Why is riot so knee-jerk when it comes to balance?

  1. Their solutions to assassins having too low of a win-rate was to buff them.

  2. Their solution to tanks not being fun to play was to buff them.

  3. Their solution to mages being not fun to play against bot lane was to do nothing about them because they weren't fun to play AS in mid.

  4. They're nerfing the jungle which is a step in the right direction, but they're changing the wrong aspects of it.

  5. Obligatory adc in 2k17 joke

  6. Ranked matchmaking is broken as I keep getting people solidly ranked a division above me. (I'm silver so I mostly play against gold and occasionally plat)

  7. Ranked games are decided mostly by the people Queueing with their friends and so its either Queue with my friends to climb or coin flip with the other people on my team. Reason I mention this is because I was disgustingly surprised with how easy it was to climb once I started duoing.

  8. Normal games are even more of a joke because if I don't queue with 3 or 4 people the other team is usually a 3 or 4 man of gold/plat +

  9. The game feels like it was designed around 10 bans and then we just never got them so now we just have to deal with broken champions.

  10. A lot of champions are being left in the dust because nobody cares about them (Aatrox, Karthus, Kassadin, Urgot, Shen, Teemo, Garen, twisted fate, to name a few) A little side note on number 10, I'm well aware that at the time of this post teemo has a 53% win-rate, but that's because the only people who really play teemo, almost exclusively play him. If everyone in this game one tricked the champion they play then we'd see a very different win-rate/ viability ranking for these niche picks. Evidence of this would be that Katarina would be considered a very good pick at the moment yet she has a 48% win-rate because a lot of people like to play her even though they have no idea what they're doing. Only reason I'm saying this is because someone is going to try and discredit this whole post because they don't agree with a single word on a single line.

  11. The only viable champions are the ones where their build order is geared towards whatever item happens to be broken this patch. And the champions that ARE viable are broken.

  12. Most of the these patches seemed like they were supposed to be temporary solutions that riot just forgot about.

Now I love this game to death, and its fun as hell, but it's becoming less and less fun as the patches go on. If I were to give any solution to what riot needs to understand is this one concept. Within a balance department you need to be one thing above everything else: DELIBERATE. Every patch, every buff/nerf, every change, rework you name it, has to have a point to it. You don't just change something because it's underused. Hell, you shouldn't buff something because its underpowered. Riot needs to achieve a greater level of knowledge of their game, on a Mechanical AND Intuitive level in order to understand what truly needs to be changed about the game. Another point would be to stop making so many temporary or half assed fixes. I'd make a list of those but this post is already getting pretty long.

If Riot's balance team hasn't already, then they should check out "Extra Credits" on youtube. I'm not trying to advertise for them but they can explain all of this much better than me. They even mention League of Legends as being a great game when it comes to balance....back in 2012. Here is a good video the explain what I'm undoubtedly failing to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e31OSVZF77w

Personally I'm much more interested in why I'm wrong rather than trying to fix the game. If I'm wrong please take the time to tell me why and if I make a good point tell me which one please, desperately trying to have fun and get better with this game. ^_^

a lot of these are decent points but normals arnt really a joke atm they are pretty fine. Normals should be a bit of a cluster fuck even if they are a bit too much of a clusterfuck atm (im a normals exclusive player).

also id say that riot never has and probably never will understand the jungle and why its so strong. they dont understand that the reason the jungle seems strong atm is because there are a lot of champions that are strong right now because they can be strong on low gold counts.

With normal I was more talking about personal experiences. (should have clarified) I still have screenshots of my team all silver and one unranked, vs their team all gold and one plat. (that one was ranked actually) I just seem to get these games too often. Everyone's experiences are going to be different when it comes to matchmaking, which is a problem in itself honestly. So 13. Inconsistent games. Its usually a stomp one way or another, not even including that the players on each team can be vary wildly in skill.

Because Riot is a company made up of mediocre talent and ability that has risen to their own level of incompetence. They exist in a vacuum with very little competition, which causes them to become deluded thinking their success is based on what they do, not just entering the market at just the right time. They are basically amateur hour, and will be put down someday when better games from better companies come along. Also, Marc Merrill is a huge tool bag, who doesn't understand fuckall about sponsorship's and money as it relates to LCS.
