7th Unlockable Slot

Blue team is already having the full set of core items on most of their champions, while the enemy team is 1 or 2 core items behind on every champion. And then it happens. While Blue team's gold is now pretty much going to waste, Purple team is catching up minute by minute and slowly filling up all those 6 slots with some similarly strong items as their enemy has. In the next 10 minutes, as they finally finished their sets, they have no problem facing the Blue team in a battle and then in another 10 minutes, 55 minutes long battle turns in Purple team's favor as they victoriously finish the game...

So many times I've seen this happen. So many times I've been part of the Blue team.

The battle was long and exhausting, and when I could almost taste the victory, all has changed in one moment. We have lost.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who was bothered that he couldn't by more items late game, that could help him secure the victory. Everybody was. At least once...

And as I've been thinking about this problem, I came up with a solution:

7th unlockable slot.

Yes, for reasonable 850g players could unlock the 7th slot that would serve as a late game solution for our spare gold. The price would encourage players to unlock it only when it's necessary, as they would be paying for nothing more, then just a slot. Simple as that.

Support this thread if you think this would be a good idea for the game. Thank you!

Nope.

Stalling for a comeback is a valid strategy. If you can't finish the game with a 2 item advantage and your enemy team catches up you are to blame and your enemies deserve the comeback.

So.... What was blue team doing? Why weren't they pressing their advantage? They must have been doing something wrong to be losing from that point. If they had an advantage that massive, there isn't any other explanation. They misplayed.

If blue team was 1-2 items ahead, they should have finished the game. If they didn't, then they allowed the enemy to catch up despite being far behind. That is either poor play from the blue team or good play from the purple team. There is nothing wrong with this whatsoever. By the time everyone is getting six slotted the game has been going on for nearly 50 minutes. That is a lot of time for blue team to force a win.

What's the purpose of having a seventh item? It just delays the time at which people hit item thresholds, and it would force us to rebalance champions around the potential of having a seventh item. Powerful scaling champions would likely need to be toned down to make up for that.

To put this simply: There is already a massive amount of time available to end games before an enemy team becomes six slotted. You have a huge opportunity to end games if you are ahead. I see no value in increasing this window. What makes you think it is necessary?

can't the winning team also buy elixirs to improve their lead after finishing their build?

Na, but I would like a 7th slot for boots, there comes a point in a game where people sell boots for an offensive item and I don't really want to do the same, but I don't want to be down an item either. Riven with CDR boots? What is she gonna sell her boots for, chances are she planned her CDR perfectly and now can get a Zephyr and lose 5 CDR. Not at all what she wants.

Not to mention with the champion movement speed issue, having champions like Yi and Pantheon at 355 for seemingly no reason. I think it'd be really cool if Riot not only made a separate slot limited to boots, but also changed them up a bit, I hate reworks stuff cause they always end up nerfing it instead, but like what if in the very beginning you are unable to move until you buy boots for your class which would cost 0 gold and give a massive amount of movement speed 325-350.

However some characters would have 2 options for classes, for example, Kennen is a mage and an adc.

He can buy mage boots, gaining 335 movement speed and 10 AP. Or he can buy adc boots, gaining 325 movement speed and a passive that stacks up 5 movement speed for 3 seconds every time you hit a champion without getting hit, stacking up to maybe 345.

This would allow boots to go Class Boots - Speed upgrade - Speed and Stat upgrade - Enchant upgrade.

Idk maybe this is a bad idea, but I stand by my wanting separate space for boots idea.
