3 and 1/4 years later... (My story though League of Legends)
I finally made it.
My story: (Skip through to titles to get to ranked part if you want)
Joining league
Now here me out, I've been hrough a roller coaster I'm sure is not too unique, but here is my story. I started playing League towards the middle/end of 2013. At this time the pre-season for s4 had already began. I think maybe the worlds had began not long after this time, wasnt into the esports scene at this time, but just for timeframes sake. After a few patches I decided to read my first patch notes, in these notes there were some big changes, specifically to wards. I also believe there were some bush size reductions at this time and a few more changes that I cant specifically recall at this time. In this time my thoughts were like, "Wow! So many changes all at once! Is this how it's going to be every patch?" Later i'd realize that the answer was no, it was a changing time. A few months time passed and around the end of November that year I had hit level 30. (I seriously had nothing else better to do at this time so I grinded to level 30 pretty quick I think.) So of course, being the noob I was, I jumped straight into ranked. But that's for later.
The Age of the Noob
I seriously had no clue what to expect in this game besides I wanted to play something more than Minecraft (Remember this is 2013). SO i played the tutorial and they had me play Ashe. For some reason the Archer class has always been something of interest to me when I played games. In Skyrim 80% of my characters were archers. So after the tutorial I hopped into a few bot matches and got to really enjoy Ashe. So I played Ashe in whatever role I got. Everyone called lanes and I had no clue what "bot" meant at the time so I just listenned to where I should go. (No joke I didn't know league termanology until I looked up a video at level 15 or so) I played Ashe jungle (early on with no smite... yeah...) Ashe support, top, and middle. Not a clue on what I was doing. Eventually I started asking people in lobby and in game how to play. Later I'd realize how lucky I was to join when I did. Not a single person ever, EVER flamed me for being new. I'd look at a champion, say fiddlestciks, and in the lobby I'd ask where fiddle was good. They'd say jungle, I'd ask to jungle, and they'd let me. This went on until I was about level 20 or so. By then I had gotten the jist of everyone's placement on the map and had started getting more involved. It was also around this time that I got my first pentakill. I was playing Jinx around the start of S4 and it all fell into place. The enemies were spread out ranging from bot lane to mid and I was able to use my rockets to pick them off one by one and used the passice speed on her to catch the others. It was an exciting time for me. Since then I believe I have gotten one or two more. Then I hit level 30, and my adventure in the world of ranked began.
Season 4 Ranked, the summer of lag.
I hit level 30 and all the way through to April things were going fine. My placements came and went leaving me in Silver 4, I mained Hiemerdinger, Master Yi, and Teemo, (I though I was soooo good and these guys...) and things were going pretty swell. Then came summer. At this time I had moved my computer from the basement into my room (It was also the family computer up until this point) and in doing so I switched from ethernet to WiFi. I had no clue what this would do to me. In game I would get lag spikes shooting me up to 15000 ping. Thus began the most frustrating spree of league in my life. It would happen at least twice a game, usually at the worst times possible. Honestly, I'm surprised I didn't get banned I pissed so many people off because of my lag. This was all. Summer. Long. But by summers end I was able to find the issue, fix it, and continue on my way ending the season in Silver 3 I think. I had also began to main Jinx and Morgana instead.
Season 5 Ranked, introducing a friend.
By season 5 I had started to introduce a friend of mine to the game, started watchin the proffesional scene, and still played the game on my own. I was addicted to the game by this point getting at least 3 to 4 hours a day on the game. I was also playing twice as much because I was teaching my friend how to play the game so that he wasn't playing Ashe jungle with no smite. This season I really got to understand my play style aand found two new mains, Orianna and Rumble. I was drawn to Rumble because of the C9 Top Laner Balls. Orianna I just fell in love with because I meshed with her playstyle really well. I started the season in Bronze 3, ended in Silver 4. Things got tougher as the community expanded and also grew more intense.
Season 6. Dynamicly getting shat on.
Season 6 was a ride for me. I played over 100 matches with my friend this season, but ultimately was not able to aquire the championship skin I desired, I was stuck in Silver. As the season drew closer to a close I rushed to try to get to Gold, but ultimately failed. Towards the end of Summer I was in gold promos after a long slow climb up, but then I made. First match in, I lost. Then the second match came. A win. DFollowed by two more losses. This hurt me, but not too much. I had suffered many worse series before. However, what followed was the worst two weeks in my ranked history. It was loss after loss after loss only broken by the occasional win. I fell all the way back into the hole for me that was Silver 4. So I stopped playing for about a month, then decided I wasn't going to end the season in Silver 4 again. By the end of the season I had made it back into Silver 2.
Season 7, Gold at last
Oh boy, where so I begin with this season. Lets start with being placed into bronze 2. It took me virtually no time to get out of bronze again, and after I did I immediately left lwague for awhile. After coming back I was on a winning high. I jumped from Silver 5 to Silver 2 in no time flat. Then I seemed to come to a halt for awhile. good game followed by absoluetely terrible game and vise-versa. But I soon was able to make it back into Gold promos. And Deja Vu struck hard. It was 3 losses instantly. Again, this didn't really surprise me. Then I lost and lost and lost. Back into the bottom of Silver 2. This time, however, I wasn't going to let myself keep falling. I slowly rose back up and yesterday I finally made it back to promos. Today, I lsot once and won the next three. So there you have it, my journey through ranked in league after over 3 years.
What was your journey like? I honestly have no clue how to end this, I'm happy, had a great homemade meal tonight, and wish you all the best.
