I actually think Edge of Night is fine

I play a champ that gets countered by it pretty hard but Id 100 times rather play against it than against Maw. It gives less MR than a Negatron and at least you can play around or outplay the active.

Meanwhile Maw gives at least 540 effective HP against magic damage at level 9-10 + another ~570 when the shield pops, without any skill to it. You get over 1k hp from it just like that. EoN gives 420 (lul) EHP + a situational spell shield in that situation. A fking Banshees would only give around 1400 effective HP without any other useful stats. It costs less but the 70 AD you can get from Maw alone are worth almost 2500 gold. So... yeah.

I feel like the cooldown could be reverted or changed to "30 if it blocks something, 45-60 if it blocks nothing or the channel gets interrupted", but other than that..
