Then people build tank on her and their healing ends up being shit.

item 3060 and item 3211 are the only defense items worth getting on her.

item 3083 is horrible on her, you waste the health (it's only other stat), so it's horribly inefficient in both gold and slot.

im not saying youre supposed to build tank on her. im saying warmorgs goes well with her as her 1 defensive item. not because of the health it grants, but because of the regeneration, which also scales off max health.

if you cant avoid taking damage from the heal, you can try to increase your passive regeneration as much as possible, so you dont run out of health so fast. and warmorgs is simply the most effective item for that purpose.

and the health still helps her for defense when shes cornered by another champion, or hit by random aoe.

but if you position yourself well, youre going to regenerate a lot of health and get some extra heals out of the item.

its like a garen passive in item form, that doesnt deactivate when she heals. thats why it works pretty well on her in combination with a standart support build.

FantasySniper2 votes

You're not supposed to buy any defensive items if you can help it.

A Banner still gives AP and team support (along with the awesome active that synergizes with her perfectly), Spectre's Cowl can either give yourself increased healing (as in - more health for your teammates) or save you from a spell when upgraded. These are very important things to have as a vulnerable healer.

Warmog's passive doesn't make up for the slot+gold, and depends upon the fact that you're not dealing ANY damage in teamfights. Then you're wasting 100% of Starcall's utility. So you're not only down a slot+gold, you're wasting an entire ability.

tbh, i dont really care what were supposed to do.

i do whats effective, and from experience, just building warmorgs into a standart support build is pretty effective in drawn out fights and siege situations. youre constanly regenerating a good amount of health which allows you to heal more often without getting low on health yourself.

Soraka's that build Warmogs have a significantly higher winrate.

Yes the added health reduces the effective healing on Q, but on the flipside you can heal even when you have no target for Q. Also it makes you harder to burst so you actually get the chance to throw a Q.

Just to show how effective it is: if you take no damage, Warmogs gives you 3,6 heals per minute.

I would like to ask if replacing Warmog with item 3065 is effective. Spirit Visage does not regenerate as much health as Warmogs. On the other hand however, it boosts Soraka's health regeneration and stack with other possible health regeneration items that she buys, such as Talisman of the Ascension. Also, thanks to the recent buffs, it can also increase the healing on teammates, making it a more valuable item.

Duke Anax1 votes

Keep in mind that health regen items only boost regeneration. But since Soraka has almost no health regenration to begin with, Spirit Visage and other items do almost nothing.

That's why Warmogs is so desirable, it has % max health regeneration.

Also the passive is weird, the way it's worded it looks like it should boost her heal, but according to the patch notes it now works on heals from allies,l as if that were new. But that is what it already did when it said "selfheal" meaning heals on yourself. So apparently all they did was change the tooltip to be more confusing.

MagicalGirlRosel5 votes

The buff is that her healing is increased on someone else that has built Sprit Visage...

It doesn't increase how much you heal others. It increases how much others heal you.

If Soraka with Spirit Visage heals an ally, nothing changes. If an ally with Spirit Visage is healed by Soraka, that heal is increased by 20%

You're not supposed to buy any defensive items if you can help it.

That's not exactly true. When they were close to releasing the rework, Soraka was originally going to have this passive "A % of Sorakas Armor and MR is converted to AP", so they heavily encouraged buying resists, guardian angel was going to be a core item, however players didn't like this passive, so they removed it. But they still encourage buying resists.

Playing Soraka with full AP and no defensive items means your heals are going to be overwhelming, but that's a very dangerous game. Anyone who knows Soraka should know that she has to be focused first in teamfights, so without resists you are going to get blown up by anyone with super long range (xerath, ziggs, lux, kog) or assasins (rengar, talon, kha'zix)

Warmogs isn't the perfect item for Soraka, but it's definitely useful in certain situations (granted it is gold inefficient).

BastionKross4 votes

Actually Riot introduced that passive to actually discourage people from building resists on her, just as her %HP costs meant to discourage people from building HP on her. One of the goals of the Soraka rework was to specifically try it's hardest to kill off any Raka build that used more than one tank item by punishing players who built them. Everyone remembered the horror of a solo-lane tankraka. Not only was she about as difficult to push out of lane as a Yorick, but she was fully capable of tanking three or four enemy champions in a teamfight better than a DrMundo thanks to her heals and bonus resists.

StoryDuck2 votes

Could you explain to me how it discourages players to build MR and Armor on raka when she was getting +20% AP from them?

BastionKross8 votes

Because it's not like Galio or Vladimir where you gain bonus stats from other stats. It was converted stats. That means that Soraka would have armor/MR taken away from her and replaced with AP when she bought a tank item. That passive was going to be implemented specifically to ensure that defensive items always granted less defensive stats on Soraka and gave some insignificant amount of AP instead.

Riot really, really did not want Soraka to be able to live long in teamfights if the enemy willed it. Thank god when they were testing that conversion passive Soraka players ended up constantly dying and feeding, and Riot decided they didn't need to cripple her any further than they already had.

That is suprising..I have to try it out for myself again.. I always thought it was not worth it for some reason :P I will do some maths and look into it first. EDIT: bloodthirster soraka wins 87.50% of her games..I dont think statistics is a wholesome look :p

StoryDuck25 votes

Heh, that Bloodthirster stat is funny. The high win rate for warmogs was talked about in another thread (don't have link) and the reason it is so high is because it's an item that gets built when players are ahead and dominating a game.

Kouga3 votes

From the pure standpoint of Soraka's heal cost, Warmogs/stacking health is ineffective since it draws on %Max Health. This is what most people scream about when they say "I rage when I see Soraka building health." However this fails to acknowledge a basic fact. Say a Soraka with 2000 health casts her heal five times. She is now at 50% health, or 1000 hp. A Soraka with a Warmogs has 3000, and with the same number of heals is at 1500 hp instead. Thus, with the same number of heals, she is still harder to kill with 'mogs. Although I would probably go for resistances first and then 'mogs late game, its effective nonetheless. Not to mention that when Soraka is strong, she is always a target, so she needs to avoid getting blown up

Sire Hippington3 votes

the main point is that warmongs grants a huge healthregen if you don't take damage, and paying health for your own skill is not classified as takeing damage, so it alows her to sustain alot of her healcosts.

AMYS GRAVE6 votes

It is actually a counter intuitive item but bloodthirster does sort of situationally work on her. It makes your AA do damage, and gives you tons of HP back for more heals. It works only if you can play as a super safe back lane.

People think that warmogs hurts because of her HP costs, but if you had 1000 HP without warmogs and you heal 3 times you are down to 700 HP. with warmogs you have 1800 HP and 3 heals takes you down to 1260. Your heal costs more sure, but you still have 560 more HP than you would have had and you get the regen. The cost difference is 240HP which is ~22 seconds of using its passive provided that you are dodging enemy damage. The total HP cost of three heals is regened in ~1 min. The passive is also very very good for full team sustain during sieges. Situation: you are having a hard time landing your starcalls and need the HP regen + some degree of tankiness.

Remember to try these inside of her normal build, not instead of. You still NEED AP and sightstone and gold item and such. These odd items work best as individual aberrations to her "normal" build but only under very specific conditions. Just remember why items are purchased and you can fit them in occasionally.

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

The thing is, she has such a slow AA animation that it really isn't useful to build unless you build BT AND Runaan's or something with AS. But then she has 2 items that detract from her AP that she needs.

I saw DoubleFroggen build it in an LCS match. That proves it's OP and the only proper way to build <insert champion here>.

RisenDarkKnight3 votes

Warmorgs is actually good because sorakas base hp regen is (one of) the lowest in the game. Warmogs gives her a ton of hp regen (at least 4x more regen than without) since it scales with max hp not base regen. It's the best item by far for her it aram, and it's not the best in 5s, but I would definitely recomend it if the enemy team has an ap kog maw, a mid varus, a fed jayce, or an ap ezreal.

Reynard the ƒox3 votes

Mana potions only have a 38% win rate.

Sire Hippington6 votes

cause it only takes items in the endscreen into accord, and if you end the game with a manapotion in your inventory, it probably didn't went that well...

junglerboy163 votes

That's because most of the time, a Soraka with a BT is either a surf or someone so fed on gold that they can afford crazy items, which means they are already in a position to crush the match they're in.

Dedrius4 votes

The sample size on some of those items (warmongs, BT, Mejais) is so small that those stats can't be taken as good evidence of the item on that champion.

BastionKross8 votes

That's most likely because just about the only time you'd want to build a item 3083 on a Soraka is when you're ahead anyway. Statistics like that can easily be, and often are, skewed.

For example, if I play Darius and buy a item 3089 and then win 75 out of 100 games (most likely from being so far ahead the deathcap is more of a taunt, or just having my team carry me) then deathcap Darius now has a 75% winrate.

Does that mean deathcap is secretly OP on Darius? No, it simply means that Darius just happens to have that item in his inventory when he won, not that it necessarily helped him to win. Correlation does not equal causation.

Ariel the Cruel5 votes

Yes. Indecently, Oxygen is toxic [only relevant in high pressure]. And both components of table salt can kill you in relatively small amounts.

Rinky Dinky5 votes

That is only because games in which that item are purchased are usually stomps in the first place.

That controversy was already dismissed in another thread. Warmogs is ass on Soraka compared to other items.

Kinda like how Homeguards has a trash win-rate, but the item is undeniably good at what it does.

Sire Hippington4 votes

be carefull with such statistics, it does not tell wether it was rushed or not. I use Warmongs as luxority item on sora, usually like 4th or 5th item, so abviously usually can afford it in the games that already go well for me, so the question is, does sora win because she builts Warmongs, or does she built warmongs because she's already winning and thus has the gold to afford ot after finishing her core? Warmongs has that high winrate, but only was picked up in 28games for that statistic, so not really reliable data.
