So what gets an S+?

Because I just went 12/2/20 with the most cs (198) in our game as Garen and only got S

Mind you this is all based on percentile compared to other Garen players. If you quantified these numbers, it would look like this:

D: 0-20% C: 21-40% B: 41-60% A: 61-80% S: 81-100%

Being an S rank means you performed better than 80+% of all Garen (top) players, including your previous plays, I believe. And yeah, it accounts for ward placement/destruction, kills, deaths, assists, and I believe destroyed towers as well. 7-10% of other players out there were performing better than you because they were doing something you weren't, probably the ward/turret thing.

using such a method, it would be slow, but wouldn't it eventually mean that the higher ranks become impossible to achieve?

I had a similar thought when I posted this the other day. If it's anything like the ranked system, Riot will purge it at the end of this season. It'd be interesting to see the average stats of each percentile group for each role-specific champion.

like how all elise might be D's, C's and S++ XD

Except no, because that's not how percentile works. Your performance is being gauged between other players, not a set standard. The nature of percentile means the five grades will have roughly equal amounts of players. If the average performance of those players is low, then it will be much easier to score a higher grade with that champion in that role. That's why it's a lot harder to get an S+ rank with someone like Katarina than it is with Nami or Lulu.

You didn't get an S+ because you didn't upgrade your trinket. I'm 100% 0% sure of this.

Fortiis2 votes

False. Received an S+ on Kalista, 13/1/2 with about 8-9 cs per minute, vision apparently not op in low level normals haha

canpan142 votes

Can I see the match where this happened? (Who downvoted me just asking to see his match haha)

Fortiis1 votes

Don't have the screen shot from endgame but this is from op.gg.

Nice game =) I still think upgrade the trinket boosts you. One of the Riot people said this. It probably just isn't necessary to get to S+. Still you should upgrade your trinket!

Fortiis1 votes

The funny part was that I was just about to back and grab a botrk and upgrade my trinket when they surrendered. I have a bad habit of forgetting about it and I actually thought about it that game.

canpan141 votes

I main support so I have nothing better to do than remind everyone in game to upgrade their trinkets haha.

Basically lol jk, supports win lanes, won lanes = won games

From my experience and knowledge about the Champ Mastery system, it takes into account as to who you are playing, which lane you are playing in and who you are playing in that list.

I am not sure, but I'm guessing that it might have something to do with you picking a standard top laner against a not so standard top.

Again, pure guessing.

I don't think it cares what lane you're in, play a Morgana Annie Fiddlesticks support and it will call you a mage.

FHMarshy2 votes

Oh on THAT point, I am very certain. http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/page/features/champion-mastery

Check the FAQ part under the title "What goes into the grading system? How do you calculate it?"

TheRakkun1 votes

Of course riot would say that their system works, but believe me it doesn't grade me as a support for morgana.

FHMarshy2 votes

How would you know that?

TheRakkun1 votes

Because people generally don't like to admit that they're wrong/their creation doesn't work as intended.

FHMarshy1 votes

As in, how did you know they graded you as a support for morgana? Or was that just your own speculation? lmfao

Morgana receives ranks as a "mage" because that's what her primary role is. Atm they only give champs titles based on their primary role. Note that role doesn't say anything about position. Morgana/annie/fiddle going bot are often still mages. The confusing thing here is that support is both a role and a position. Junglers can also have the supportive role, without going botlane. Similarly, mages and tanks can go into the support position.

Riot system does take into account which position you play in. Fan services can also use this information and leads to winrate ratios depending on lane which is more informative than just winrates in general.

Did you ward often. idk if that is coutned or not honestly. But i've gotten S+ a few times already.

Sukishoo1 votes

Take out those 2 deaths. Plus it's also calculated by how many wards were placed/destroyed, how much of your KDA contributed to the team.

Taredom1 votes

Had an S+ once, maybe twice, that explains why. I Jungle and almost always snag a sightstone and sweeper lens.

12/0/20 I suppose.

Critmaster Garen1 votes

i get S on him regularly, and S+ or S- occationally. i guess it has to do with objectives taken. besides your kills, did you participate in dragons, barons and took a lot of turrets and 1 or 2 inhibs?

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

warding and helping with objectives are factored in.

stealthfox941 votes

depends on how long the game was. if it was 40 minutes or longer 198 CS isn't all that great even if you did have the most CS, and that does play a factor. I did go 14/5/15 last night as jungle Fizz and got an A+ though.

Draven get's an S++ every single time. Because Draven.
