What's the point of control wards canceling vision wards?

I don't really see the point of control wards disabling regular wards since I'm just going to destroy those wards once they are revealed.

Can someone explain the macroplay and vision power in this ability? Should I just not destroy the ward? Because from my understanding, disabling the ward gives the impression that the ward isn't their for the laner, rather than making the laner think the ward is functioning fine but in reality it isn't (kinda like a camera loop in heist films). Does it actually do that and I'm just blind?

its so that you control the vision in a given area.

If I have a control ward in the baron pit or dragon pit and you plot a ward over the wall, you can't see us doing the objective and we don't have to waste time killing your ward just yet while we take it.

The fact that they now deny the function of wards in an area is HUGE, especially since it has a short delay, so people will often not notice their wards aren't giving them vision until it is too late.

You could have some insane ambushes in bushes with that shit.

But does the vision denial look like a black spot on the map or does it look like nothing is happening on the map?

Like, if I place a ward in the dragon pit that has a control ward, is the dragon pit still blacked out or is it clear like no one is in there?

its as if the ward itself stopped working and any vision it would have provided is no longer being provided. so yes, fog of war is in effect while the vision ward is placed.

So effectively this tells my opponent that I placed a control ward there.

Yes. The key is generally to place it in smart locations where they don't have easy access to clearing them.

It's essentially blacked out, although they have vision of the control ward disabling their ward.

Dragon/baron are useful cases, but even regular brush wards. Plenty of times in bot lane where I have a control ward in blue side tribush, and the enemy tries to place a ward in the tribush. It gets disabled, and then they frequently tempted to try to clear the control ward, but unlike with pink wards, their ward in the brush doesn't actually still reveal the brush and surrounding area. Theres been plenty of occasions where people will be trying to clear the control ward, and have no idea the the jungler walked into the bush and they're about to die, where in the old system if you saw the jg coming you'd back off and clear it later.

Oh ok. So basically it sets up easier traps for those who want to fix the problem instead of tricking them to thinking there is no problem in the first place.

Yeah the control wards are for controlling vision in an area you basically already control, rather than necessarily just for clearing out enemy wards.

If you want advanced mind games you could intentionally not clear a disabled ward, but usually people will clear them. The enemy team (if they're paying attention) will still know theres a control ward there, but now they need to either facecheck the brush (probably dieing) to get vision of the control ward again, or use up another ward which may or may not be cleared before they can clear it.

Completely poops on those silly low elo supports who don't have a sightstone, and it's pretty effective even against those with them.

pretty sure the idea is so that the enemies won't see you while you are clearing or moving past the ward. Changing vision wards to control wards also finally removed that annoying visible yet invisible ward bug where you could sneak a green ward within a pink's radius and not have it revealed (happened multiple times in lcs games at Baron pit).

Ok, so it does work like a camera loop you see in infiltration films?

In that case, should I just not destroy the vision ward?

I'm pretty sure it fades to black. You could always load into a custom game vs a friend to check. If you don't clear the sight ward/trinket I think the control ward will auto-reveal that it's jamming something if an enemy gets in range again.

Try warding a baron or a dragon with one of those in the pit... You'll see why... Or rather you won't see anything...

On the map, is the warded area blacked out or not?

The purpose is so when your team is doing Baron / Dragon you can plop one down to stop enemy ward vision and not have to stop and clear them like you did with pink wards. All the control ward does is basically make the vision on regular wards not function at all.
