Why dosn't this combo work

the cloak does magic damage to anyone near you and the staff slows anyone you damage with a magic attack so why dont the combo work?

Rylai's effect is proc'ed off of damaging "spells and abilities" while the damage from Sunfire cape is just passive effect.

That's not actually a bad idea. Personally, I always take Rylai's with Mundo, and Liandry if I need more damage. But I sure do run into a lot of people who whine like the end of the world cause I'm not building like they would. I don't know what's so hard to understand about how dangerous a Mundo you can't run away from is. Not to menion, magic pen is the 2nd most powerful stat on Mundo after health if you build Liandry's

The thing is that Mundo's scaling on AP is horrendous. Those two items are a ton of gold going into AP that barely benefit you. I've tried to make it work, but it just makes you too squishy to go where you please.

If you're buying them for the AP, then yes, it's a stupid idea. If you're buying them for the health, magic pen, and passives, then it's a smart idea. Also, squishy? Are you buying these items first? Yeah, it's also a bad idea if you buy them before sunfire cape and spirit visage.
