The game reached a point where Tanks and defensive playstyles don't fit in anymore.

And it's not their problem, it's the 'damage above all else' mentality's fault. I see a future, not so distant, where all tanks become bruisers, champions oriented towards damage. There'll be no defensive champions anymore. It's a sad reality to imagine.

It's just a matter of time before they inject more damage into Ornn, Sejuani, Zac, etc. No wonder why Courage of the Colossus, a pure defensive resolve keystone got reworked into Aftershock, a damage keystone with a defense (that can be ignored by penetration and true damage) buff.

While I agree that tanking is more difficult, and more based on mobility and cc now that raw defense, I disagree on their "place." Most have kits now that actually can output damage and are in fact quite tanky early game. It's Mid/Late game that they begin to fall apart. But early game, most are dominant to all matchups if played right.

Early game on Leona, I'm tanky enough to go 5/0 solo..... without an adc ..... vs an adc and her support..... in some matchups. In other matchups, Leona's fine with an adc.

And late game..... even if TEAM PLAY starts to shred my Leona...... I can still 1v1 MissFortune with Leona, and there isn't a thing she can do about it.

Then there are gold funded tanks like Malphite and Sion. Both perform well even if the other team does have true damage/armor pen. Built in shields + dueling skills which just destroy mobility options and do a huge chunk of burst.... make dueling them just asking to die.

League of Schrödinger, were the game is both "not a place for tanks anymore" and "OMG A TANK FESTIVAL RIOT PLS" (heard them both over and over and OVER since...forever).

Side note: making this kind of prediction during the pre season is really pointless.
