League of Landslides - matchmaking or mismatchmaking?

Been playing a lot of ranked lately and just can't wrap my head around the current state of the game. Seems like every game I am in is just one landslide after another. I either lose without any way of putting up a fight or win so hard it's boring.

The only viable reasons for this that I see are:

  • new jungle makes the ahead team impossible to beat due to the new buffs
  • matchmaking system has no logic whatsoever Or
  • majority of people aren't playing ranked right now due to preseason, so player pool is significantly small and forces the match maker to match a hodge podge of players together

Anyone else seen this trend?

Its a mix of the things you listed. Matchmaking system for league is based off of how many times you win vs lose. Which in my opinion is a dumb way to measure skill in a team based game. Especially now that we can see when where and what objectives you took and get/were killed.

The new jungle is brutal and now that dragon is a snowball mechanic instead of an ani-snowballing comeback mechanic jungler's race for dominance and are rarely challenged once they assert pressure on their enemy's jungle. Though this should change (hopefully) over the course of season 5. Jungle monsters need to give more xp, Trailblazer, like poacher's needs to give more gold when smiting camps, the nerfs to skirmishers was good and one for stalkers' is on the way and that should help balance the power between junglers a bit more.

Players are playing ranked to get a feel for the new map and a feel for the competition for what might be out there for season 5. A lot of more competitive players leave ranked during preseason as they don't see the importance of playing in the off season. So the pools are in fact a bit dry at the moment. Two of the three should be cleared over the next few months.

This is how alot of games go simply because people think games are unwinnable when they are

They quit rather than fight

this is also not a new trend

Thats your experience im not playing ranked anymore till season 5 but in normals games are pretty close unless i play with lvl 29 friend then its a complete stomp. I dont think is the new jungle. But it might be because im in normals.

Riot has never actually done anything about snowballing, either because they don't actually care or are too stupid to figure out the source of the problem (Hint: It's their item design).

I've always played jungle as a secondary support. I've never seen jungle as anything else. I always try and let laners get kills when I gank and always buy wards for top and mid.

But all that aside, I just have absolutely no fun playing jungle now. And the problem is, if I try to play other roles and our jungler is bad, then the game is a garenteed loss (and yes I didn't misspell garenteed).

The last 8 games I've played have been determined with who gets the first dragon. They need to make the 1st dragon buff be the 4th dragon buff or something. It is just way way way too much of a snowball early.

I've tried to give the new jungle a chance and I just have completely burnt myself out on it. The majority of my friends who played before this jungle change have also quit due to it. They have been asking me for weeks to come to dota 2 and it looks like its really my only choice now.

Game is just not fun at all with the current state of the jungle. I haven't been in a single game this week where at minute 20 the scores were within 10 kills of each other. One landslide after another, and whether you're winning or losing in a landslide the game just isn't fun at all.

One final bump:

Over the past 3 days every single game I have been in, the team who secures first dragon wins the game except for one game, and that was a 4v5. (The 4 team secured the first dragon, but because it was 4v5 the 5 team won)

The game is just no fun at all and I see no future with it if it continues down this path. There is just no way possible to secure a win if your team is behind.

Going to agree with Drogmyre here, Jungle is Support 2.0 now. And just like support if your lane/team gets going you sure can wreck people. However if you are on the other side of that you will be pretty helpless.

so since posting this I've played 2 ranked games.

I played jungler in both.

in the first game, their jungler made one small mistake by being away from his blue when I was near his, so I stole it. from this moment on the game was a landslide.

the 2nd game I played, I got invaded heavy by their jungler and mid, my mid didn't follow and I died, they took my blue and from this point on the game was a landslide.

in both cases, once you're down in the jungle, it is completely impossible to catch back up. The only way to catch back up is for everyone to buy about 2 wards and ward the map like crazy. Because once a team establishes the smallest bit of control in the opposing jungle the game is just done.

i mained jungle last season and had a blast. these new jungle changes are just completely horrible and not very fun in my humble opinion. I realize they won't be removed and that there are some tweaks coming, but man they are being extremely slow in coming.
