Unpopular Opinion: It is now more enjoyable to watch league than actually play it.

I took a long break about midway through Season 7 after they gutted ivern and didn't return until about August of this year.

When I came back, even as a veteran of the game since season 3, it was literally like learning a new game.

Every new champion, and many reworked champions, had tons of mobility and all kinds of annoying things that they could do to you.

The runes were confusing, and I quickly ended up just putting champion.gg on favorites to figure out what was useful.

The jungle, which was my main position last season, has just not been fun at all. It feels like I am never on an even level as the rest of the game.

There isn't a game that goes by where there isn't some champion on the other team which makes myself and my friends just groan just to see them picked.

I realize why riot is going this route - it definitely is a lot more fun to watch this type of gameplay. Interesting builds with rune pages and high mobility champions with strange combos make for fun watching. But it just isn't fun anymore. There aren't enough bans available to ban every champ that makes you cringe.

And then I hear that riot is announcing another new champion coming out in the preseason - aka another permaban champion until Riot generates enough revenue from the initial skin sales.

I get it - why riot is doing this. But it is just disheartening to see the game in the current state.

In before get gud

I find it hard to watch/listen to more than 1 game.. makes me want to fall asleep even if I'm doing something else.

Unpopular Opinion

Maybe on Reddit, but not on boards.

Moody P11/18/2018, 2:58:30 AM16 votes

it's not enjoyable to watch, though

How is it an unpopular opinion here?

Everyone here post to say how the game is either bad or how they don't loose because of their mistake but because god and riot created feeders/toxic people that doesn't get reported to punish their incredible skill. Everyone play this game and seem to hate it, then they say that riot do everything for LCS and money but they don't watch it anyway.

Nothing unpopular about that.

And on a personnal level, I really enjoy both.

Obviously, you would also rather watch a car crash happen than be in the cars yourself

Isn't an unpopular opinion, they made the game like that so the eastern teams could do something in the worlds (3-0 finals lul) and people actually enjoy to watch it. Flashy abilities, fast games and a high amout of damage are more entertaining to see for people (i enjoy more watching a good macro/strategical game over a 50-50 kills clown fiesta, my unpopular opinion). The only way to enjoy the game is because you are playing only assassins or high mobility champs like the new ones that riot made ( Irelia and she even count as an assasssin since she can oneshoot too LOL)

Actually both are boring and not fun. i use league as a tool to make me fall asleep faster

Warlord Rhinark11/19/2018, 7:58:53 AM2 votes

You're wrong.

Neither watching it, nor playing it, is fun.

Morticianjohn11/18/2018, 4:33:41 AM2 votes

I watch more than I play now

Tolinar11/18/2018, 6:30:02 AM2 votes

I find it's enjoyable to play when I:

  • Decide on some crazy strategy
  • Disregard all guides or information already present on the internet
  • Disregard the whining of my team
  • Just go for it!
  • And win! Or lose.

Doing this has yielded what I call my "rare gems" meta: Support Cass and Yorick are my babies.

AR URF11/18/2018, 6:35:53 AM2 votes

I don't like watching it because of how long games are. I just skip to the highlights of matches or watch videos for guides.

Trollmanship11/18/2018, 8:01:37 AM2 votes

Not an unpopular opinion. Riot believes e$ports are more important than actual gameplay.

Hügö11/18/2018, 9:42:17 AM2 votes

Even watchhing it is no fun.

Unpopular Opinion: Can boards stop overusing the phrase "Unpopular Opinion" if you don't understand what it means?

Unpopular means UNPOPULAR, you know? So stop using it as Clickbait for your boring cry threads.

I mean what is unpopular on OP's opinion?? Boards is talking exactly about this since weeks.

Thilmer11/18/2018, 2:50:14 PM1 votes

For me is extremely boring to watch.

I have never understood the whole e-sport thing.

funnyplayer2711/18/2018, 4:37:50 PM1 votes

I think so tbh, because Riot is giving every champ some flashy ability, just watch the new irelia /camille and so many of the newer champs jump around like crazy which looks nice "because the pros are so good they can jump all over the place and do those flashy plays wow". I think all those mobility options nearly every champion has nowadays make the game less fun, at least for me.

The runes were confusing, and I quickly ended up just putting champion.gg on favorites to figure out what was useful.

Not for me, for the most part they're all straightforward and customizable to the point where you're able to change one or two things depending on who you're up against. General understanding of everything is needed though, so anyone newer to league wouldn't have a very good idea of what to pick.

Even before the runes were out everyone was theorycrafting and already knew which keystones would go on who.

Dukues11/18/2018, 6:11:27 PM1 votes

100% have felt that way all season. Enjoyed watching LCS (well certain parts) and Worlds. But haven't really enjoyed playing solo queue or the game in general all season. Especially alone. With friends its still ok. Alone the game is fucking miserable.

Best Trist Utah11/18/2018, 7:09:59 PM1 votes

I gotta say, I agree. especially now that the pool of champions has grown so huge and all the reworks have occurred. It becomes quite the chore to keep up to date on how each champion works down to its core and knowing when to fight and when to stay back. seems like whenever you get about half the champs down, a new patch or champion is released changing things. It's become a game where you either have to invest mountains of time in research / understanding to just not get clobbered. instead of a game where you could pick it up, play a 30-60 minute game and then go back to life.

SH Azykan11/18/2018, 7:24:20 PM1 votes

this is actually my favorite meta since season 5 pre-juggernaut update....I feel like I can actually play whatever I want to and make it work as long as I put thought into why it should.

OneMustFall11/18/2018, 7:50:01 PM1 votes

Definitely disagree with that. LCS is insanely boring to watch now. Some games end after one fight, that's not entertaining to watch no matter how much the announcers scream at the top of their lungs.

ÈvilMorty11/18/2018, 7:58:04 PM1 votes

eh not really, its 30-40min of walking around and farming with 2 seconds of teamfighting

mack911211/18/2018, 8:37:37 PM1 votes

I enjoy both

Aseraan11/18/2018, 10:19:31 PM1 votes

I only watch leage vids when im watching highlights on yt or MGCRPUF content. Used to watch lcs whit my best friend but it became helly boring in the last few years for us so we barely watched any.

option paralysis11/18/2018, 7:57:42 AM1 votes

same, I wasn't home for 2-3 days and I didn't play or watch league... then I came home and I just couldn't press that play button, because I know I'll play against something retarded like irelia/camille/jax etc.. and I just watched some shows and actually had fun instead of getting frustrated with the game.

Fnatic ComeShot11/18/2018, 2:11:05 PM1 votes

I find it more enjoyable not to play it at all. Everytime I log ranked there must be at least one int troller in mine or enemy team which totally ruins all fun.
