Didn't kogmaw's W not have a mana cost before he got reworked?

title^

Also does anyone have any idea what to build on him? Triforce? Botrk? essense reaver? IE?

Edit:

Ive had some sucess with IE+runans as first items

EDIT EDIT : it was pure luck, IE doesn't seem like a good rush item.

item 3078 was great and would be better now unless the changes to his ult mana costs make it too expensive to proc item 3057 often enough.

Dracocrash1 votes

Thats what I was wondering too

You can still AA -> W -> AA -> Q -> AA and then start ulting if you need to.

Triforce wasn't only good for sheen on old Kog, it also helped him chase really really well.

ofart4 votes

It also started at 6% level 1. AP Kog and ADC Kog are both pretty mediocre now imo. He should at least have some higher AP ratios.

Cipse6 votes

No, I'm very sure that it was 2%/3%/4%/5%/6% as it is now. Also, apart from the ult, I'm also sure that there are no changes to the AP ratios.

That being said, I don't mind too much that the ult damage mechanics are changed. But I really want to have the stack cooldown reduced, although not below what it was before (6 seconds, I think).

Dracocrash2 votes

My memory is hazy, but i rememebr from maxing W all you got was an increase in range back then..

Auz the Ripper3 votes

nah, you got some more damage too. his W got completely reverted except for the mana cost

Looking at the revision history on Kog on the wikia, his W did in fact have damage scaling with level:

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Kog%27Maw?oldid=2297086

(that is from September 27, 2015, as you can see at the top under the page name).

2/3/4/5/6%

Rewerted and nerfed. That's why we love Riot <3

Meanwhile, lee buffs, am I rite?

warpenguin5553 votes

Yeah it was free. Is it not now?

Dracocrash3 votes

no its not. it costs 40 mana.

Wow riot. Cmon. Thanks I haven't got on league yet today

item 3078 item 3006 item 3153 item 3085 item 3036 item 3031 , replace boots late game for item 3046

tried many builds. This is the best for now. The tri force is even stronger than before thanks to the extra cdr and atk speed, you can keep W 2/3 of the teamfight.

Edit:if you want a explanation on why and all that stuff ask me. Right now i am busy and i have no time to do that and probably won't remember it unless someone replies to this

Dracocrash1 votes

I have yet to try the new triforce.

But why is botrk core? honestly it is quite a shady item and I can only see myself getting it against an enemy team infested with the likes of mundo and sion.

MargaretThatcher1 votes

botrk is core due to the % dmg hp AND the active, which lets kog maw do something useful with his life when he has W on CD without dying. The main reason to pick botrk is that you get hybrid % dmg on each auto with W and runaan, you get some lifesteal, atk speed and the active. That combined with the tri force movespeed and hp makes kog very fast and hard to kill. Many people think botrk is bad,for me is completely underrated, specially at kog maw. The stats are good, but mainly the active makes kog un-diveable as long as he isnt ignored by his whole team. Also the active helps running or chasing mid game other adc's since you can start wrecking them.

Dracocrash1 votes

IMO it wont work because building 2 expensive items back to back will put you massively behind.

Maybe Botrk as a 3rd item (swappable with scimtar) would be more appropriate?

MargaretThatcher1 votes

Kog maw needs atk speed and some self peel which botrk provides. You say botrk is expensive and up, but scimitarra is even more expensive and has less windows where is useful than the botrk.

Why do people put "title^" as the first thing in their post? Like yeah, I read the title. Obviously.

I purposely did that just to specifically annoy you.

On hit Kog: item 3071 item 3091 item 3153 item 3085 item 3025 item 3124

Faie1 votes

There is nothing good about on-hit Kog anymore, as his auto attacks are the same as everyone else.

ViciousSummoner1 votes

Against super tanky line ups on-hit is a bit better than flat damage.

Faie1 votes

On-hit will always be less damage than a crit based build. This is also considering that most on-hit damage is magic damage, which isn't affected by last whisper. On-hit by design can never outdamage a full build crit ADC.

ViciousSummoner1 votes

Just depends on the situation. Not saying that you should always play on-hit Kog. Still I'd rather take on-hit shredder over crit vs a tanky/bulky team.

attack speed is still really strong on him. might actually still be worth to go full attack speed/on hit.

Dracocrash3 votes

I think onhit will be bad compared to other builds tho..

Auz the Ripper1 votes

especially with how his new ult scales with bonus AD

What Is Smite2 votes

If all fails then you could possibly copy/pasta ezreal's blue build , rush tear and sheen build botrk finish muramana and IBG. Kog is a low mobility champ so you have to either give him enough MS that he can keep-up/kite for a long time or bulky enough so that he doesn't die in about 2 seconds

Dracocrash6 votes

But then it would just be better to play ezreal...?

I don't think tear will work on kog cause he really cant spam spells cause his cd's are high and his ult starts costing wayy to much mana after a few casts. Also he doesn't have the base damage or safety to compensate for getting a tear, unlike ezreal.

It Hertz When IP3 votes

New Tear's 15% mana cost reduction might actually even the cost-benefit ratio here, though.

Muramana + essence reaver runaan's seems like a good idea. Have no idea how it will actually work out though.

Agree completely, with how his new ult works you should never ever be spamming that (unless they are low trying to get away) because it does damage based off missing health. I don't think tear will be good on Kog at all either because the ramped mana cost on his ult goes up insanely, and his other abilities are pretty costly already if you spam them even with a tear.

Kog's old niche has always been crit you from far away while shredding your health REALLY hard REALLY fast.

Before the rework my standard build on kog was item 3006 item 3153 item 3085 item 3022 item 3091 item 3071. It was surprisingly effective. Though it probably isn't a good idea anymore with the item 3153 nerfs and the utter destruction of a good attack speed item that wasn't a crit slave coughitem 3085cough

Could always get smite and madred's.

Spaceman5pff1 votes

Why not just go back to the good old build from pre-rework. KogMaw item 3078 item 3153 item 3006 item 3026

Maybe top it off with item 3036 / item 3033 and an item 3031

For reference, old kog went Trinity and Blade, then just kinda build item 3031 bc it was the best dps multiplier at the time. I am confident that item 3078 item 3153 will be the ideal rush again, but I am not 100% about the rest.

Dracocrash1 votes

GA IS FOR PUSSSIEES

5x IE OR AFK!

RavenMagus1 votes

Was that before Triforce's rework to be more attackspeed and less crit? IE might need some reevaluation now.

Spaceman5pff1 votes

There is a good chance IE might not be good.

But I am a believer in item 3078 item 3153 still being core on him. Kog never really loved crit before his rework, why should that change now? He only used to build it bc it happened to be on item 3078 and then item 3031 was only bc it was strictly the best damage amp on the market

WarlockLaw1 votes

I'm guessing his build is going to return to a more normal adc/crit focused build. IE will definitely be in the build, but I would guess A item 3153 rush into either item 3031 or item 3085 followed by the other. Idk if he'll get more attack speed than that or go into things like item 3508/item 3139/item 3036

Dolasaur1 votes

He has practically no ability AD scaling and is one of the few ADCs with exceptionally strong ability AS scaling. Against a squishier team I could see him getting a second full AD item (particularly if he needs the Scimitar cleanse), but at least historically he's usually gone for more AS instead.

Since so much of his damage is magic damage (usually around 50% of his damage to champs), I'm guessing LW items will be pretty weak buys in most games, particularly because of the change from last season to only affect bonus armor.

WarlockLaw1 votes

Ever since BotrK was switched to magic damage, Kog has always dealt mostly physical damage, and I'm 90% positive his pre-marksman update build had an IE. I'm positive he will still build it, but he'll like want more attack speed than somebody like Lucian. That said, Lord Dominik's would be for when he's up against several tanks. I still think his core will be BotrK, IE and Runaans, the rest becomes situational.

Dolasaur1 votes

Super late, but.. http://champion.gg/champion/KogMaw/ADC. Right now, out of 100%, his magic damage is 38% and his physical is 50% (for post-rework).

Right before the update, his build path was usually TF -> BotRK, and I think that had started in like mid season 4 or so. I think now that Runaan's has crit on it, it's a much better buy for him than it was a year ago. But we'll have to wait a couple months until he stabilizes, since I'm guessing Riot's going to buff him a little bit.

Pierce The Veal1 votes

You either rushed botrk or triforce. I guess you could now also take smite and get madred's.

Or went AP.

FallenSeruvim1 votes

Also the loss of crit on Triforce is something to factor in, I can see Kog needing some compensation for the revert.
