all of that would be twice as ridiculous on a damage champ than on a tank.

PapaGreg212 votes

Whenver I play rek'sai I feel like I am unstoppable early game. Then everybody groups and I am basically just hanging out with the rest of the team hoping they can finish the game.

Silents4291 votes

She is able to be played as a bruiser still with no problems.

Even seen normal fighter builds work fine on her.

Titanium701 votes

IDK.. last time i played i got Hydra-BC-Tank and killed every Squishy in a few seconds. ^^ Her DMG is still pretty impressive (at Top) i could duel a Darius from level 1, so i wont cosinder her a pure Tank. :)

For Carthage1 votes

Going full damage with Rek is still entirely viable if you're not facing CC heavy comps. It's like full AD Vi - you can completely destroy teams, but you suffer if you're locked down.

I think a better question is, Is anyone truly satisfied with Ekko being a tank? Because I never see him mid as an AP champ anymore; always as a top lane or jungle tank.

Telemachus71 votes

I think hes best building him with cooldown. item 1334 into item 3165 . then go item 3001 or item 3157 then build health and ap. either item 3151 or item 3116

havent tried the new item 3027 yet. I dont think it would be that bad. just get the CDR later i guess.

DJ Hatsune Miku1 votes

She isn't a tank, she's a chunky bruiser. Big difference. When she has reliable cc, natural bulk/tanking measures, and doesn't rely on murder facing people then being a 1 button cc bot late game she can be called a tank.

Aka when she can be compared to Mao or Naut and not Lee or Elise.

Adrian Umbra1 votes

Is anyone truly satisfied with Eve being a tank?

Rek'sai's an early game bruiser who transitions into more of a lategame tank role, like several other junglers I could name (J4, Lee Sin, etc). IMO, she's in a decent place as she is.

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

she's in a decent place as she is.

never denied that

but for me that transition just doesnt feel that natural given the way her kit looks like

for j4 his kit is just made around the stuff that feel like he should be a tank ... he has a shield an aura ... good cc ... he feels like thats the role his kit is meant to take ... your kit is just wanting you to initiate a teamfight and take some hits on your manly chest

with lee sin it also doesnt feel so tied to offense ... he feels more like he is meant to just be flexible and build what works for him currently

with rek i feel more like this is the way numbers push me while the kit dictates otherwise because her combined set of tools feels like its primary goal is to kill

DrinkurMilkshake1 votes

She's still a top 2 meta pick for Jungle. Desperately needs more nerfs.

Knight SoIaire 1 votes

nobody here talks about her being too strong or too weak ... the question is simple "do you prefer her to be a tank or a damage oriented fighter"

DarthSpectrum1 votes

Riot is currently fixated in creating melee kits that have high base but low ratios so players are forced to play them as tanks. The truth of the matter is that being melee is a tremendous disadvantage against champions with range.

Ranged champions not only have the safety of casting from afar, but they also come with some of the highest damage in game. The only way for a melee champion besides assassins with long ranged gap closers to get close to ranged enemies is to be tanky enough to soak up their damage.

Rek'sai falls into this melee category. Her tunnel gap closer is easily avoidable, and she must knock up her target before being kited to death. Therefore, she can't build full or mostly damage.

The outliers to this rule are often regarded as overpowered or broken. Champions either have extreme mobility with heavy damage mitigation mechanics such as Yasuo, Yi, and Tryndamere or have high damage mechanics despite building tanky such as Jax, Shyvana, and Hercarim.

Durzaka1 votes

I fucking loved Reksai as full damage. I even played her top because it was fun.

I basically havent touched her since they nerfed her to the point of needing to build full tank.

If I want a tank jungler, Id enjoy myself more playing Zac than Reksai.
