Having 1000 true damage on my death recap has become all too common when dying to a yi. Unless i'm playing as a squishy, in which case its more like 500-600 because he only had to hit me 3 times.

Shahamut14 votes

how does Yi deal 500-600 true damage in 3 hits :P

hint, he doesnt :P

Baron of Bread10 votes

If he had about a 1000 AD he could.

Yi usually brings Red Smite which can do a substantial amount of true damage to go along with his ~100 per auto if he has about 300 AD.

Spoofghoul6 votes

don't forget devourer and double strike

and the occasional redbuff

yi doesnt need 1000 ad to deal such amounts of true damage hell he doesn't even need 300 he can do as much with less then 200 ad

Shahamut6 votes

Yi's passive grants true damage at max rank equal to 30+20%AD if he has 300 AD, thats 90 true damage.

If he decides to max E first lvl9 (almost never happens). With just the two items in question (assuming he has them both at level 9 and is somehow already sated a.k.a. fed as heck) With rage blade at max stacks his total AD would be 80+30+24=134 (lets say +15 because he is running AD quints and Reds) for a grand total of 149 AD. Thats about 60 True damage per strike. Even if you are counting the multiple procs for your "in 3 hits" 60*6 is still only 360, a long way from 500-600. AND if he is building just those two items and going full tank, he is only going to get an additional 31 AD from levels. Thats a dead even 180. So now we are up to 66 true damage per strike.

All that to say: Devourer+Rageblade+Yi does NOT equal 500-600 true damage in 3 strikes. its Almost 1/2 that amount if you include the double strikes from Devourer.

i get what youre saying... you did the math and all... but in-game its definately 500-600 true damage. trust me, i heard it in a different thread. so i would know.

"trust me, i heard it in a different thread. so i would know." Are you trying to be sarcastic right now? Please tell me you're not serious.

I, uh.. I think he is. I think. I mean, there's no other way.

Math > Often exaggerated anecdotal Boards evidence.

There have been many times when I look at a death recap after dying to a Yi in 4 autos as Riven (about 2500 HP late game so take note) and the true damage ranges from around 600-1000. You can't back it up with the maths when you don't even know how the game works. I can SEE the death recap and it CLEARLY says 600-1000. Like Kog'Maw's puking, it is disgusting! Rains down damage faster than item 3901 !

Baron of Bread1 votes

If he builds a decent amount of AD and gets you with Red Smite then those numbers are possible. Shahamut was mostly talking about tank Yi builds where he doesn't have much AD.

Leanus Crain1 votes

Actually it's his E active and i've never seen it do that much, believe the active scaling is closer to .25? Most of the true damage is from red buff. People just QQ everytime they get melted because they don't realize how much hybrid damage Yi has with rageblade.

Shahamut1 votes

Good catch. I meant to say his e. I think I was going to originally explain the whole skill, which starts with the passive 10% ad, but decided it want necessary. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm going to edit it.

Leanus Crain2 votes

Yeah I'm a disgusting MasterYi main so I know what I talk about. The main problem is that people think that some of his abilities do true damage when it could be a %hp item (item 3153 another problem people have is that some items on AA champs are a bit iffy on balance (item 3124 ,item 3931) And since you seem quite.. passionate about your hate of Yi here are some tips from me for when he does snowball.

Don't let him stack rageblade/fervor before the fight kill him fast because most Yi just go in when they feel like it (myself included) CC him when he does go in and wait for alpha strike for any abilities he can dodge (Amumu ult is a big one) as for junglers that make me want to kill everyone, Vi because she has some of the best early dueling abilities if done right and has amazing single target lockdown. Jax is another one because he counters AA champs better than Teemo in my opinion because he trades global taunt for AoE stun. Shen Is naturally the top lane (Or jungle/support if you're into that stuff) and if you are support then Taric is amazing or Nautilus/Thresh if he doesn't alpha dodge the grabs.

Shahamut1 votes

Not my thread, def no hate of Yi here. Im actually one of the people saying that this qq thread is rediculous :P

To do 100 true damage per Auto you need to have 350 AD... you can't get 350 AD if you don't build AD... To get 350 AD you need to have 207 bonus AD, which means, you need to build a lot of AD and have AD in runes and masteries. This means you have to build really aggressively.

The thing is, jungle Yi builds dev. After his Dev gets sated the real problem emerges. Sated yi with about 200 AD and enough attackspeed will do enough true damage in 5 seconds that will melt anyone

Baron of Bread3 votes

If you give Yi 5 seconds to attack someone he deserves to kill them.

If he had about a 1000 AD he could.

Literally impossible. As a matter of fact the only champion I believe can even get close to that ATM is Jhin.

This plus Rageblade is insane. Add in the fact that its hard to CC him with his ult on and the fact that he can lifesteals from alpha strike makes it really fun to kill a yi.

Almost kill him? Na man he just Alpha striked and came back out with 85% more health. enjoy.

Sightless663 votes

Master yi can not lifesteal from alpha strike. He can crit on it, but otherwuse it is treated exactly the same as all other abilities. It can use spell vamp, not lifesteal.

I guarantee you, he is not going into alpha strike and healing from it. Nothing in the ability allows for that.

FiniteParadox222 votes

Well assuming he doesn't have deaths dance (more so likely than Gunblade which would also heal him) or he could also have red pot

64% attack speed is nice, and the true damage scales with ad. I agree with you though.

The true damage has always been Yi's big thing. He is supposed to be able to tear anything to shreds in moments, the trade off being that he is supposed to be able to be ripped apart in similar amounts of time if he can't use his active defenses (or doesn't use them well).

I do not remember Yi dealing true damage before rework, what do you mean with "has always been"? Was there a time in beta where he also did true damage?

Baron of Bread8 votes

Let me rephrase that then.

The true damage has been Yi's thing for several years.

PROJECT Katarìna5 votes

His trade off is that he provide no cc or utility for his team

Knoyle3 votes

It's almost like Yi is supposed to be an Assassin. You know. That class of champion that usually doesn't carry much or any actual CC at all?

Ekko

The Rewritten2 votes

I play Ekko a lot. I think he trades quite a lot by being an assassin with CC.

His main burst (R) is difficult to position, the CC itself (W) is on a fair cooldown with a 3 second delay, with the condition that both you and the enemy are inside it when it goes off. If you miss the W, he can get shredded really, really easily, and his only escapes are to either finish his burst combo and run out (Passive, typically requires two basic attacks) or use his ultimate (often wasting his biggest burst and heal).

But that said, yes, Knoyle is right. Usually =/= always.

yi build for new meta MasterYi -item 1415 item 3124 item 3748 item 3053 item 3009 item 3742 or item 3156 pretty much makes you able to 1v5

Yimmortal1 votes

Lets see.... that build you mentioned costs 15k gold to complete. If you let yi get that fed or let the game drag on that long you deserve to lose. Same goes to any late game powerhouses such as Nasus, Tryndamere, etc.

NsEternal1 votes

i mean its the build to shoot for, granted now adays having 3 items is "full build" so take it as you will. Granted you are correct in that fact that yi shouldnt ever get this strong and if you do you lose, but ya know games can go long enough for him to get this strong

Provengreil1 votes

sated red smite, rageblade, and depending on enemy comp either steraks or maw is enough, then you stomp so hard you can't NOT get the rest unless you just end the game. Add literally any sort of defense, a shield from even just a sona, and it's gg.

Isn't that the point? True damage counters armor/MR/%damage reduction

charcharmunro22 votes

The problem, of course, is that Yi can also build tanky and still put out a frankly absurd amount of true damage for how tanky he is.

Bouncemaster Zac1 votes

{quoted}

Actually, it doesn't counter %damage reduction since nonspecific damage reduction reduces all damage, true damage included.

The Governer7 votes

Wrong.

Read the ability details of his ultimate: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Alistar#Unbreakable_Will .

No damage reduction abilities can reduce true damage.

The Deckowner1 votes

gragas w states "reduce all damage taken by 10%"

Anidan2 votes

Won't apply to True Damage. That's the nature of True Damage.

The Deckowner1 votes

but alistar's ult toolkit saids "reduce all incoming physical and magic damage by 70%" while gragas's w is "all incoming damage", no difference? come on rito.

Anidan2 votes

It's less in the direct phrasing of the ability and more in the fine print of the ability due to the nature of True Damage.

"reduces all incoming damage (true damage need not apply)"

True damage is the counter to resistance and damage reduction stacking.

The Governer1 votes
DarthSpectrum5 votes

Many people don't realize this, but 20% of Yi's total damage is true damage. That is roughly the same amount as Fiora and Vayne.

It is easy to spot the true damage of Fiora and Vayne because they do it in chunks while Yi deals a bit of true damage per auto attack. Yi is just as good at shredding tanks as Fiora and Vayne, he might even be better since his total damage output is greater than both Fiora's and Vayne's.

Maikal3 votes

So can vayne and Irelia? Or anything with true damage? That's how true damage works. That was intended to be a weakness of Alistar's.

SleepyLionCub2 votes

Doesnt alistar ult reduce true damage too though?

Sona Ping9 votes

No, because Riot.
