Why the bot turret has no early fortification compared to top and mid turrets?

Hochelaga··25 votes·3,236 views

Under 5 minutes, mid and top turrets has that fortification passive that reduces all dmg taken by 50%.

but bot tower doesn't have that ! I don't get it ! it's so unfair considering that adcs can easily snowball !

Can someone explain

It was added to stop the pro game lane swapping. Bot and top would swap positions to farm easier, but then the enemy bot would go top, then the first bot would go back bot. It was annoying.

Riot decided to remove bots defence so if a team lane swapped, they would lose the newly added first tower destroyed gold.

Historically speaking, the reason you put your duo lane on the bot side was to put pressure on the dragon. That was back when Dragon's killed gave gold, instead of a scaling buff. But as it currently is, Dragon isn't as important to contest early on. (And it varies depending on what element you get.)

As an alternate to what Riot did, I once proposed that the first blood gold should be put on the dragon instead. That probably wouldn't have removed pressure off of bot lane though, and it may have influenced Jungle choices. (Personally though, I didn't especially care, this was just theory crafting.)

because it encourages team play by attracting junglers to gank

I'm not sure how much attention that attracts to bot side in particular. Since Fortification only lasts 5 minutes, the only way to take advantage of the fact that bot lane doesn't have fortification, is to start sieging before the 5 minutes marker. (That's only especially likely in the Lane swap meta that Riot is suppressing.)

If the bot lane did have that much more focus, I think it would the nature of the duo lane itself. (ADC is better at turret taking, ADC and support as squishy and easier to gank, etc)

The only thing that putting that first-blood gold on the dragon would do is encourage the few level 2 dragon champs to become heavily meta, as that gold is extremely important. You would see Warwick, Nunu, or Shyvana in basically every game, because otherwise you lose the dragon gold.

Not exactly the best for promoting jungle diversity.

Yep, that's exactly what happened in the past and it would happen again.

Riot wanted to discourage lane-swapping in professional play.

Befor they implemented that, the standart in proplay was to laneswap, which usually ended with 4 man pushing and empty lane while the opponents doing the same on the other side, then you switch lanes and do the same again. It was a very low risk way of getting through the laneingphase if played properly. As a result, the first ~10-15 min were rather eventless.

But rather than acknowledgeing that the game is to snowbally, especiialy in the early laneing, and thus results in pros playing it as save as possible till the danger of snwballing is less iminent, they decided to add fortification to top and mid but not bot AND add tower FB so no-one in his right mind would ever laneswap(from the start) ever again. But hey, riot totally does not enforce the meta in any way*[slayer-jinx-unamused]*

Ok sure but they let lane swaps slide for years. It got out of hand tbh and it was really dumb.

I'm happy lane swaps don't exist anymore - but maybe there were other ways to stop them.

They accepted laneswaps before because it was a healthy strategic adaptation which usually only was done to avoid bad lane matchups. Laneswaping co-existing with standart play is good and healthy for the game and increases strategic diversity. The difference in S6 was that it wasn't a specific strategie that sometimes got used for good reason, it replaced the standart lanes and basically was the only viable strategie in proplay.

No, tower fortification has existed for a loooooong time. They removed fortification on the bot turrets and actually lowered the duration of it on top and mid.

Sire Hippington1 votes

yes and no, it did exist, but in a different form, and on all towers. The straight 50% damage reduction for the first 5 min on top/mid but not bot was a reaction to the S6 laneswap meta

Well, for one, it's not as needed. Botlane has two people in it to hold the lane, and both are relatively low damage (both ADC and support are usually out damaged by everyone in early game) for the first five minutes. As a result, it's not likely to take much damage before then.

It was also done to stop lane-swaps, as others have explained.

... And spawned a whole different problem of 4 or 5 man bot lane bumrush fiestas

Fear the Harvest2 votes

Because riot are fuckups that'd rather add a new problem to the game for the sake of "more exciting fast paced LCS action!"

In pro play there was a problem where players would lane swap to avoid bad matchups and would usually just 3-4 man the top tower with the bot lane, the other teams only response was to do the same thing at bot tower, it was really boring to watch the pros trade towers and not play against each other for like 10 minutes

So they made the fortifications to top asnd mid to create a trade off, if you lasne swap to avoid a bad matchup, you lose tempo as the team that didn't swap can take bot tower much faster then you can take top

Meta enforcement.

Meta enforcement.

Every game has a meta, and some level of enforcement on that meta. To simply decry any action taken by a developer to improve their competitive offering as "meta enforcement" is a bit absurd.

Take a step back and look what I wrote. Now go back to your post and remove every part inferring the tone of my comment.

Just a note: Implying is what a person does when saying something - inferring is what another person can do from said statement. Just for future reference. ;D

And I apologize if a two-word post generally used by those who dislike Riot's meta enforcement caused me to believe that you were against it, but if you don't want to be misinterpreted as being on the side of dislike, you may not want to use the way they say things. :)

I've been misinterpreted and/or misquoted even when I voiced my opinions or shared information using properly constructed full sentences.

And yes, I wasn't sure about the usage of that word. "Inferring" does seem to be the word I was looking for.

Because it prevents lane swaps by stopping a losing team from being able to destroy top tower with a concerted effort while the other team destroys bot tower with a concerted effort.

Reaper Soraka1 votes

to steer players away from just swapping top turret for bot. strategically, the mid turret is the only real valuable turret outside of the gold.
