We need more clear and definite definitions for a champion's power level.

Lately (ok since forever) a lot of the posts in gameplay and balance are about particular champions and items needing buffs or nerfs. Now I don't have anything against that since we strive to achieve balance in all things Akali .

However there's so much talk about OP, gutted, trash, viable, overloaded etc. I feel as if there should be a tier- system introduced in which any champion or item can be placed according to its relative power/position in League.

Now I'm probably not the most qualified or persuasive but after 2 years of playing the game I think I can come up with something logical and yet practical as well so here goes:

Tier 1) Broken: This is where the champion/item has broken all limits of balance or raw power, often due to an error, bug or over site of the balance team when a patch or update is introduced. Thankfully Riot usually solves these issues in no time at all so they don't last too long. Any time a champion/item does an insane amount of dog with little or no skill, lvl, or strategy involved in a way that is not counter able in any manner it should fall into the "Broken" category since nothing can be done in game to solve/prevent it.

Examples Include: item 3071 before nerfs in season 2 or 3 I think it was Warwick in preason new jungle with the new jungle items Feral Flare before it was nerfed and the item 3512 before it was recently disabled.

Tier 2) Overpowered/ Overloaded:

This is the more common tier that is complained about and yet the hardest to describe. That is why I use 2 terms here where, Overpowered= A champion/item has to much sheer strength/mobility and other stats as compared to the norm. Think Leblanc before her silence was removed Overloaded= A champion/item has/gives to much material or potential in the form of its abilities or actives. Think Gnar and Kalista or any other champion with two passives and such.

Any time a champion is played way more than others for the sole fact that they are more likely to win/ have more sustain/mobility or power than others even with no item advantage. Again this is a hard tier to define but I believe champions like LeeSin ,Fizz , and Zed fit in here quite well since they have the damage mobility and overall strength with no major weaknesses to counteract their sheer innate power and potential.

Tier 3) Viable: Most champions "should" fall into this category if the balance team is doing its job. These champion/items may stand out now and then but they aren't likely to win all the time or easily secure kills as compared to overpowered champs. These guys have simpler/ less loaded kits with specific strengths that are well countered by specific weaknesses lets think Velkoz for example: -He has awesome poke and range with average mobility but is weakened by his reliance on skill shots, mana and cool down limitations, and his extreme squishiness. I could go on listing who else fits this category but it would take a relatively long time and I'm not Zilean.

Tier 4) Gutted: These unfortunates share the fact that they were viable at one time but one particular change/nerf to them or an item has lessened their potential for victory/success and therefore require more skill to play successfully just because of the weakness that was made to them. I believe Ahri without her charm and dog removal may fall into this category or Talon since his silence removal and Cassiopeia since that fiasco of a rework. Not to say that these champions are trash or need massive buffs but they simply have lost a lot of their potential and therefore only the true dedicated players of them find success or joy in playing them.

Tier 5) Trash/Forgotten: Finally we have the lowest of the low. These champion/items are either left in the dust to rot or simply can't compete with the viable or all the overpowered champions currently in the meta. These are the guys who, when you see them in game say "Holy shit people still play him/her/it? ... when was the last time I saw one?". Whether its a result of nerfs or simply other champions doing their job better these individuals again, may find the occasional success but they have to work harder to get it than they should. Urgot and Yorick are more forgotten by riot than weak whereas Poppy Galio Taric need reworks/ updates in order to have an even chance in game.

Sorry for the long rant but I figured this list of rankings may help give some order and clarity to the balance arguments that frequent the discussion boards. Remember this is all my opinion. You don't need to like it or agree with it but I do encourage others to add to these points or debate them. After all criticism is important to make things better (cough riot listen to pleas for lee sin nerfs, cough).

To properly balance the game we need the holy triangle, or whatever it was called, back.

So roles counter each other by default, it's easier to balance and just way more dynamic than simply going around the meta and even balance around it.

The holy triangle was also why even though there was meta, there were a few metas available and many sub optimals. Unlike today where it's only like 1 strategy.

True it seems of late Riot is just buffing/ nerfing in a reactive manner which is needed but they don't seem to be actively seeking out ways for particular styles of champs to counter each other again. Since every champion nowadays has multiple roles and builds (which are all good things in and of themselves) it makes it twice as hard to maintain the simple holy triangle of balance between classes
