Poke supports with poke ADCs, engage supports with burst ADCs, peel/sustain supports with late game ADC who may have a weaker laning phase.
OFC, this is a rule of thumb. Ultimately, you're better off playing a support that you can play well but has less synergy, and your ADC is not the only thing that factors in, because there are 3 other people that your pick needs to work with.
Ezreal really likes high poke supports, such as
and especially
.
Immobile ADCs such as Ashe and Jhin like supports who can peel for them
and "I won't peel but you won't die either" aka
, as getting caught is their biggest weakness.
Burst ADCs like Corki or Graves like supports who can lock people down, such as
.
You can either choose your support for the inherent synergy, increasing what the ADC does best, such as MF+Sona lane (great poke, great bullying, great trading, very strong ult synergy), or choose your support to make up for the marksman's most blatant weakness, such as the classic Ashe+Janna (amazing peel for immobile, squishy Ashe).
