Riot please let us edit rune pages in champ select.

I don't see any reason not too other than you might lose a little money, but we should be able to edit our runes according to match ups, and people would still buy rune pages to designate to a class of champions or champions.

At most you should be able to swap 9 runes, and not the quintessences.

But you already may take so much time changing masteries. Do we have the time?

How would they lose money? In my opinion very little downside.

People wouldn't buy rune pages with rp because they can just change the ones they have.

Makes sense lol I didn't think it through.

I honestly don't even see how they would lose any money from this.

From people buying rune pages.

If anything, it would give them the opportunity to make a window in champ select that brings you to the rune page shop to buy more. Most people might actually buy more if this was a thing as opposed to just having 1 size fit all rune pages like they do now.

PDE5 Inhib2 votes

That literally makes no sense. Why would anyone buy rune pages if they could just switch the runes they have at the champ selection screen?

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Because they are as lazy as I am.

Quite frankly, I'd probably have bought rune pages just so I could just select a pre-made set during champion select.

because it takes too long unless you are doing minor edits, which honestly shouldn't require you to bet multiple pages for to begin with.

The reason why they don't do that is simple. You have countless combinations of matchups that ussually need diferent runes setups. 286243776 to be exact n ( number of all champions ) r ( number of selected champions )

n!/(n-r)!(r!) 130!/(130-5)!(5!) 286243776 unique combinations

So in theory you could have one page and just switch runes. Riot would loose money on runepages.

Rune pages are capped at 20 and I wonder if the number of rune combinations isn't smaller.

Then there would be no reason to spend RP buying rune pages.

They wont because then people wont buy rune pages. They let us do it with mastery pages because they are free.

Shenjougahara1 votes

If they were that worried about losing money on rune page purchases (which they really shouldn't be, we only really need one mastery page, but we still use all 20), why couldn't they just make the runes themselves purchasable through RP. I imagine that would more than make up for any losses on page sales. I for one would love to not have to spend almost as much IP as a fully priced champion just to fill out the quints on some of my pages. And besides, since the pages themselves are purchasable with IP, they clearly aren't that worried about losing too much money on them.

Being able to edit runes in champ select can only increase the quality of the game. And it might actually get some people to start caring about them a little more. As it stands now, even with 20, you just kind of have to hope for the best when making them. Unless you're dedicating them all to one role, and only play a few champs in that role, you won't have even close to the number of pages needed to cover all the possibilities. And so a lot of players just make two super generic pages and leave it at that. We can easily fix that.

Only problem with making runes purchasable with RP is that it brings in the 'pay to win' argument where people would complain that "the only reason you won lane was because you spent $10 on those runes". Not that it's really a valid argument, but nonetheless I don't think Riot would want to get into that mess.

There's a grey area there for sure, but it's just one possible solution, and probably not the best. However Riot wants to shift around their sources of income is up to them, but I believe rune page editing in pre-game would be a great improvement to the game itself.

They could at least make it so that if we have 20 rune pages, then we're allowed to edit them. That way, there'd be no loss for them as we couldn't get by with buying any fewer rune pages. And then those of us that have IP out our ears would be able to edit our rune pages so that we could use the best ones for the current matchup. So kinda no one loses although those with fewer rune pages might feel like they're at a little bit more of a disadvantage.

I made a thread like this a couple months back and got told the same thing by everyone: Riot's will never do this because people will no longer need to buy rune pages

GigaPube1 votes

wow you fully committed yourself in saying "i dont see ANY reason not to other than x". you also said "people would STILL BUY rune pages". gee whillikers you did a lot of research on this, im so glad it has over 26 upvotes and its on the front page with all the other ACTUAL good threads....

Riot is still a company, and doing this isn't really a big priority since they are trying to do so many things at once right now. Probably not gonna change :/
