How League of Legends Will End

This will be a long posts that is supposed to be thought-provoking in order to change the community for the better, If you've nothing to offer besides what I will be describing please leave this forum unmolested.

I've been playing this game for about a year and a half on several accounts. I've regrettably spent upwards of $2000 on this game in that course of time. When I spent the money I did it because I thought I was enjoying the game, thus why not support something that is giving me such happiness, excitement, and joy? What I am bringing to attention today has nothing to do with micro transactions, skin purchases, boosts etc., but the community. My highest achieved rank in this game has ironically been what I've been placed at on three different accounts, silver two, after placements I would going to long cycles of losing/winning streaks never surpassing silver two. This process led me to create new accounts, being forced to start over, learn new champions/roles and play without runes. I did get better, I was playing games where the CS for 10 minutes was double that of when I started playing. The mechanics of my opponents were challenging and diverse but at the same time more fun to play against, learn from, and use myself. However, as I continued to play on these new accounts, normal games, as well as playing ranked on my old accounts, over the course of this year and a half, League of legends shifted from being fun to others correlating losing lane/games with the worth of another person. If the person wasn't worth their salt, meaning they couldn't beat their lane opponent, they needed to uninstall the game, refund their skin/champion, cease to exist or were simply mentally challenged. If the person being attacked is to defend themselves they'll be met with retribution from others, and the original aggressor, very rarely receiving help from one of their own teammates in the regard. Nevertheless if the person were to reach out to the other team for MENTAL support they would be met with the ironic term of "salty", greeted with extended ridicule or simply egged further on hopes of further "tilting" this person and their team in hopes of winning, be it ranked or norms, all the while making the person who's play brought out the demons of others feel even worse about themselves.

The counter argument to this, the mute button/command/turning all chat off, isn't fitting because what this does is put the victim at fault. This person no longer reads the negativity the other players have to say about them but they are also removed from human contact, they are punished. Many will say report these players, but we all know those reports are rarely heard and/or acted upon whether it be by technological limitations, being unable to look through the player in question's past chat history from many games prior, or simply keeping a paying customer happy, unbanned/unmuted. It is extremely easy to say things through keyboard and by no means do I say people have a right to live life unoffended-because you should be throughout your life or you stand for nothing, but I say of this as we are playing A GAME. The reason most of us play league of legends is to unwind from the day or simply have time for fun, time we can be excited. When what has been described in the paragraph above happens its usually followed into the next game, and the next. I'm not one to discuss the matchmaking system, the balance of champions/items, or how common open mids are due to the atmosphere of the former I'm simply here to say if we continue to blame the victims, the "feeders", if we continue to ridicule those who we know nothing of their outside world behind a keyboard so that we get some sadistic pleasure from their pain for causing us to possibly lose A GAME or use it against the enemy team to win A GAME, like bacteria evolving to combat antibiotics, the League of legends community will lose its diversity, continue to breed in its environment of the toxicity and eat itself.

So here I am, do I have a perfect solution? No. Do we know how to work toward solving the problem? Yes. Can we work together with those in charge to purge the community for the greater good, or am I simply a harbinger of the end times?Shyvana

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

This game isn't going anywhere, the community's salt is what will preserve it.

Thank you. I've seen far too much negativity myself, and it strikes me as very odd that we seem able to ignore the fact that we are playing with other humans. Keeping that in mind has also helped me from getting salty or going on tilt due to my allies' actions. I do hope we can all grow in this area.

I 100% agree with you.

Honestly.

People need to realize that there is another person behind the computer screen.

And I am in no way innocent of this.

I have had my share of shaming and name-calling, but in the heat-of-the-moment, what are you going to do? I think the main problem behind all this 'saltiness', if you will, is that we're all assuming that the jerks and trolls and assholes and feeders and name-callers and the racist people do this all the time. I think all of us, at the heart, are somewhat good people. We all log into League of Legends, hoping for a good, sportsmanlike, fun, intense game, only to have 'that one asshole ruin it for all of us'. But I truly, honestly, believe, that no one, no one, logs onto League, thinking, "Man, today I'm going to be an asshole to everyone and cost my entire team the game just because I wanted mid, and I'll throw in some racial slurs while I'm at it."

All of us, ALL OF US, are guilty of this at one point or another, to some degree. Maybe we had a bad day, maybe that one ks pissed us off more than it should have, maybe whatever. But at the end of the day, no matter how bad our day was, we shouldn't ruin someone else's day. I feel like that's why there's so much of this 'saltiness' going around. Not one person or group of people are responsible. It's a collective thing. We all chip in somehow. And it all piles up. So I guess what I'm trying to say, is, in order to solve this, in order to fix this, we have to all be better human beings. It's really that simple. If you had a bad day and want to scream and yell and cuss, do what I do. Do it on a custom game. You, and four other bots against another team of bots. It feels much better.

Just my two cents.

Player perception is a big part of player attitude. Negativity doesn't get rid of negativity. Anger doesn't stop ragers. Complaining doesn't satisfy complainers.

Sportsmanship and positivism lead to more of the same.

Reporting players because they had a lot of deaths in a game, even just saying you are going to report them, just adds more salt to salt.

I think that in the end RIOT will eventually find that simply having a system that lets you report players isn't enough to make a community a positive place because the act of reporting is, itself, a negative act. In order for the community to become a better place the players have to step up and become better.

But let's be real here, we're playing a game where players play champions that run around a map killing other champions. Let's all be positive. LoL.

And I know that I've often been guilty of the opposite extreme. Whenever I get mad or on tilt, I shut up and don't talk to anyone. And sometimes being silent can be just as bad as salty. It's strange because it's never complained about, but silence is a selfish action that loses games as well.

I have to say I've played a lot of games online, and I've never seen a gaming community more toxic than this one. Without punishing feeders and letting 4v5's end early, Riot's just as much at fault for it's own game's toxicity as we are. [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

I respectfully disagree.
