How Do You Mitigate Having a Weak Link in Your Team?

Other than the obvious "be better," does anybody know how to create an advantage when MMR sets you up with a potato sitting on a keyboard?

Yes, I realize there are games where I've been that potato. That's not the question here.

When you have a teammate who isn't making the best decision, is it possible to play to mitigate their poor performance? Or is this a "gg, next" situation? Traditionally I've never been a firm believer in giving up on a game, since I've had a LOT of really nice turnarounds. But sometimes, there's this one player...

Anyway. Thoughts?

Yeah take over their lane. As a jungler if I see someone struggling and my help won't offer any solution, then I have to make up for them and take their lane. Minions and everything.

If you have a weak link on your team, they have probably fed. Help your strongest player get fed to balance the game.

It's hard to do in soloq, but if you can also make sure your whole team focuses the fed player, you can open windows to catch up... shut down gold plus 30 seconds without having to deal with that player can do wonders.

Finally, if your team has a weak link, there is a good chance the other team has on too. If you can exploit that you can win.

Let me give you an analogy that I got from Danyon Togia:

I'll give you a situation and see which one seems easier:

2 fat guys one is sat on the fence, and one standing infront of it . To get one of them over to the other side, is it easier to:

  1. Push the fatty off the fence over the otherside.

OR

  1. Pickup the other fat guy, haul him onto the fence, and then push him over?

Basically the premise is this, in most games there will usually be someone that is doing either 'OK' or 'Really good' on your team, at LEAST one person. This person is your win condition if everyone else SUCKS, so camp them and help them HARD.

You make up the deficit on your team by being a MUCH better player, taking global objectives to spoon feed them gold without them having to do ANYTHING.

You also completely ignore their lane untill you can pick off their laner, for example they just had a fight, your laner died and Zed is on 30% health with his ult gone, exhaust/ignite gone and no flash.
