some riven numbers

without R. just a basic Riven Q cancel combo

4 autos plus Q and her passive . am not counting W. am just counting the situation if riven Es in and Q cancels on you without ult. just a basic lane combo.

the damage is

620% Total AD + 30 ----- 780% total AD + 270 based on level.

this is counting each AA damage which is 100% ad. also counting her passive. 25-50% ad based on level per auto.

and also Q which is 120-180% ad based on rank plus base damage

so a level 2 Q cancel does 6.2 AD ratio damage. if riven has 85 AD at level 2. her Q cancel does 561 + 30. 591 plus thunderlords or whatever masteries she has.

most level 2 champions in top lane have around 700 hp at level 2 with the starting item. considering they are negating 30% of damage from their armor. Riven level 2 combo does about 410 damage at level 2 to champions. so a little over half their hp.

note this is practically ignoring attack speed as a stat for her. when Riven was first designed the animation canceling was not intended. it was a glitch and you can look back thread from where riven was released. it was not an intended mechanic for her to be able to do that.

thats literally just a Q cancel. am surprised how is it completely fine for a champion with 15 ad from runes at level 3-4 be able to chunk 50% of your hp without using any mana and still have an escape

such a frustrating champion.

the only thing holding riven back is people that make mistakes with her. but its okay lets have as many riven mains in challenger as possible.

There actually aren't very many riven mains in challenger, she has more counterpicks than most top lane champions so why not use one of them? Pantheon is literally perfect because he can 100-0 someone at level 3 and only use half his mana.

Let's be real, every jungler knows Pantheon will all in at 3, so you just do Red/camp/Blue then top for easy kill.

Meanwhile she's hard countered by Garen Gnar Illaoi Irelia Jayce Kayle Kennen Kled Olaf Pantheon Poppy Renekton

She counters Garen, Gnar is too weak rn but if he was stronger a good Gnar player would probably be a hard matchup, Illaoi is a skill matchup dependent on jgl, Irelia is a skill matchup in Irelia's favor, Kayle is a decent matchup, Olaf is a good matchup unless you get cheesed early.

Friend I don't know what kind of players you go against, but in gold and the challenger streams I watch it's pretty much the same unless someone is off-role.

I'm 100% positive that Viper doesn't think that Garen hard counters Riven.

He doesn't any more

Also remember Viper was rank 1 and in higher elo Garen's kit is too simple to be effective, but he can still be a pain in the ass with that silence and true damage if you're marked.

TEA Nietzsche 1 votes

Yeah but he also loses lane to Riven (starting in gold I'd estimate) only to be outscaled even more. Just go ahead and ask him or any high elo Riven streamer about the matchups. Some of these are correct others are off or even far off from being super hard.

Do you beat him with Fervor and just max stack it?

TEA Nietzsche 1 votes

Yeah FoB and always E his Q. Whenever his Q is down go ahead and Q combo him, bait his W then W to stop Garen and minion aggro and go out. While his Ult is down you can all in him with ult, especially with his Q down. E+W is also pretty useful against Garen although I prefer to only E and then engage with both Q and W up.

So short trades?

TEA Nietzsche 1 votes

When his Q is down I think you can just trade until he activates his W (which may be a short trade) and then disengage with using your W and 3rd q him when he chases into your minions. But generally you can do even long trades as your aaQ outdamages his E (just take care with minion aggro).

Overall this is an easy matchup so you don't have to play it perfectly aside from kinda respecting his 100-0 when he has everything up. But that shouldn't be too hard given how slow Garen is with everything that he does.

I'll try that out next time I fight one. Thanks fam.

she counters garen

what and as a gnar player gnar isnt weak the items he builds are just weak

TEA Nietzsche 1 votes

Which results in him being weak, there is a reason for his buffs next patch.

Also, Garen is just an easy matchup.

Play Riven and go ahead and all-in at lvl 2, if it worked you played against an idiot.

If the minions are equal and neither pushes both will have to lasthit at about the same time, so how do you want to get a full aaQ combo? If the wave pushes for Riven then it may be possible but your opponent will just give up 1 minion as the wave pushes anyways so he can afford it. If the wave pushes against Riven she can't combo cuz of minion aggro. Also, basically every single toplaner has a way to avoid the aaQ combo, be it a stun or mobility. That means she will not only have a hard time getting the first AA off but also likely miss another autoattack. And the damage of only 2 autoattacks and 3 Q's is just not worth all the minion aggro.

But as you are a toplane main I suggest you just go ahead and play some Riven, I am excited to see how that works for you.

riven sucks get over yourself. most people playing riven (especially right now with the new skins) dont have a clue what they are doing and fuck the most basic things up and can get punished really hard for it.

also if you are letting riven land all 3 q's,w and properly auto attack reset in lane playing darius you are trash.
