Would i be more successful if i become a one trick?

Is there any particular success to be found in being what is known as a "one trick" player? Recently it feels like im always doing particularly bad in even normal unranked games. I've never seriously played ranked in 5-6 years (by that i mean ive never cared to be ranked) beyond playing placement matches just to see where i'd fall. But with how rank is treated as the be all end all of respect, acknowledgement and worth, i feel pressured into playing it just to feel like im a real part of the league of legends community.

But i feel like now im underperforming more than i ever have while everyone else is has no problem getting multiple S rank performances back to back to back. I can't even remember the last time i even got an S rank myself. I dont know if im just burnt out or if I just have to say ill just never be good enough no matter what, but I don't want to believe that and give up.

Most of the successful players i see or hear being talked about are usually one trick mains of something even if its something off meta--which im not The most enjoyment i get out of playing league is playing its roster of champions instead of just 1 or 2 every game--its hard to conform to that for me. AT the most i try to main a role or two--marksman and support but never maining anything in particular; there are so many champions that i love. But i would want to try to if it would really work and help me improve to the level that i need to be. Can someone give me some advice on this? I would greatly appreciate it <3

Not really. As much as people hate to admit it, you basically master a champion within like 10 games. One tricking wont change your overall skill level

lol. if it takes you more than 10 games to learn the ins and outs of a champion and 95-99% of their mechanics, you're just bad.

You learn the basics in the first 10 minutes of play. Mastering a champ is knowing everything about them.

Knowing exactly where that point is where you win the fight or not. 10 games isn't enough to face the current pool once, let alone enough times to know exactly how to trade vs each champ, and you know exactly when your cooldowns come up without thinking about it.

being OTP isn't just "I only play this champ and I know how their skills work". It is playing that champ so many that you know every match up blindfolded. You know exactly how to gank each champ because you have ganked them before 200 times. You know how each all in goes, because you have done it before 200 times.

There is a difference between a one trick and being a main of a champion. A one trick plays their champ (usually in most roles) and only that champ, a main plays their main champ as a default pick but has a few other champs to counter bad match ups or to help their team comp.

Now to answer the question, yes you will find it a hell of lot easier to win by having a main champ regardless of whether you one trick or not. Having a main lets you know how all their match ups play out and the intricacies of their kit. Personally I mained Orianna for the longest time with an Akali pick for Yasuo and Zed. Later on (over the course of 2 years) I added Zed, Morgana, and Malzahar to that pool of champions. This season I've expanded it with Ahri, Ziggs and Leblanc. At this point it is very hard to stay at peak performance with every champ I play, for example I stay away from higher skill champs like Zed and Ori that I haven't played in a while.

If I want to I can always play a few normals and refresh myself, but I am playing very little league these days due to college. Back on topic though even with this champion pool I still stick to playing Leblanc and Ahri when they are open because I have a lot of recent games on them. This leads to me being fairly well practiced on the champs and leads to easy games.

If I were to just randomly pick a mid lane champ that was meta like Ryze or Corki then I probably wouldn't have this level of success.

Yes you do.

Being a OTP lets you concentrate on the macroplay because you've seen most of the matchups before.

Some people don't mesh with a onetrick playstyle - that's fine. Don't force yourself to conform to a playstyle if it's not natural.

I sometimes wish I had a more diverse champ pool - I literally am basically a onetrick and it hurts me a lot when my champion gets banned/picked (this season is just the worst to be a LB onetrick). There's games where my entire team picks squishy carries, even though they know I'm playing LB, and as much as I'd like to pick a tankier champion, my lack of experience makes that a hard choice.

I've played the same champ for thousands and thousands of games - it feels so daunting to start playing a new champ because of all the hours i'll have to pour in to even be remotely as proficient in any other champion.

I mean, it would be better to be like a 3 trick player but yes, spamming one champion will increase your mechanical skills with them. Just make sure your pick the right champion and don't get stuck one tricking someone like Master Yi who can only do one thing.

One trick means you are going to be stuck in D5. If you do not mind that, then go ahead.

Think the best strategy is to become a onetrick for a while, just to develop your mechanics to a high level, then diversify your champion pool.
