I thought this game was supposed to be about having fun...

And not about proving loyalty to a fictional character.

Riot nerfed your main to the point it's not fun playing it anymore? Then stop playing it. Riot took all the fun out of a champions kit? Then stop playing it. You see a new champion that looks really fun to play? Go ahead and give him a try, your champions are not your fucking wife, they won't get mad if you play with someone else.

You enjoy playing a certain champion no matter what shit riot does to it? Good for you, but don't act like you're some kind of a saint for doing so.

You have fun playing a certain champion? Play it, you don't? Then don't.

Maybe people derive some form of joy by associating themselves with certain traits...?

Nah.

This game hasn't been about having fun since Riot started purging derpy off-builds,

The game is not fun because feeders have too much control over the outcome of a game.

Talking from personal point of view, but might be the case for many others. A bit ranty with an extra dose of salt, so here it goes:

League is slowly losing it's appeal for me. Some meta reinforcements here, some gimmicks removal there, some completely random stuff. While one of those is not a big deal, they add up. Tying xp gain to jungle items, making it not worthy for laners to take an early camp and making almost impossible to jungle without it. Capping pots. Removing mana pots. Adding those plants.

Things have obviously changed. Some people liked the changes. Some didn't. I'm on the second group. I see each change as a blow to off meta picks and strategies, two things I've always enjoyed in any game I've ever played.

What kept me on the game were a two champions: Shaco, who I've picked up way back in season 2 when I was lv 19. I've played the shit out of him and only him way before I even knew what a main was. He's still my main. Singed, because he has the most unique play style in the game and is obnoxiously fun.

Those two champions have been my go to picks for any time that I'm stressed and need to relax, or got tilted and need to have actual fun during the games.

Making big changes for them is a huge blow to my enjoyment of the game, specially if the changes are huge ass nerfs under a different name, as it seems to be Shaco's case.

When champions are the thing that makes you enjoy the game rather than the game itself, big changes to them are a problem.

It may be just me, but if I were to bet I'd say a decent part of the community feels that way.

Champions can have personalities people like or relate to. They can have visual appearances people think are cool or "outrageous!!!" They can reflect a certain playstyle people prefer. That is part of the fun.

I'm an Ashe main. I love her personality. I love her outfits. I love what she stands for. I love the Scandinavian influence behind her lore. I love the way she is played. Ashe has been nerfed no less than 4 times in the last couple of months. And I still play her even though it's becoming more and more difficult to effectively do so. I will continue to play her until Riot decides to make her into something just utterly unrecognizable. There are some things you just can't take away, like her ult. Ashe Arrow has been Ashe Arrow since the beginning. Get rid of that and you'll get rid of the majority of Ashe mains. But otherwise, a lot of us will stick with her.

It may not make sense to you, but it's just like that china plate your grandmother used to own and no one uses anymore. It's just taking up space in your cabinet, but it is a reflection of values, personalities, and traditions in your family, and many important memories are associated with it.
