LP gains and losses should be calculated differently.
The current system
At the moment, LP gains and losses are calculated using a hidden value called MMR, which I will explain in bullet points for easy reading.
- MMR goes up when you win a game
- MMR goes down when you lose a game
- The amount of MMR you gain / lose depends on the MMR difference between you and your opponents.
- MMR gains / losses do not depend on your individual performance in that game.
Problems with this system
The current system means that the amount of LP you gain and lose depends solely the outcome of the match.
- You can be playing against opponents of a vastly greater skill level than your rank if you consistently fail promos but win games.
- You gain or lose the same LP as every member on your team. If you went 30/0/30 and carried your team to victory, you get the same LP as the person who went 0/30/0.
Proposal
Using a system similar to how the grade is calculated in the champion mastery system, give bonus LP and reduction in LP losses to people who played well individually that specific game.
For example, if you lose a game but go 10/2/8, you might only lose 5lp, whereas someone who went 0/8/0 would lose up to 20lp.
- People are still encouraged to play as a team, they want to win.
- Trolling is discouraged, not only do you lose more lp, provided your team do well they won't lose much LP.
- Smurfs and skilled players will climb faster, while unskilled and boosted players will fall faster.
TL;DNR: Make LP gain / loss scale with how well you did in that game.
