Zyra's Update Missed the Mark, rant

Riot has acknowledged that they likely took on too much with the mage update, and as a result many champions were changed slightly, but didn't quite get the attention they deserved. I'm going to focus on Zyra's changes.

One of Zyra's stated goals was to make her more interactive with her plants and increase the "plantmancer" fantasy. She now has significantly more seeds, but it feels like this is just to make up for her old underwhelming passive being gone. Zyra is now an extremely uninteractive champion who I sometimes feel dirty for playing as. Getting the most damage in the game while never actually engaging a single enemy champion and getting kills I can't see off screen is not good gameplay. This all is largely due to the increased number of plants, and her ability to activate more plants at once. She can burst squishies, but also wear down tanks from a very safe distance. Despite having more plants in all this, I don't feel like I am making more choices in plant spawning, just making MORE plants than before in more places.

Zyra needed more types of plants, and a greater distinction in their shape, function, and purpose. For example if seeds planted on walls had greater range than ones planted in the ground, or if the plants that zyra was closest too were significantly stronger than the ones farthest from her. Plant interactivity is also non existant. If she could, for example, have an alternate cast on her E that caused plants to become enraged, refresh their HP, or even just blow up it would add much great feel of "plantmancy" as you are actually commanding and fighting through the plants. Even the ability to sprout a different plant by stepping on it would add a lot of thought about escape routes besides "get a rylais and it will sort itself out."

I understand this was likely beyond the scope of the update, I just wanted to vent a bit on the subject and put my thoughts out there.

I just wish she was a little more viable mid.
