How is Mord busted?

Ben SwoIo··3 votes·3,318 views

Don't jump on me for this, I'm genuinely curious. I've only played him twice, but both times I felt the match was fair. I went vs Irelia and a Nasus. I didn't steam roll either one, or anyone on their team. I got kills and got killed pretty evenly. Maybe I need to learn his kit better, but it seems pretty straight forward. Is he really busted or are people just crying for nothing?

People love to run heads first into Juggernauts, I think of Morde as a kinda AP Darius. Like everyone cried about Darius, when he was released and even now and then today, they do about Morde, not understanding that they just need to play around their weakness. Both lack a reliant gapcloser (aka a Dash, Blink or what every new Champ today has) and only have a dodgeable Pull, which you should always respect. Both get countered by CC, Kiting, Mobility and the overall Burst in the Game. Also both can't handle Poke that well in Lane (Mordes selfhealing is laughable early on and Darius needs to hit his Q).

tldr: Just like some people cry about dying to busted Darius, when he hits his entire Kit and has five Stacks on you, they also complain about mean, mean Mordekaiser, who can kill you if you stand AFK near him.

Is that basically why people have been bitching about Tahm? I mean, he's basically a Darius as well, except his late game is oddly worse.

Well, yes and no. Tahms 'gapcloser', aka his slow, is on a much shorter CD, has higher Range and deals more Damage (or comparing to Darius, Damage at all). I rather play vs Darius and Morde, since when their Pull is on CD, I have ways to outplay them, or dodge their Spells.

It's not an unjust argument though. Yeah, sure, there are ways around Darius, Morde, etc., but they lock entire portions of the roster out of the game, because the amount of skill it takes to fight them with certain champions is absurd for the overall low reward. Darius can drive off certain champions merely be existing near the minion wave.

And Riot's policy is supposed to be that the answer to certain champions should never be "play x champion" but that is generally what must be done when it comes to juggernauts.

I don't mind them being powerful. What I mind is that champions who simply have no answer to their kits don't have enough power to fight back directly. If they can't outplay and they get outstatted, what's left?

The issue is that this isnt a realistic stance and they know it. Its entirely fake and performative on their part, and it started with excusing controversial releases like Zed/Riven, who were a certain class but had/have little/none the weaknesses to it, or possibly no exploitable weaknesses at all over a certain margin of skill.

Counterpicking is still a pivotal part for 99% of the playerbase, on every role and every lane, even if Riot has done a lot of work to blurry class advantages and weaknesses (but only for some classes and some champions, specially hypermobile popular ones). But its not a rentable or convenient truth for Riot, since a ton of people dont want to face their counterpicks and the implications of picking their fave into a hero that counters them.

Its simple a core aspect of the MOBA genre that cant be removed, at least not completly.

SuperLuigiLXIV1 votes

It's a shit aspect. And if Riot had the will and the imagination, they COULD do something about it.

But even in the case that nothing can be done about it, that still doesn't make the argument unjust.

Why is he broken?

Because removes your most important member from every single team fight.

Even if he's 0/6/2 he can just build tank'ish... and R your fed carry out of every single fight. He's about damn impossible to dive as well. Just like every Riot rework.

Also it just sucks ass trying to be a normal support if Mord singles you out every fight. Like we needed any more reason not to play Brand/Velkos/Lux/Zrya/ect.

And get's melted in 2 seconds, since Tank Stats don't matter, as long as Lethality and Magic Pen stay the way they are. Oh and don't get me started on LDRs and Void Staffs %Pen.

Lethality is countered by tank stats.... not the other way around...

Also even 2 seconds is a long damn time, though in reality it's more like 6.

I forgot to include Black Cleaver, which almost every Lethality User builds too. Your Armor is not worth a shit, if they feel like it, they go LDR too.

I just played against a Fizz and constantly got dove by him and Pantheon. I died A LOT. I don't think he's busted so far. I'm still waiting for my rofl stomp match that hasn't happened yet.

If your ADC is on his small ult range... your team deserves to lose. Its like letting a Malz slowly walk to your ADC and fully combo them while you and your team watch.

Even there if he is behind and builds pure tank, he will melt regardless.

It is his passive, shreding through all magic resist and health that is the problem. Right now, you can not counter Mordekaiser by building health/magic resist (cause he will just deal more damage to you) neither by building full damage cause of his sustainability. He also has that damned 2 items powerspike that if you aren't noticably ahead you can not kill him, especially if he ults you 1v1, no matter what you play. When you play Mordekaiser, you will not feel like you are doing significants amounts of damage with your kit but when you play against him you will see that he does way too much damage with little counterplay in lane. I suggest removing the max health magic damage on his passive (or changing it to current health magic damage) because right now, you just can not counter his damage neither in lane nor in fights. However, in lane he has weaknesses and that is playing ranged poke champions and even then sticking under your tower like a pu$$y and yeah you can win mordekaiser.

Hes a low elo pubstomp champion. Its easy to deal with him move in arcs not in straight lines, build 1 MR item. Build a QSS if it makes sense to.

Too tanky, does too much damage for how tanky he is, has a point and click "I will win this fight no matter what" card and his passive in general is just unfair.

That's how he's busted.

I don't know about tanky. I got shredded in the matches I've played him so far. It was also difficult to live during ganks. I honestly felt fair and didn't feel like I was a walking killing machine.

Śhunpo1 votes

He ults you and suddenly he's unkillable. That's Mord in a nutshell. The champ lacks any significant counterplay outside of "just buy QSS".

ANearMiss1 votes

Idk I play him and I do pretty damn good if I do say so myself, but indestructible fish and sadness tornado counter him completely. (Kench and yasuo)

I've been seeing one or two in nearly every match, and I just first-timed him on my main (after a brief session in Practice Tool) and clobbered my opponent while handily outperforming my teammates (NB: I am trash). I'm pretty sure I used a bad keystone for him, too (Aftershock). I think he's strong.

He has a lot of reach for a melee champion, and he thrives on AoE situations while also being able to force a 1v1 when necessary. This makes him really hard to stop even as a team if he gets a lead. He seems to scale well, too.

That said, he has trouble with champs that also revolve around reach and sustain, like Karma. Her E helps her avoid his skillshots, she can poke with Q, and RW is a good tool for surviving his ult. I tried it yesterday on another smurf and, while I gained absolutely no lead on him, he couldn't do anything, either. He must've been really bored by the time he abandoned the lane and started roaming. However, he then proceeded to get pretty fed off of the rest of my team. He ended 14/7 but didn't get enough of an early lead to pull off a win. I can't go into much more detail than that because Match History is broken for some matches and refuses to render anything but the Statistics tab.

straightforward kit but braindead and too much % dmg

He had to high stats when he was released, but now that it settled down, honestly he gets dumpstered by range and people who can out duel him, especially if they have mobility. According to op.gg Mordekaisers three biggest counters are, Vayne, Jax and Fiora, these three champs likely counter him do to how as long as they know what they are doing Mordekaiser should never be able to land his E onto them, all Three have a dash/leap (while admittedly Jax's is more situational) and when the fight starts Fiora and Jax will out duel him and Vayne can just kite him into oblivion as Mordekaiser has no reliable way to get onto her.

Other than that from my experience he is highly susceptible to poke and his E is a very slow ability. The way I see to counter him is to just repect the grab and then punish him for using it, especially they wave clear with it, thats a 20 second window where he cannot engage onto you and cant deal any damage unless you walk into his Q range. Another mistake I think a lot of people make is engaging onto him with a champ that can't out duel him (hence why I think he should clobber an Assassin like Talon who can only really all in him)
