@Riven Mains concerned about 10 bans

Ignore circle jerkers you have little to worry about. I've seen some concerned Riven mains around here and as a Riven player myself I looked up the hard facts. She will never be permabanned.

All are banned more than Riven in the ban rates for all Elos according to League of Graphs. The higher elo you go the less she is banned because they have actually toxic things to ban. Riven is banned only slightly more than Garen. Besides people will so bisy burning two bans on Fizz, Yasuo, Zed, Lee, Xayah and Darius they won't get anywhere close to down that tier list.

Meanwhile have fun being able to ban your counters every game instead of getting first pick Riven into terrible matchups.

Just wanted to give some peace of mind. Meanwhile rip Fizz mains, sorry fish bros.

A common coding issue in games is the ability to cancel portions of ability animations or combo them together with buffering of commands due to how they are coded. No LoL champion does this more than Riven, she is the most, somebody has to be the most. These are known as Animation Canceling and Command/Ability Buffering. Extemely common in gaming in general. Riven does this enough that she is balanced with it in mind. So by technicality she is balanced around what originally was a coding anomaly. Riot embraced this as a gameplay feature similar to fighting games. It allows a good Riven to do a 4-5 second combo in 2-3 seconds for example and to chain abilities vs getting self supressed by the animations of W, AAs, R1/R2 and Tiamat.

That is what he refers to.

Animation cancels? Thats not an exploit. Riot left it in purposefully. Its requires skill and adds to her in my opinion, high skill cap.

Factually by definition an exploit of a bug.

Riot left it in because they'd have to rework the entire champion to bugfix it. They won't do that.

To follow up on this, I'm pretty sure Riven's current animation canceling is actually hard coded in using different code than the original bugs. Riot has made a few tweaks over the years to fix other bugs involving her animation cancels while leaving her canceling ability intact. It's not that Riot doesn't want to rework Riven's code to make her function, they already did that and they brought animation canceling back in on purpose.

So Riot did actually bug-fix Riven's original animation canceling and added new animation canceling code so they could control and modify it.

Edit: By the way, Riot actually had a version of Riven on the PBE a couple seasons back that made her animation canceling more automatic to lower her skill floor and make her more accessible to lower tier players. This went over as well as you'd think and Riot agreed to keep the skill-based animation canceling.

A software bug is an error, flaw, failure or fault in a computer program or system that causes it to produce an incorrect or unexpected result, or to behave in unintended ways.

No longer is it the incorrect or unexpected result. And with the fact that they recently refned the functionality of it, it is behaving exactly in the ways they intend. The factual definition of not a bug.

You are the one obsessing over semantics and 'literal definitions'. It is something that added to the champions design. A champion with only a 3.4% ban rate despite being too strong this patch. And fairly well balanced since S3 only needing minor changes. Whether it was 'literaly by definition' a bug or not it works and Riven is fine.

Banning Riven was always a waste of a ban.

Riven is the kind of champ where if you feed her, they'll decimate your entire team, but if she sucks, (or if you're better) she will try to roam because she cant get kills from top. Banning someone like that is a waste. (Especially since Riven players are really rare.)

Fizz and Darius are on permaban for me. I play squishy immobile mages and burly, immoble tanks top. (or the occasional Rumble.) Someone like Sion can be very difficult to play into Riven, but Darius or Fizz are (at least for me) no win scenarios.

If a Sion player understands the hyper-aggro, easily tilted mentality shared by all Riven mains, she becomes an extremely simple matchup.
