Something A LOT of people forget when talking about balance
Let's take two examples of what I just read on another post.
Shaco :
Play Rate: anywhere from 3.6-1.7% Ban Rate: 6.4% Winrate: anywhere from 55-65% more realistically 55%. ( Hard to gauge cause of his playrate %)
Rengar:
Play Rate: Anywhere from 2.8-1.6% Ban Rate: 50% Winrate: Anywhere from 35-65% More realistically around 42% ( Hard to gauge cause of his playrate %)
So let's examine these numbers carefully.
Both: Playrate about the same, a 0.8% difference at the highest rate Ban rate: Not even close. Rengar holds almost a 45% more ban-rate over Shaco Winrate: Shaco realistically win's a way higher % of his games than Rengar, while having a practically identical play rate %
So what have we learned. Well for one Ban Rate could be holding Rengar back in terms of win pct% it could also be holding him up though too. But my analysis is that everyone thinks Rengar is so broken and OP that the next time he's not banned, the next John Doe who has no idea how to play him will utterly fail and just tank his win pct, this could be happening a lot more than you think. On the flip side maybe mostly only the people that main him play him when he isn't banned so that could bring his win % up. But the contrary seems to be what's happening since he has such a low playrate - winrate. On the other side we have Shaco with a 3.6-1.7% winrate with almost a 56 win pct%, and a low ban rate. This is mostly people that main him who are playing him since it's not like people are shying away from playing him cause he's always banned. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Hell, if I mained a champion and was only able to achieve a 50% winrate on him, I would dump that champ immediately.
So yes Shaco is strong in the right hands, and Rengar seems to be the victim of "oh insert champion here is OP" so i'm going to instalock him next time he isn't banned and utterly fail on him syndrome.
So yeah I'm kinda on the side of Rengar players with these latest nerfs. Why nerf a champion when you don't even have statistics to prove that he's OP? Some days he might have a 65% winrate with a 0.5% playrate, but that doesn't make him OP.
I'll admit Rengar wasn't banned in a couple of my games so I checked him out, lost the first one, won the second one with a negative K/D/A. Rengar isn't as easy as people think he is when you are against good enemy teams that know how to use their CC, who to use it on and when. Rengar get's so easily shut down compared to Shaco it's kind of embarassing that people are complaining about Shaco nerfs.
TL;DR Rengar is suffering from the Zed/OP champ syndrome in which everyone doesn't want to play against him because he is an annoying champ to deal with, and when he isn't banned everyone plays him thinking he's a free win until they lose and embarass themselves. Also in some cases Ban rate doesn't say everything. It could just mean that champion is annoying but not necessarily OP. I ban Lux sometimes because of this reason.
Curious to see how people will react to this post, on both sides.
