Idea for Ranked Teambuilder: "Do NOT Ban Requests"

In a recent Reddit thread, it was suggested that in the upcoming Ranked Teambuilder, players should be able to "suggest bans" and have these suggested bans appear next to their summoner icon during champion select. However, RiotLyte responded that they had tested this, and captains had a strong tendency to ignore these suggested bans, so that this feature tended only to lead to more "hard feelings."

Here's another idea: I think a lot of us know how frustrating it can be when your captain bans out one of your champions. Instead of displaying champions to ban, what about displaying champions not to ban? Even if your captain already has their bans in mind, I imagine most people (at least, most people who were paying attention), would have no problem with saying, "Hey, this guy plays Sejuani; maybe I shouldn't ban Sej (especially on blue side)." I think the only trick would be to make it very clear that what's displaying are people's champion pools rather than suggested bans.

Just like the Reddit suggestion, also this one is useless... since you can TYPE what champions you prefer not to be banned or to be banned in the first place.

People really need to stop being afk and lazy during champ select.

I think this would streamline the process since 1. You wouldn't have to type and 2. Champion icons are more quickly recognized than a list of names (some people may not even read the list). It probably is too complicated for normal draft (since people have to decide on roles in that setting), but for ranked teambuilder I think it makes sense. And streamlining the process could be very valuable given the short time window before you have to start making bans.

I'd enjoy that, maybe then I'd get to play Vi again.

The problem behind it though, how often have you been in lobby and someone says "Don't ban Trynd"? So the captain bans Tryndamere anyway, saying "I wont let you AFK split all game play an engage top." That scenario becomes easier and potentially more likely, causing distrust between the Tryndamere player and the first pick. And then dodges become more likely, because I sure as hell I wouldn't want to play with someone who purposely banned against his own team.

If Riot could find a way to implement either suggested bans, or suggested "not bans," while still encouraging teamwork, I'd support either approach 100%.

I guess my thought is that troll/bully potential will probably exist no matter what the format. It would probably be a good idea to make this feature optimal, so if you had a rare pick that you weren't concerned about getting banned (but were concerned about your captain banning to force you off it), you wouldn't have to reveal it. At any rate, I think most captains (by which I mean significantly more than 50%, but significantly less than 100%) are reasonable people, so this might help people get the champions they like a little more often.

You're absolutely right. If someone's gonna be a dick to their team, implementing a new feature won't change that. And I'd love to see this feature happen, if possible

I'm game for that, back when I had a very shallow mid lane pool I actually had all 4 of my strong champions banned, 3 of them on my team's side because they didn't want to risk the enemy getting any of them. Which I could understand if we didn't have first pick...

How about an alternative where you suggest bans during Teambuilder before getting into champ select or even queing so that way when loaded up into champ select it's already there. For instance I prefer playing champion x,y,z so when selecting team builder and my role I select also from the drop down menu the champs I'd like to play then when the game loads up each eprson portrait has besides it the champs they want to play in no particular order.

To keep it simple there'd be a max of 3 champions you could choose you'd like not to be banned so that way it doesn't get too extreme but at the same time gives some input especially for when someone loads more slowly for whatever reason.

I had to read your post a couple times, but I think that what you're suggesting is basically what I had in mind.

Why can't they just have everyone pick their roles, and only their roles, proceed normal team builder process, find another captain with a team ready, then start banning phase and the choosing of the champions

That's more or less what the plan is for Ranked Teambuilder. It's apparently a work in progress.
