Would a "Swap Health Percentage" ultimate be allowable in League?

Mal'Ganis

One of Mal'ganis' ultimates in HotS is a really nasty one called Dark Conversion.

Dark Conversion Channel on an enemy Hero for 0.75 seconds, then swap Health percentages with the target over 3 seconds.

You use this when you're low on health, and can quickly turn the tables on an opponent who thinks they can kill you. However, if you're interrupted, the effect fails and you'll die pretty quickly. Also, your opponent could still kill you before the swap really takes effect.

I imagine this would be extremely cheapass in League, but if put on the right Champion and adjusted appropriately (i.e. very long level 1 cooldown, can't bring your opponent below X% health, etc.), could it be allowable?

It's not even the better one of his ultimates in HOTS.

I think it would be just as bad in league as it is in hots. Getting low enough to have it be effective and then having to complete a short range channel would get you killed pretty much 100% of the time before the ult could even work.

iirc, hots doesn't snowball nearly as hard as league

Already being ahead and then getting to swap health percentages at will would be kinda ridiculous in league

That's kinda the same as old Irelia E, basically "you win, I press this and now I win. But if I win I win" and is the reason she got reworked

Nooooo, this would be busted as hell. It's not even a matter of balancing the champion with it, it's a matter of how much it basically shits on thing like armor, resistances, shielding, and everything else. Plus, with the amount of executes in the game, it'd become a matter of "protect the guy channeling, then execute his target." It's pretty much a guaranteed way to get rid of any opponent in a team fight for next to no effort.

The thing is, you have to be badly damaged for it to be truly strong. It's a "Death or Glory" move, in that you either score big with it or die trying.

I do see what you're getting at with it ignoring defenses, though.

you'd have to have a cap. or something, maybe they can stay alive for set duration if killed soon after the swap. like old Yorick ult.

the closest thing to this, is like ierlia's old long stun. in terms of taking advantage of enemy being low.

Google the DOTA 2 hero Terrorblade, his ultimate is exactly the same thing. The problem with this is that you create a champion with is impossible to 1v1 at any point in the game (unless this ability is its ultimate, in which case it becomes impossible to 1v1 post 6). Even a 2v1 would be iffy because said champion could focus one target and swap health with the other one. I always found terrorblade such a pain in the ass to deal with in Dota and the last thing I would want is something like that here. We already gotta deal with leblanc and irelia.

It'd be possible, but it'd need much more requirements then the examples of it in other games most likely. I think the one Mal'Ganis has is pretty close considering:

  1. You have gotta be low for it to be worth it
  2. You have to channel it briefly before it works, so it can be interrupted
  3. It doesnt all happen instantly, so enemies can still use a lot of burst to finish you off before it works

The base kit of the champion that has it would likely need to be pretty meh though since that's a pretty big, team fight changing mechanic. Not to treat HotS like its a perfect game, cause its not, but Mal'Ganis is a pretty good example of how bland the base kit has to be to have that kind of ultimate.

It'd probably be something like this:

Swap Health Active: Channel for 1 second, then curse an enemy for 4 seconds. After the curse time is over, swap health percentages with the cursed enemy. Cost: 100 mana Cool Down: 160/125/90 seconds Range: 500

High cool down to help prevent it snowballing the champion too much, but gets reduced a lot for late game since its power goes down significantly the more champions there are around them.
