Yasuo Rework

Yasuo is one of my favourite champions in the league, every now and then I go back to playing him, but he's not the champion I think he should be. You either snowball into ridiculous levels of power, and destroy everyone, or become slightly useless later on. In my opinion his passive and utility bar system are to blame, as well as his ultimate. The flow system is a bit of a gimmick with nothing in his kit really requiring it at all, it's just a free shield. His Crit passive is just a free stat with no consequence.

I can't boast 300 odd Yasuo games like some people can, but I have a decent understanding of his kit, and I think the decisions that I have made here are well informed.

With that said, lets get on to the rework. The Yasuo I play plays a little more like an assassin than a fighter, and this is probably reflected in my changes.

Passive

  • Intent

Yasuo's critical strike chance is doubled, but the damage dealt by his critical strikes is reduced by 10% (25% on Steel Tempest).

Yasuo's critical strike chance changes based on his flow.

This Critical strike chance will be a bonus for most of the time, however when Yasuo has minimal flow, the value should decrease his critical strike chance by an amount. This will mean a skilled Yasuo must manage their flow to get the most out of their abilities, engaging on an empty flow bar will have you dealing lesser damage.

  • Resolve

*This part of Yasuo's passive I left as it is.

The only change that I think needs to be made is that Yasuo's shield should activate when hit by a turret.

  • Steel Tempest

Yasuo's Q ability is fine how it is, it might possibly need some damage buffs after the removal of the free crit chance, but with the removal of crit damage reduction it has already been indirectly buffed

  • Wind Wall

Yasuo creates a gust of wind that travels forward to form a wall 400 units away from himself. The wall drifts forward over (1.5?) seconds, blocking all enemy projectiles with the exception of tower hits.

Changes to Yasuo's wind wall are quite small and could go unoticed until you get in game. I think the speed the wall moves should be increased, but the time it takes to dissipate should be reduced. I believe this would change it's use dramatically. Instead of being used in teamfights to block all damage, it is used as a sort of parry, to block somethiing like an ezreal ultimate. You would require good timing to block something. Of course as these are straight nerfs to the wall, the cooldown should come down significantly.

  • Last Breath

Yasuo blinks to the nearest visible Airborne enemy champion to the cursor. Upon arriving, he suspends all airborne units within a 400-radius of his target in the air for 1 second.

Yasuo gains increased flow capacity for every champion hit for 15 seconds, and instantly generates maximum Flow.

This is important, most of this is the same, but Yasuo will gain a larger shield for using his ultimate on a larger group of people. This not only makes him more likely to survive, his attacks would have massive Critical strike chance, because of the 'Intent' section of his passive

Once he lands, Yasuo deals heavy physical damage to all nearby units ~~and gains 50% penetration to bonus armor for 15 seconds (this affects armor from items, buffs, runes and masteries). ~~

Last Breath needs a damage buff, I would suggest similar scaling to Lee Sin's ultimate. However, there is no reason why Yasuo should be able to destroy tanks and squishies alike, the bonus armour penetration is unecessary.

Casting Last Breath will reset the chain/Gathering Storm procs on Steel Tempest.

This is a slight buff, Yasuo could charge up his Q twice, cast last breath and then be ready to cast a whirlwind upon landing

Obviously these ideas aren't perfect, and I'd appreciate some 'constructive' feedback.

Thanks if you got this far.

Yasuo doesn't need a rework. He's a little weak in the current meta, but he's not unviable. Every Yasuo "rework" I see removes his crit chance passive. It's his only steroid and what makes him able to do any decent damage at all. Removing the consistency of this passive (or the passive itself in many other so called "reworks") would hurt him significantly, even if his Q got a damage buff. His Q is his only consistent damaging ability, and its cooldown scales from attack speed. Changing his crit passive would make it so that he only has ONE real way to dish out a good amount of damage: spamming Q. His Q doesn't have a reset, so you have to rely on whenever it's up. Without attack speed items, this effectively makes him absolutely useless. Nobody likes champions that rely on 1 spell to dish out all their damage; it's poor design and just not fun for either side (Note: Cassiopeia). Keeping his crit chance passive keeps him consistent and makes most of his damage come from his auto attacks, which is much better for consistent DPS and gameplay clarity. Also, fun fact: Last Breath has 150% Bonus AD scaling. As with any bonus stat scaling, it's very weak early game but very strong later in the game when he has items.

My rework isn't in order to nerf him, it's to make him fun to play and to play against. Having permanent double crit chance is just a toxic mechanic. Many Yasuo's already use Q as their most reliable form of damage, it's actually a buff to his early game with the new passive. Yeah I probably worded that wrong, I was after some more base damage rather than scaling, at level 6 It feels incredibly anti climactic.

As a Yasuo player this offends me, because landing a really slow skill-shot you have to charge to chain into your ult is such an easy thing to do.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. I don't consider it easy, that's why I'd like more damage on it, what's your opinion?

I think it's fine as is. It's one of the hardest ults in the game to use, but that is why you get the 50% armor pen.

Absolutely disagree. Get's to hit ANY airborne units from a rather comfortable distance. It's not single target, and there are so many ways to end up airborne in the game.

Erm. You know you're responding to a post from 2015, right?

Guessing you just pumped "Yasuo" in the search bar, got a hardon when you saw someone arguing for him, and decided to unload a nice steamy wad of hatred without any real thought of the context?

LOL I can tell you I didnt notice that lol :) to be fair I saw it on the top of the boards, and to be fair I have been making this argument since 2015 lol

I think you misspelled easiest..... it doesnt have an H in it.

On a less trolly note, his ult is legitimately a click, not even point and click, YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO TARGET SOMEONE. You wait until you or an ally sends them airborn (or does a simple displacement) and you press R. The hardest part about the ult is "do I one shot them after the cc yet or not"

He is extremely fun to play. He also has some of the most fun matchups in the game on either side. The double crit chance is not toxic, and I can't stand when people say it is. His DPS is in line with many other melee carries, and he has a lot more counterplay than most of them too.

Celeste Benal3 votes

Nope. Because simply hitting Yasuo and procing his shield would completely remove his bonus to crit chance until he has run around like a chicken with its head cut off for the required 30 seconds.

TomA3X1 votes

He still gets a crit chance increase before the shield is proccable, also the crit chance remains whilst the shield is up.

His free crit chance isn't really free, keep in mind, his crits do 10% less damage forever. and no, item 3031 will not make that useless, he permanently lost 10% damage from his crits (omg so much)

10% less damage on attacks (including one of his abilities) that deal 150% damage (I could be off on that number) which is INCREASED EVEN MORE when you get IE.

lets see....... doubling crit chance, making two crit items give you 100% means you are dealing 140-190% damage 100% of the time, vs another champ that is dealing 150-200% damage 50% of the time. Add to that the fact that attack speed also doubles as CDR for his Q, and his ult gives more that a last whisper's worth of armor penetration so he doesnt need to build that item (can he? Yes, does he NEED to? No) Yasuo gets so many free stats from his kit that its ridiculous. It turns a 6k gold combination of stats into 8k+ without taking up any extra item slots, effectively meaning Yasuo can pile on MORE STATS than other champions AFTER he gets a bunch of free stats that other champions dont have.

Even with the 10% damage reduction on crits, he is dealing 40-90% more damage guaranteed 2 items sooner than he should be.

Is he ultra strong right now? No, is his kit unbalanced and toxic as hell, Yes.

10% less damage for crits....... what a joke.

You didn't say while his shield is up he would have bonus crit chance; you said he had bonus crit chance BASED ON HIS FLOW. Even with his shield up, that means he has a maximum of 1.5 seconds of actual crit chance increases before it automatically dissipates and gives him NEGATIVE crit chance (...Why the crap did you add this? Why did you remove most of a melee carries DPS boost, and then make it so the main counterplay to his shield ALSO lowers his DPS?).

Otherwise, you made windwall more annoying. Sure, it only being up 1.5 seconds does make it weaker PURE NUMBERS wise, but with cooldown buffs that is going to make it extremely annoying to play against (On live he has 18 second cooldown on W, or 14 after it dissipates. He doesn't build cdr, so you know if he just used his wall you have 10+ seconds to freely retaliate. With cooldown buffs (let's say you change it to be the same uptime ratio, so at max rank 6.75 second cooldown) you make it up almost constantly up for any important spells. Sure, he lost straight time up on W, but he gets to spam it much more MEANING HE CAN BLOCK MOST ENGAGE SPELLS FOREVER.

LOL NO PLEASE. Only thing yasuo needs is a ult damage buff, thing does like no dmg(i know its not a finisher)

Sorry to burst your bubble (or pop your passive in yasuo's case) but this rework is simply just like the other suggested ones. All involve changing his crit chance passive, which is the thing that makes him a fun lategame scaling champ. Just for a sec stop and consider. Yasuo is one of the healthiest champions in the game at the moment. His ult isn't a massive nuke, and allows him to deal pretty consistent damage. His e allows for good mobility but cant be spammed indefinitely due to its timer. His q allows very consistent damage on him, and his ranged tornado is one of the best parts of his kit, requiring skill to use right. I love yasuo as a champion, and i think that he is both fun to play as and against (most fun I've ever had was yasuo vs yasuo). His w makes a very interesting mechanic to play against and with, as you have to place it in the right place and at the right time for effectiveness. I would be extremely disappointed if yasuo was reworked, because he is honestly one of the most overrated (people claim he is massively op, usually adc mains who cant simply walk around his windwall) and he is also underrated (people dont realize how good he can be if used right). So my point is your idea is ok... and by ok i mean it wouldn't work at all even if riot were to make an entirely new champion before yasuo even existed.... i dont think this would pass for an original champ idea... thats how i view rework suggestions: would the riot team make this champion like this before they came out?. And personally i dont think this would be successful. At all.
