A weird trick that helped me win more games...

Or lose less games, but same thing.

I muted the music in game, and ever since I've been playing better.

I don't understand why, but I noticed I've been playing better! Could some science person explain why that might be?

Riot music team hates him!

Yeah music distracts people. Video game music is supposed to be designed to either help immerse or help the player concentrate. Unfortunately for games like League, it's hard for music to really immerse someone since there aren't tense boss battles for exciting music and ambient music in general is not great.

First time I ever played the game I turned it off completely.

Because it's bad? :o (Not that I'm saying it is)

Focus.

That's pretty much it.

Also, sound-effects are dead giveaways of whats going on, and music interferes with that. But that's all included in focus.

Because you can hear footsteps approaching, especially from behind you. You also need to determine enemy and ally's positions by the sound of gunfires and grenades.

I play with my own music and all of the ability sfx on high. I also play with eye candy off if you want to try that, it's less "noise".
