Balancing but without numbers

Instead of always trying to adjust the numbers of abilities that almost always breaks champs, why not try to adjust the size or hitboxes of abilities? I mean its clearly possible with kayn during the odyssey event. I mean lets say Brand's W is too weak and doesnt do enough damage, then just make the W's size bigger so its easier to hit and more damage can be dealt over a wider area. I mean thats not the best example, but I think that changing how big some abilities are would be a decent way to balance some champs

Because changes like that have massive impact.

Riot added 25 range to Blitz's Q and he jumped 5% winrate overnight.

Right, but lets say they buff an ability like Brand's circle or whatever, and that makes it too strong, they could keep the damage and make the circle a bit smaller or something to make it more skill intensive but keep the dmg. Or with panth's ult, they could make it larger and easier to hit etc etc. All im saying is, for some champs these kinds of changes would be a different way to balance. Blitz's range was a big buff but that's a fast moving team fight winner right there. Im talking about stuff with more delay etc. Idk, just changing the ability sized on different champs might be a good way to balance the game in specific situations.

Those type of changes can break a champion in both ways. They could be rendered completely useless or be broken beyond belief. Not to mention that now you have everyone thinking that an ability is supposed to behave a certain way but nope suddenly the ability doesn't work that way anymore! It would lead to stupid amounts of frustration. There is a reason those type of changes aren't done in a regular basis

They've been doing that a fair amount lately actually. Lee Sin was practically resurrected when his Q got more range, same with blitz. It's somewhat unpredictable though, since champions that get this sort of change get a spike in win rate before everyone can adjust to playing against it.
